Overview hTC smartphone HD2

Choosing a smartphone was not easy for me. Doubts arose first of all when choosing a platform - it was quite obvious that Windows was losing ground, and Android was still damp. I did not consider the iPhone for purely subjective reasons - I do not have a soul for Apple products.

Switching between shooting modes is quick and intuitive. In addition to the usual photo and video, you can select the panoramic shooting mode, photo contact, "lightweight" video for MMS-messages, as well as photography with reference to geographic coordinates (GPS photo).

Filming I also tested in a wide variety of modes: daytime, night under artificial lighting, on the move. Shooting quality, color rendition, noise level and autofocus work do not give rise to any complaints; in my subjective opinion, according to these parameters, the video filmed surpasses videos, captured by smartphones of a similar class. I also liked the fact that when shooting at night, the LED flash automatically starts to work as a backlight, while it gives a powerful stream of white diffused light.

You can view the footage, as well as watch images, videos and films either from a standard "explorer" or using the "Album" function, where media files are presented in the form of graphic thumbnails that can be scrolled vertically.

By touching the icons on the right side of the screen, you can go directly from the album to the photo or video mode.

Listen to music you can use the included in windows firmware Media Player, but it is much more convenient to use HTC Sence's "Music" function for this. By touching the treble clef icon at the bottom of the desktop, we launch an interface in which sound files are structured by artist, album and genre; you can also create playlists or play files directly.

The default settings make it possible to listen to music in excellent quality; there is an equalizer for more fine tuning.

The application for watching videos from YouTube is minimalistic and convenient, when connected via Wi-Fi at a speed of 1 Mbps, videos are played without slowdowns:

Browser

Opera Mobile 9.7 is installed as the default browser; also included in the standard firmware mobile version Internet Explorer... Despite the quite nice IE interface, I somehow didn't think to use it, especially since I liked the mobile version of Opera right away.

The interface is very minimalistic and user-friendly, controls in the form of large icons are located at the bottom of the screen. The creators of "Opera" really took care of the convenience of the user, thinking over every little thing. The default settings are selected optimally, allowing you to immediately switch to comfortable surfing: the page loads very quickly and automatically fits into the screen in width; after a couple of seconds, it automatically switches to full screen mode. To call up the control icons, just touch the screen. You can open up to three tabs at the same time, switching between them is implemented through the corresponding control in the center of the panel. Multi-touch supported; In addition, I liked the option that allows you to instantly zoom the page by double-tapping the screen - reading articles and viewing photos on the Internet is very convenient. You can also send a link directly from the browser via SMS, MMS or e-mail.

GPS navigation

The basic package includes a navigation version navitel programs 3.5.0.224, developed specifically for HTC, as well as a complete set of maps of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. On this moment Navitel is the undisputed leader among domestic navigators, better choice I wouldn't do it myself. Drawing maps, detailing, address search and routing - all this was implemented very competently, and, in addition, there is a feeling that the Navitel team intends to further actively develop its product. Well, the power of the processor and the advantages of a wide and bright screen make using the navigation functions a real pleasure.

Energy consumption

The characteristics declared by the manufacturer - 380 minutes of talk time or 490 hours of standby - I did not check with a stopwatch in my hand. However, I note that I have been using a smartphone for a year and the power of the included lithium ion battery with a capacity of 1230 mAh, I consistently have enough for a full day of active use: 10-15 calls, watching YouTube (5-10 min), surfing the internet, reading books, scrolling through the news in an RSS reader. Although, with a particularly high traffic of calls or prolonged viewing of videos, the battery does not last until the evening and there is a desire to change it to a more powerful one.

Time required for full charge battery, - about 2.5 hours.

IN lineup HTC had smartphones with the names "Legend" (HTC Legend) and "Hero" (HTC Hero), but another model turned out to be truly legendary - HTC HD2. In a short article, I want to tell you about this unusual device, released back in 2009, but still used and supported by various communities. Why was HTC HD2 so good and why do some people still use this "unit"?

The model was announced in October 2009, then there was still no such clear classification of devices by type (at least in Russia), so they called it a communicator. HD2 was released at a turning point for the company: on the one hand, Microsoft began to show serious excitement with its OS Windows Mobile, on the other hand, a few months earlier, HTC introduced Hero on the then-unknown Android platform. The company immediately appreciated its potential, having already managed to create a user-friendly Sense interface for Android 1.5, completely crude in terms of usability.

Just between 2009 and 2010, there was an unrest within Microsoft regarding a mobile OS, at least that's how it looked from the outside. In fact, MS has already been developing new windows Phone, and the outdated Windows Mobile got the name WP (rather for show and easier perception of the future new OS). Based on one of latest versions that old Windows Mobile 6.5 and HTC HD2 worked. However, over the many years of working with MS and its system, HTC has learned to hide most of the OS flaws, and the Sense shell used in HD2 became the crown alternative interfaces for Windows Mobile - it completely changed appearance systems and most of its elements. Therefore, not everyone could immediately recognize a Windows Mobile-based communicator in HTC HD2.

In any case, some crutches were visible, and if at the beginning of sales the operating system on which HTC HD2 was running did not yet cause a lot of reproaches and moans from users, then the older the device got, the more obvious a simple fact became apparent - the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system was for HTC HD2 is old. Time has shown this. Now Windows Mobile has become history, and the HTC HD2 communicator is still supported by various communities, and modern systems are ported to it. On the Internet, you can easily find installation guides for HD2 OS Windows Phone 7, for example, or Android OS. Moreover, for HTC HD2 there are different assemblies of the world's most popular custom android version - MIUI. you can read exactly how to install firmware with MIUI on HD2.

It might seem that in the case of such an old device, all these installations of new firmware and porting of other systems is simple self-indulgence, because if everything worked well, then the manufacturers themselves would release such updates. Alas, it’s not like that. As an example, we can take some MIUI assembly for HTC HD2, many of them work stably on the device and allow you to use it like any other Android smartphone with average specifications.

My HTC HD2 with MIUI on board is quite suitable for use as a phone, it works about daylight hours on a single charge, calls, takes photos and does everything else. And this is a device that is already four years old, that is, all the terms for its relevance seem to have passed. Now the flagships are updated annually, and it's hard to imagine that it turns out that a phone released four years ago remains relevant and working on modern systems... At the same time, manufacturers are now focusing on cores, RAM, graphics, and more, but the HTC HD2 used a single-core processor with a frequency of 1 GHz on the Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon platform and about 500 MB of RAM. And on this "hardware" new OS can work without brakes.

At one time, HTC HD2 was chosen because of several excellent qualities - a high-quality metal case, a display with high resolution and good viewing angles and other features, as well as performance. The operating time of about one or one and a half days was already a luxury for communicators, and HTC HD2 was no exception. But an even more important criterion for buying HTC HD2 back then, at the time of the launch of this model, was its exclusivity. Now such a concept is almost absent in the world of smartphones, but earlier companies sometimes managed to produce devices that other manufacturers could not offer or did not want to offer analogues. This is exactly what HTC HD2 was - this communicator was the most powerful and coolest, if we talk simple language, and simply had no competitors.

Today HTC HD2 looks tiny in the background top smartphones and even middle class models in all respects, especially in terms of size. But when it came out, it seemed like just a huge shovel and was one of the largest devices on the market, not counting the PDA. Time passes, and the understanding of the "big smartphone" is changing. Who knows, maybe in a couple of years devices like Lenovo K900 and Sony Xperia Will the Z Ultra be perceived as the norm and seem ordinary in size?

Over the years of operation, my HTC HD2 has gone through a variety of events, but in general the communicator's case is still strong, although it still has numerous scratches, chips and other damages.

Oddly enough, if you believe the information from Yandex.Market, HTC HD2 can still be found on sale for about 8,000-11,000 rubles. Naturally, buying this model just for the sake of getting new smartphone, it makes no sense, but if you collect interesting phones and suddenly forgot about the existence of the HTC HD2, you should fill this gap. This is one of the few truly legendary communicators of its time and simply one of the most interesting devices ever released on the Windows Mobile operating system. Again, if you do not touch on the topic of pocket computers.

What Windows Mobile smartphones do you remember the most?

We feared that the HTC HD2 is unlikely to be good in terms of practicality. But in fact, all fears were in vain.

Screen

The HTC HD2 screen is hidden behind glass. Usually, transparent plastic is used for these purposes, which quickly becomes unusable and forces users to buy in bulk protective films... Future owners of HTC HD2 are relieved of this need: its safety glass very scratch resistant. Nothing will happen to him, even if you carry the communicator in your pocket with keys, a lighter and other potentially dangerous items.

But, unfortunately, we couldn't get away from the problem with fingerprints - the screen quickly gets smudged. With any other Windows Mobile device, you could use a stylus and minimize fingerprints. But here the screen is capacitive, it does not react to the stylus in any way, it works only from the fingers.

The resolution hasn't changed compared to the Touch HD or MAX 4G - it's still WVGA (800 x 480), but the brightness, contrast and viewing angles are better. Despite the fact that the matrix is \u200b\u200bmade using TFT technology, it is quite comfortable to work with it outdoors on a sunny day. Thanks to the light sensor, in the dark the backlight is automatically set to the minimum level, which is comfortable for reading, and in the sun - to the maximum. Undoubtedly, the screen is one of the main advantages of the HD2. It is pleasant to work with a browser on it, it is convenient to watch movies and photos, it is convenient to read e-books.

Hardware platform and performance

The HD2 is based on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon platform with a QSD8250 processor clocked at 1 GHz. In addition to the fast CPU, the communicator has a record amount of RAM - 448 MB. This is enough for the simultaneous operation of several "heavy" applications. You can open simultaneously Navitel Navigator, a browser with several tabs, mail and a player - nothing will slow down. Which is undoubtedly good news. In general, if brakes appear somewhere, it is the fault of the firmware. So, for example, during testing, we had to face the brakes of the HTC Peep twitter client, which frankly freezes with 100-150 downloaded tweets. Only a reboot helped fix this problem. Presumably, this will be fixed in future firmware updates.

Just like the previous platform from Qualcomm, Snapdragon is a one-piece solution that includes all wireless modules, a graphics chip and a GPS receiver at the same time. The latter, by the way, has not undergone any changes - it's all the same gpsOne.

But the graphics chip promises to take gaming and video performance to new heights. It even claims smooth 720p HD playback. However, due to the lack of a navigation key and the impossibility of reassigning hardware keys, it will not work normally to play games on the HD2.

The platform's built-in graphics accelerator is not yet supported by video players, and you will have to forget about high-quality video. Normal playback of clips in screen resolution (800 x 480) is easy for the communicator. But HD, alas, slows down. Standard test videos literally "flew" when scrolling in CorePlayer. For videos in 640x480, 640x352, and 320x240, we got 234%, 217% and 528%, respectively, during testing. Excellent result - better than any other smartphone or communicator of the current generation.

We also remind you that you can get acquainted with all the features of the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform in the corresponding material.

Wireless interfaces are present in full. Distinctive feature device - the ability to work in Wi-Fi access point mode This feature was implemented in other HTC communicators, even before the company began to release them under its own brand. But, nevertheless, the moment is very pleasant. Almost none of the competitors can offer this functionality.

Interface and preinstalled software

HTC decided to abandon the name TouchFLO, now all devices of this company have the Sense interface. The local Sense is not very similar to the Sense that we saw on Android - in fact, it is a slightly modernized TouchFLO, with better animation, new tabs and other minor improvements. At the same time, HTC replaced all standard Windows Mobile menus with their own, which was only beneficial. In unchanged form from Windows Mobile the communicator got only the lock screen and the Start menu. Replaced the standard calendar, address book, mail and so on. And instead of the usual Internet Explorer Mobile, the latest version of Opera is used as a browser. By default, an alternative browser is used, but you can use the standard one if you wish.

Worth seeing once HTC HD2to remember it forever and recognize it among a dozen other communicators. Huge touch screen the size of 4.3 inches is amazing with its size and image quality. Powerful processor with a frequency of one gigahertz and a high-quality five-megapixel camera complement the advantages of the device. HTC's reputation as a world leader in mobile devices also speaks for itself.

HTC HD2 design

The communicator designers had to follow the shape and size when developing the device design. huge screen... But surprisingly, the developers managed to give HTC HD2 elegant and rather compact look. The elegance of the device is emphasized by the insignificant thickness of the case. The device looks very stylish, there are no protruding elements. Only a little protrudes on the back side of the camera window, which, however, does not spoil the look of the device. Moreover, such a technical solution will only help improve audibility. incoming call, because in this communicator, as well as in most others, the speaker is located on the back of the case.

HTC HD2 specifications

Processor brand "Snapdrago" with a maximum frequency of 1Gigahertz. The large 4.3-inch WVGA touchscreen has a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels. The total memory of the device is one gigabyte. Half of it is allocated for rAM, and half a constant. Communication standards HSPA / WCDMA (900/2100 MHz) and GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz). There is the usual support for such devices for WI-FI and BLUETOOTH communication standards. There is also a five-megapixel camera, which is quite common in mobile devices, with autofocus mode and dual LED flash. An accelerometer and GPS navigation receiver complete the picture.

HTC HD2 features

The ability to make incoming and outgoing calls mobile networks HSPA / WCDMA standard and GSM communication. Using all the functions of the operating room windows systems Mobile 6.5 Professional. Possibility of installing numerous software third-party vendors, created for a common mobile platform from such software giant as Microsoft. Local navigation can be carried out using the built-in GPS sensor. To navigate the Internet there is such a popular browser as Opera Mobile. There is an app for Facebook integration, the ability to share photos via Facebook and Twitter, video support via YouTube, and an HTC Peep app for tweeting.

Output

Communicator HTC HD2 is of great interest to true fans of mobile devices. The world's first capacitive ultra-sensitive screen technology, as well as its huge size and unique design, make it very attractive to a wide range of users.

The trampoline is a great gift for children and adults. Available now. And almost everyone can please themselves and loved ones with such an acquisition. Bring joy to dear people!
