Vertex whose company. Vertex smartphones - only positive impressions. Vertex S104: customer opinion

Good day to all!
While the giants of "smartphone building" are vying with each other to throw top models onto the market, and second-tier manufacturers are trying to keep up with them, some vendors are slowly beginning to master this new direction for themselves - the production of smartphones. We will get acquainted with one such "newbie" today.

According to the rules of good taste (and considering that there were no smartphones under this brand yet), I will briefly tell you about the manufacturer. So, Vertex ™ is a trademark of the Connect company, which until now was known as a manufacturer of various portable devices and accessories for mobile equipment. These are all kinds charging device, wired and wireless headsets, data cables and much more. WITH complete list products can be found on the official website. And this year, or, to be precise, on April 15, the company entered the smartphone market, as announced in a press release.

The debut line, called "Impress", was represented by three models. Namely - "Impress L", "Impress M" and "Impress U". Review of the "older" model - "Impress L" you. My review turned out to be the "middle" model of the line - "Impress M". Let's see what "impression" (and this is how you can translate the word Impress) it makes.

A typical budget smartphone today. Judging by the description, the device does not have any "chips".

Packaging, equipment

The device is packed in a box made of thick cardboard with very high quality printing. Like most manufacturers, the front side of the box contains an image of the device itself, and the bottom - a full description of the characteristics, stickers with serial numbers and IMEI, certification and indication of the real manufacturer and importer. Oh yes, there is also a small hologram "Vertex": everything is "grown-up".

We open the box and look at the package bundle:

In addition to the classic set "device" - "headset" - "data-cable" - "memory" and a modest user manual with a warranty card, the manufacturer carefully attach a replaceable socket of a different color. In my case - the colors of "juicy fuchsia". For smartphone white the set includes a socket in the color "sea breeze". Sounds romantic, just like the car manufacturers' colors.

Appearance

The design of the front side of the case strongly resembles the smartphones of one very famous Korean manufacturer: the shape and size of the "home" key, the "grid" of the speaker ... All this evokes the feeling of "déjà vu".

There are no "proprietary" differences that make the device stand out from others. Although no: the control keys are not backlit and if it were not for the presence of a membrane key "home", then control in the dark would probably be difficult.

The calling speaker (or speakers), unlike many other smartphones, is not under the back cover, but on bottom end and "disguised" as "mesh". The microphone, also located at the bottom of the device, is hidden behind a tiny "hole" between the speakers. One gets the impression of "high-end brand identity": as if microphones are hidden behind the "nets". Cool.
The volume rocker and the lock key are located on the left side of the smartphone and are quite convenient: they are pressed with a slight "click" and fit exactly under the thumb.

In general, the device fits quite comfortably in a medium-sized hand, and if not for back cover, then there would be no questions at all, but more on that below.
The main complaint about the case is the plastic of both the main and replaceable back panels: it is glossy and easily collects fingerprints. At the first moment, there was always a feeling that the device was about to slip out of my hands. In addition, removing the rear panel is a rather non-trivial task: there are no recesses to hook the panel on the case. Very uncomfortable.

Since we are talking about the rear panel, I would like to note that there is nothing here besides the “eye” of the photo / video camera, the “flash” LED and the manufacturer's logo. Although by and large - what else should be here?
I also forgot to mention that the micro-USB connector is located on the bottom (which is convenient), and the headset connector is on the top (which is quite obvious).
The smartphone is assembled neatly. Actually, this is the norm now - to find a device that creaks / backlash, you have to try very hard.

Remove the cover. Here "everything is like everyone else": two slots for SIM-cards (one micro, the other - mini) and a slot for a microSD card. It is unrealistic to get it without removing the battery, so you can not even dream of a "hot" replacement.

SIM slots are simply labeled "SIM 1" and "SIM 2", without specifying 3G support, but this will be discussed again a little later.

Software.

We turn on the device. After an upbeat piano melody, accompanied by the manufacturer's "drawn" logo, the familiar "androidophone" desktop appears on the screen. First of all, let's make sure of the stated version of "Andryusha":

Judging by the second screenshot, it is possible to update the firmware "over the air". Let's wait and see: during testing, nothing "arrived".
A small digression: a visit to the support page for this device pleasantly pleased: there is the current current firmware, drivers, software flasher and instructions for this process. Let's just say - not every manufacturer can get it safely and without hassle.
The biggest surprise was that the device is equipped with a "refined" firmware: any "third-party" software (antiviruses, social network clients, etc.) is absent as a class. Even the G-Mail client is missing. Judge for yourself:

Widgets are also standard:

Due to this we have, despite the presence of only 512 MB of RAM, a sufficiently large amount of free memory, since it is not loaded with unnecessary "garbage".
In general, the whole "localization of the manufacturer" comes down to adding your own wallpapers and ringtones. To say that this is bad - the language does not turn. A lot of people are really annoyed that the vendor pre-installs a bunch of softwarewhich is absolutely unnecessary. Or other preferences: the shell is not the same, the antivirus is not for me ... Okay, if all this "trash" can be uninstalled, but it is often "sewn to death" - only turning it off saves the "father of Russian democracy."
Let's go further ...

Screen

The smartphone has an IPS-matrix with a diagonal of 4.5 inches and a resolution of 854x480 pixels. Such screen parameters give us a density of 218 PPI: there is “graininess”, but it is small enough to focus on this.
The brightness of the screen is sufficient for comfortable work indoors. In the sun, the screen fades quite strongly, even if the brightness is turned "to maximum". The viewing angles are quite adequate:

There is an automatic brightness control. There are no new-fangled technologies like OGS - the classic display of the average budget employee.
The sensor can track up to 5 touches:

The sensitivity is normal: no false positives and “gaps” were noticed during testing.

Camera

The smartphone is traditionally equipped with two cameras: a modest front one with a resolution of 0.3 Megapixels and a main one with 5 Megapixels. Camera settings are standard for MTK chipsets:

There are modes for face detection, panoramic shooting, high dynamic range.
But the quality of the photos itself, let's put it mildly - not very ... Autofocus here is more "for show" - it seems to catch, the focus area frame "turns green", but in the end - almost always "Akella missed ...". Color rendition is also "lame". However, judge for yourself:

After that, I didn't even want to test the front camera. Scrolling through its settings, I was surprised to find that, despite the declared resolution of 0.3 Megapixels, it is possible to set "as much" as 1.3 Megapixels. It is possible that such a resolution is obtained by interpolation ... Well, okay - it will work for Skype.

The maximum video resolution is 1280x720. Here's what happens:

Sound

The main speaker is loud enough. It's almost impossible to miss a call with him - you can hear him very well even in your pocket or bag. There are no overtones or strong distortions.
The speaker is also good - the interlocutor is heard well, distortion is minimal. The volume margin is also enough even for very noisy rooms. The interlocutors did not complain about the sound quality during the conversation ...
The complete headset is traditionally the simplest. I immediately had a question: what size of the head were the designers counting on? The distance from both capsules to the place where the wires were joined was approximately 7-8 centimeters. Here, even putting them on a doll is problematic:

The sound quality is low: the sound is "flat", inexpressive. There is a slight mumbling. To this you can add a low volume level.

Communication capabilities

The device is equipped with the traditional "gentleman's set" of communication means: Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth 4th version. The first pleased me with its clear and stable work: it quickly connected to the router, easily held the signal throughout the apartment and even within 10 meters outside (I live on the first floor). Waffle speed is quite acceptable:

3G support is implemented on both SIM cards. That is why there is no marking of standards near the SIM card slots, as I mentioned earlier. In principle, since the device is equipped with one radio module, then, theoretically, such an opportunity should exist on any "dual-SIM", but most competitors have 3G support limited to one "SIM". Sometimes this is "treated" by custom firmware. Here we see such an option “out of the box” - in some cases it can be a significant advantage of this model.

We see the 3G icon on both SIM cards:

The work of the "Blue Tooth" raises no objections: the device connected with the headset without any problems, transmitted and received files. In general, he worked as he should.

Navigation

Navigation support is limited to GPS only. A cold start takes about 1.5 - 2 minutes. "Hot" - 15-20 seconds. The number of satellites simultaneously "serving" the device ranged from 5 to 8. The accuracy was from 12 to 18 meters. These are quite normal indicators for MTK chipsets, although there are often complaints that MTK is "bad at catching" ...

Performance

As central processing unit here we use MTK6572W. This is an inexpensive "dual-core" based on Cortex A7, made according to the 28nm process technology. The maximum clock speed is 1.2 GHz. Responsible for graphics Mali-400MP, equipped with four GPU cores. There is support for Open-GL, version 2.0 and Open-VG, version 1.1
The processor is not the “freshest” one, but it is quite relevant for a state employee.

Let's see what the synthetic tests show:
Vellamo and AnTuTu

GFX Bench

But with testing for "playability" came a slight "bummer":
1. Epic citadel installed, but categorically did not go further than the splash screen. Stupidly "took off". "Shamanic actions" with uninstall / reinstall did not help.
2. Real Racing 3 it was established normally ... I even managed to make trial "pokatushki", but when I started again, naturally, I "got lost in the wilds" of the choice of tracks, cars and donation. Although you can play - the number of FPS is far from comfortable, but not a "slide show" either, of course.

Battery. Autonomous work.

The device is equipped with a 1500 mAh battery.

This is not much, but if we take into account the relatively modest processor and not the most "fancy" screen, then its capacity is quite consistent with requests. What does the "head of the transport department" in the person of AnTuTu tell us?

In terms of "parrots", this device is far from the leaders ... But in general, taking into account the hardware filling, the battery capacity is quite sufficient.
Let's just say - with daily modest use (4-5 calls per day and half an hour of WEB surfing), the smartphone lasted almost two days. More active use is enough for a full day. Pure listening to music - about 14 hours, watching a video "finished off" the battery in a little more than 3 hours.

Summarizing.

Summarizing all that has been said, we can say that the device was a success. Yes, this is not a fancy gaming smart. He's not the most better screen... But for all that, he has his merits. So:

Positive points:
- "Pure" Android;
- Support for 3G operation with both SIM-cards in the factory firmware

Negative points:
- Marked case;
- Modest, by today's standards, the amount of RAM;
- Very weak camera

Let's just say: I liked the smartphone. If the manufacturer takes into account the negative aspects, then we can get quite good devices for our money. At least, I will follow with interest the new products of this vendor in the future.

Well, in conclusion, I would like to thank the Expert Club and the Connect company for the smartphone provided for testing.

In Russia, the Vertex brand appeared, under which budget smartphones and simple phones are sold.

Based on materials from Vertex and key.ru

Hello! Today I will talk about the Russian smartphone brand Vertex. At first glance, it is one of the many, many typical domestic electronics umbrella brands. In the late 2000s, they appeared like toadstools after the rain, offering a bunch of cheap gadgets from China with their logos. But Vertex can be attributed to them only if you do not dig deep and are guided only by the first impression and stereotypes of the level "Russian brands of smartphones are still the same bottom."

Vertex has a completely different cuisine, different guidelines and a fundamentally different approach to business.

So to speak, to attract attention - the budget protected smartphone Vertex Impress Tor rests in a whole liter of intoxicating foamy drink :)

For a seed - a small but weighty fact: after the crisis of 2014, when the ruble / dollar rate collapsed, all these local brands-toadstools were pulled from the surface of the Earth and went ... under this very surface. Read - dead. Well, or have reduced their activities to such a minimum that it is ridiculous to talk about it now. Texet, Explay, Prestigio, Highscreen and half a dozen other brands have all virtually merged from the market in one form or another. Or, as an option, they show very weak signs of life, read - they are in the stage of agony. Not so long ago, even such an old and well-deserved B-brand as Fly turned out to be at this stage - its activities are now reduced to a minimum.

Whether it is Vertex - today it is the first local Russian smartphone brand in terms of sales. Moreover, it has the sixth place with a market share of around 4%: behind are ZTE, Micromax, DEXP (a local brand of the DNS network, the regiment of which will sell absolutely everything at a humane price tag) and even Lenovo, Sony and HTC.

How Vertex became the first in all respects among local brands and not survives in our difficult market, but very good lives, - I'll tell you below.

The first point I would like to convey is that Vertex is primarily concerned with the product, and not with dubious activities around the brand. This is what I mean. In Russia, there are half-life local brands that organize rock festivals. There are brands that sponsor sports teams. Third brands employ ambassadors from pop, sports or film stars. And they spend some wild sums on all this. Pays for such marketing activities - right, right! - consumer. Some Yermolai Laskov will become the face of the B-brand "X", they will pay Yermolai Laskov a lot, a lot of money, and this very brand will no longer have enough funds to force the Chinese to re-optimize the firmware of smartphones. Or stick a couple of extra gigs of memory in them. Or upgrade the cameras.

What's the bottom line? Raw buggy devices, but they are promoted by football players and singers. Vertex doesn't do that. At Vertex, I repeat, I work on the product. And only to them.

How is it shown? For example, in the strictest quality control in Chinese factories. Actually, Vertex is the first in quality among brands budget smartphones... Vertex has an average scrap rate of less than 2%. Is it a lot or a little? For Russian local brands, 5% of marriage is considered a very good indicator, and most of these brands show 10-15%. It's just that they practically do not monitor the quality in any way ("Well, it's expensive to send employees with whips to China, pay for their travel, accommodation, priestesses of love, food and make them build Chinese!"). But at Vertex they are watching.

The algorithm for creating products and their production is something like this (without small details and particulars):

1. The Chinese office of Vertex receives at least four samples of smartphones from the Chinese factory. They are studied by specialists from the Chinese office of Vertex, a third-party audit company (!) And specialists from the head office of Vertex (located in St. Petersburg). A few figures: in the Chinese office of Vertex, about 30 people are involved in product quality control, with the total staff of the company about 150 people.

2. The Vertex team, based on their research, compiles a list of shortcomings and suggestions for improving smartphones. All of this is sent to a factory in China, which makes adjustments to the models.

3. Updated versions of smartphones are coming to Vertex offices again - see point # 1. If the deficiencies are not corrected (or not fully corrected), there is a return to point # 2. If there are no more comments, then the Chinese factory produces a test batch of Vertex smartphones. This batch is sent to an independent laboratory, which evaluates the quality and reliability of the devices through comprehensive testing. If the lab finds no flaws, the mass production of smartphones starts.

4. The production is constantly 100% controlled by the representatives of Vertex from Russia, which allows to closely monitor the Chinese workers and to anticipate the appearance of defects. Each batch of smartphones is additionally tested for defects by sampling 10% of the total production. Both Vertex specialists and third-party auditors participate in quality testing of this volume.

5. The batch goes to stores if no cases of marriage were detected during random testing.

So it turns out that Vertex is the first in quality among competitors from among local brands. With a marriage less than 2%. Moreover: Vertex is the first not only among local budget smartphone brands - Vertex is also ahead of some A-brands. Not only the Chinese, but also, for example, the Japanese.

We figured out the quality, and it's time to move on to the second important feature of Vertex - attention to the exterior of smartphones. Yes, Vertex is the first in design among budget smartphone brands. Vertex's position on appearance devices is that budget smartphones, of course, cannot look the same as the most sophisticated flagships of world brands at a price of 30-50 thousand rubles. At the same time, these very budget smartphones should not be frankly faceless "bars of the most deshman plastic". Roughly speaking, attractive design - it's not just for the rich.

As a result, almost every Vertex smartphone has a certain design feature. For example, Vertex Impress Calypso (beginning of sales in December 2017) became the first smartphone of the B-brand with an 18: 9 screen - the main trend in the smartphone market in 2017-2018. Previously, such screens were found only in smartphones with a price of 20 thousand rubles or more, but here you can get a similar option for 7 thousand rubles. At the same time, the entire body (not just the screen) of Vertex Impress Calypso has an oleophobic coating. This is necessary so that the smartphone is not covered with fingerprints and does not cause disgust because of this, which is often the case in the case of inexpensive models.

Vertex Impress Calypso

In general, the peculiarity of the design of Vertex smartphones is that if you put several models of B-brands on the table next to each other, it will be immediately clear which of the models is Vertex. The brand's devices stand out against the background of the nondescript gray majority - sometimes by the aspect ratio of the screen, sometimes by the materials, sometimes by the quality of the plastic (see the oleophobic coating in the same Vertex Impress Calypso).

Well, the third important feature of the Vertex brand. Vertex is the first in technology and chips. Vertex is the first in technology and chips in the "world" of budget smartphones. That is, devices costing a maximum of 7-10 thousand rubles, no more. In this segment, it is much more difficult to experiment with case materials, cameras, screens, memory, chipsets - developers have very narrow room for maneuver. And it is extremely difficult to offer the market a really interesting product that differs from analogues. However, Vertex is the first local brand to do it regularly. There are simply no pass-through models in his line - all his devices are at least somewhat the first and the most. So to speak, with a trick and a twist. In order not to be unfounded - a few examples.

Vertex Impress Luck - the first fully functional smartphone for 3 400 rubles. There were devices with such prices before, but we were talking about operator models with ridiculous characteristics, which, moreover, through one were locked on the networks of these same operators. Moreover, we are talking about the times (2012-2013) when 3 thousand rubles with a penny was $ 100. And now it's $ 50. Vertex Impress Luck became the best-selling smartphone from the MegaFon retail chain following the results of the New Year's sales in 2017, overtaking all iPhone models and Samsung.

Vertex Impress Luck

Smartphones Vertex Impress Tor (9,000 rubles) and Vertex Impress Grip (12,000 rubles) - the first budget protected smartphones with Qualcomm chipsets (USA). For understanding: these chipsets provide really high-quality navigation, which is especially important for secure smartphones (their audience is tourists, travelers, etc.). Usually, cheap protected smartphones from other brands have MediaTek chipsets (Taiwan), which do not provide the proper navigation quality - continuous glitches, connection losses, errors, etc.

Vertex Impress Grip

Vertex Impress Tor additionally, it is the first budget protected smartphone in a case, which in terms of dimensions and design practically does not differ from the cases of an unprotected smartphone. To put it bluntly, here is the iPhone 8 - and it's a sleek device, but with protection. Here is Vertex Impress Tor too, but for the first time in the budget segment.

Vertex Impress Tor

Vertex Impress Frost - the first budget (6,000 rubles) smartphone with NFC support. Makes contactless payment possible with Android Pay and, for example, viewing the number of trips on transport cards. Earlier smartphones with NFC cost from 10-12 thousand rubles and more.

Vertex Impress Frost

Vertex Impress Play (11,000 rubles) - the first slim smartphone with a large 5,000 mAh battery. Its thickness is 8.9 mm. That is, this long-playing smartphone with a very powerful battery is as comfortable to use as an ordinary average device with a 2,500-3,000 mAh battery. The Vertex Impress Play does not feel thick or heavy, it is only 1-2mm thinner than today's flagship iPhones and Samsungs.

Vertex Impress Play

Vertex Impress Nero - Russia's first budget frameless metal smartphone (6,000 rubles). That is, for the first time in a budget model, two important design and technological trends are combined at once: an 18: 9 screen and metal. Usually smartphones with such price tags are either metal or with an 18: 9 screen.

Vertex Impress Nero

In total, it turns out that Vertex stands on three pillars:

  • Vertex is the first in quality: the tank level is on average 2% versus 10-15% for all budget competitors;
  • Vertex is the first in design: there are no faceless devices in the brand's line-up, all of them somehow stand out against the background of analogues and for their price they look as “tasty” as possible;
  • Vertex is the first in technology and chips in the budget segment: all models of the brand have one or another zest, and there are simply no pass-through devices in the line.

Lack of mobile devicesah, the market is not currently experiencing. Each manufacturer regularly develops new models that replenish the budget and middle segment. A wide range can be seen in the premium class. But if expensive gadgets are not affordable for all buyers, then inexpensive ones are in high demand. Vertex telephones are just such. Customer reviews about them are not always positive. In fairness, we note that users find many flaws in the products of the Russian brand. But what no one can argue with is that all phones have an optimal balance between quality and price. Is there something special about Vertex devices? Does the manufacturer use modern technologies? Let's look at some models as an example.

Company policy

Vertex is a Russian brand. Gadgets are assembled at factories in the Middle Kingdom, and are sold both on the domestic market (in the Russian Federation) and abroad. For example, in stores in Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, you can see the Vertex phone on the window. User reviews indicate that the company relies on the originality of the external design, quite deliberately abandoning the template design. This is what attracts the attention of buyers, since the "filling" in most smartphones corresponds to the entry level, so it cannot surprise the modern user.

IN lineup Vertex can find different devices. The range is quite wide: from the simplest push-button "dialers" to gadgets that may well compete with mid-range smartphones. Frameless models are considered innovative options.

Affordable prices are the indisputable advantage of this company. Even exclusive devices are not overpriced. The manufacturer assures that all devices are manufactured in accordance with modern standards. Quality materials and reliable assembly make the phones quite attractive for the end user.

In addition to mobile devices, the company produces chargers for phones and laptops, portable batteries, stereo headsets, various adapters and more. There are many service centers, so there shouldn't be any problems with repair or warranty.

But as for the latter, there is a certain group of users who have problems during a conversation. You hear in the speaker extraneous sounds (hiss, crackling) making speech illegible. It is impossible to argue that such a problem occurs in every model, therefore, most likely, this is just a factory defect. Also, most users noticed that the font on the screen is displayed too small, and the manufacturer did not provide settings in the menu.

  • Support for work in LTE networks.
  • Acceptable autonomy due to the battery capacity of 3100 mAh.
Cons of Vertex Impress Lux:

In 2016, a staggering number of Vortex models hit the market. Moreover, their characteristics varied within a very narrow framework of the budget segment.

Apparently, the owners of the brand are trying to experiment with various designs of their devices, not paying too much attention to the filling. At the same time, the price of smartphones very often looks overpriced in comparison with competitors, even if we take into account high-quality S-IPS displays.
