Thanks to the abundance of torrent trackers and other free resources, you can find and download almost any multimedia content to your computer. However, there are some exceptions here. What to do, for example, if the broadcast is in streaming mode and where is the guarantee that the online audio transmission, which you would like to have recorded on your PC, will then be posted on the Internet? In such cases, it is better not to rely on chance, but to take and record sound from the computer yourself.

This is no big deal, you don't even need to special programs however, their use would be preferable. Let's first consider how to record sound from a computer using the system itself. Popular Windows versions there is such a useful tool as "Sound Recorder", which allows you to capture an audio stream from both a microphone and a sound card. But before you get down to business, you need to check the availability of an appropriate recording device on your computer.

Recording sound on a computer using Windows

Click right click mouse on the sound icon in the tray and select "Recorders" (or "Sound Devices") from the menu.

Most likely, in the window that opens on the "Recording" tab, you will find only a microphone, which, however, does not mean that other recording devices are not available. Right-click on an empty space in the window and select "Show Disabled Devices" from the menu. If a “Stereo Mixer” or “What U Hear” appears in the list, great, that's what we'll use to capture audio. Right-click on it, select "Enable" in the menu first, and then "Use as default".

After saving the settings, run from the Start menu standard application Sound Recorder or Voice Recorder (in Windows 10).

We suppose there is no need to explain how to use it, all the work here comes down to pressing one button. Audio will be recorded from the speakers, but if you need to record sound to a computer from a microphone, instead of a stereo mixer in the settings of the "Sound" window, you must select a microphone by default. Naturally, the latter must be connected to the computer.

Programs for recording sound from a microphone and an audio card

The above method is simple and convenient, but, alas, it is not suitable for everyone. The point is that the Stereo Mixer device may either not be implemented at the driver level, or it may be blocked by the sound card manufacturer. The sound from the audio card, however, can still be recorded, but for this you have to use third party programs... There are many such programs, both paid and free. One of them is Audacity Is a simple yet powerful program for recording sound and editing digital audio.

The program can record sound from an external and built-in microphone, mixer and Line In channel. On some models of audio cards, it is possible to capture streaming Internet radio broadcasts, that is, the application can be used as a means of recording sound from the Internet to a computer. There are many other features in Audacity as well, but in this case we are interested in sound recording. The procedure is as follows. Launch the program, select Windows WASAPI as the signal source, and the device you need as the sound source, that is, a microphone or an audio card.

Unfortunately, for some reason, the names of the available devices in Audacity are displayed in cracks, but this is not such a problem, in the end, you can make test recordings from both outputs, determine the best one and continue to choose it. To capture the audio stream, press the red round button, to stop - the black square. To save the recorded data to a file, go to the menu File - Export and select the desired format.

To save the recording to MP3, you may need to install the lame_enc.dll library

A good alternative to Audacity is - simple program to record sound from your computer. VoiceRecorder allows you to record sound from an audio card, microphone and audio card / microphone at the same time, the required mode is selected in the drop-down menu. The program supports recording to MP3 and WAV, cutting out silence, choosing the quality of the output file. Sound is captured by pressing the "Record" button, saving - by pressing the "Stop" button.

From paid apps can I recommend the program AudioMaster, especially if you need to record sound on a computer from a microphone. To do this, in the menu, click "Record sound from a microphone", in the window that opens, select, if necessary, a sound recording device and click the "Start new recording" button.

Upon completion of the recording, AudioMaster will offer to edit it - change the voice parameters, increase the volume, add effects, and more. However, you can save the recorded voice without preliminary editing. Click on the save icon located on the toolbar and select the appropriate format in the wizard window.

Recording audio using online services

And in the end, we will consider the third option, namely, how to record sound on a computer through a microphone using special online services. Designed for the widest range of users, they are simple and customizable. Among the most popular services for recording audio from a microphone, one can name OnlineVoiceRecorder, VoiceRecorder, Vocalremover, and Dictaphone.

OnlineVoiceRecorder allows you to record audio from the built-in and external microphone and then save it to an MP3 file. The tool is free, practically devoid of settings, has a simple intuitive clear interface, supports recording preview and trimming.

Similar functionality is offered by another free service... This online voice recorder can capture data from a microphone and save it to a WAV file (without loss of quality).

- a good online voice recorder that allows you to record from a microphone, followed by basic editing and saving in MP3, WAV and OGG formats to choose from. After recording, the audio can be listened to, the effects are available to change the timbre and size of the "room".

Analogue Vocalremover is a free service that allows you to record sound from a microphone. It differs from previous resources in the ability to overlay audio tracks and save the recording on the server. Additionally, the online application supports moving through the record using the mouse, undoing and redoing actions. When saving a recording to a file, only one format is available - MP3.

This, perhaps, is all. These were the main ways of recording sound from speakers and a microphone to a computer, which one is better is up to you. In our opinion, it is more universal to use third-party desktop programs that allow you to record sound even when the mixer is unavailable, as for online services, their capabilities are limited, in addition, for correct operation they may need to enable Flash technology, the use of which is considered unsafe today.

UV SoundRecorder is a miniature free program for recording sound in Russian. The most recent version to date is version 1.4.

The archive with the installation file weighs about 1 megabyte. The program is provided for free use. You can download it by following the link at the end of the article. Installing the program is extremely simple. Unpack the archive, click on the installation file. This window will open in front of you.

Follow the program prompts to complete the installation.

After launching UV SoundRecorder, you will see the following window.

With it, you can record sound from all audio devices on your computer. This can be a microphone, telephone line, speakers, etc. The program supports the ability to simultaneously record sound from different sources and sound cards.

In order to start recording, you must select the device from which the sound will be read. In the picture above, you can see that my computer has a Realtek HD Audio Input recorder represented by a microphone and stereo speakers. On your computer, the list can be much larger - connected telephone lines, and microphones from webcams, etc. Some sound cards support simultaneous recording with different devices some - no. The current volume level is indicated next to each device.

In some versions operating systems(for example, Windows Vista or 7) the following situation occurs - nothing is displayed in the list of available devices, although audio devices are connected to the computer. For this very case, on the main window of the program there is a link "Settings Windows Sound". By clicking on it, you will be taken to the settings window. Disabled devices must be enabled there.

Opposite each device is a volume control. With it, you can adjust the volume of the sounds you want to record. It is very important to correctly adjust this indicator, because if you set it to a low level, the recorded sound may turn out to be too quiet, and at a high level, unwanted noise and interference may occur.

When recording from speakers and a microphone in parallel, try to adjust the sound level to the same values so that the sounds do not drown out each other. We recommend that you conduct trial recording to make sure all settings are correct.

If the recording is carried out simultaneously from several sources, on the main window of the program you can select the type of recording audio tracks... So, all tracks can be recorded in one file or each in a separate file. Writing to separate files can be very useful if you plan to edit them in the future.

Audio files are automatically recorded in WAV format. However, an automatic conversion to mp3 format is available right in the program. To do this, you need to put a check mark next to the "Convert to mp3" item. You can adjust the quality of the converted audio using the slider. Recommended values when recording a call is 32 Kb / sec, while recording music - at least 128 Kb / sec. Note that long audio files can take a long time to convert.

A link to the help window is also available in the upper part of the program window.

Summing up, I would like to say that UV SoundRecorder is a very convenient solution for recording sound. An undoubted advantage is the ability to simultaneously record from multiple sources, which makes this program indispensable for recording video conferences or Skype conversations. Of the advantages of the program, it should be noted that it takes up very little disk space, is available for free use and has the ability to immediately convert recordings to mp3 format. Add to this ease of use and a friendly interface - and the end result is a very useful software for your computer.

The program has no minuses as such. If you really find fault with it, you will notice that developers rarely release updates to the program. But they, in fact, are not so necessary, because with all its functions UV SoundRecorder copes with a bang.

A very simple and elegant application for recording sound on iPhone and iPad, which also allows you to broadcast a signal from your device to a remote control, stereo system, camera, etc. through the headphone jack. There are only six buttons in the application menu: turn on / off the microphone, record, recordlist, play, mute (in case of switching with another device) and an equalizer. Audio recorded in AIFF format can be sent to e-mail, SoundCloud or shared via Wi-Fi.

This tool for recording on Android devices, judging by the reviews, it is famous for better sounding tracks than many others. The application has advanced functionality: it works in three different formats (MP3, OGG, WAV), allows you to set the sampling frequency of 8 kHz, 11 kHz, 22 kHz, 44 kHz or 48 kHz, edit audio files and do others useful settings... RecForge Pro records not only the sound from the microphone, but also calls and games. For widget lovers, there are four options to choose from.

The official iOS application from the well-known Australian company "Røde Microphones", which allows you to record sound on the built-in microphone of a smartphone / tablet or on an external stereo microphone RØDE iXY. The program creates audio files with a resolution of 24-bit, 48 kHz (up to 96 kHz when using an external microphone), allows you to edit them using a nice built-in editor and output them in AIFF, WAVE, CAF, MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless, FLAC, etc. On iPad, you can also view waveforms, edit and manage tracks on a single screen.

5

Unlike Røde, the Japanese company ZOOM Corporation made its product free of charge. The main screen contains all the necessary information - duration, type and format (WAV 44.1 / 48 kHz or AAC 64/128/160 kbps) recordings, volume level, play and rewind buttons. In the "Effect" section there is a built-in equalizer, reverb setting and the ability to carry out elementary mastering. 7

A unique application for Android devices, which contains educational materials and articles on sound engineering, sound design and arrangement, lessons from famous producers, reviews of VST plugins and instruments, DAWs, information about schools, exhibitions and stores sound equipment... The application also works offline, so the texts can be read anywhere, regardless of the presence of the Internet.

A well-known app that turns your iPad into a versatile studio with which you can mix sound and create a variety of musical compositions. The menu contains a huge number of buttons and subsections, and in order not to get confused in them, a built-in help system is provided. To create compositions, you can play the melody or rhythm yourself using virtual keyboard, use your own music collection, or take built-in samples. Each track has many fine settings, and the finished file is output in any of four formats (M4A, WAV, FLAC or MIDI). The only drawback is the high price.

Choice sound recording software, in fact, has little effect - they all do their job well. Exists a large number of so-called sequencers, or digital audio stations- programs that allow you to record and play many audio files at the same time. In addition, they make it possible to cut the file into parts, move, shuffle them together; and also - change the pitch, playback speed, stretch the sound. In general, edit the entry however you like.

In any of these programs, you can record everything, and mount, and mix, and master. Also, they all support work with MIDI - you can sample instruments in them.

Modern music recording software differ, for the most part, only in the interface. The functionality is about the same everywhere. I don't have extensive experience with all the popular digital audio stations, so my review is not an attempt at objective judgment. I'll just tell you how I see them, and in what cases I use them :)

Steinberg cubase

I can't say that the interface is simple. But the sheer amount of customization and functionality creates flexibility. It is worth noting that Steinberg is one of the creators of the VST plug-in format, which is now used by the whole world. Of course, their product perfectly supports any such plugins. Cubase is good not only as an audio editor, but also as MIDI editor... My experience with him comes down to the second case. A variation of this program was supported at one time - Steinberg Nuendo, which had little difference from Cubase.

Cakewalk sonar

The interface of this program is simpler than that of Cubase. Many of my friends work in this particular program, record, edit, sample and mix. Myself I am very pleased with Sonar's MIDI editor, the mode of drawing notes on the staff. This editor contains few functions, but it is simple and reliable. I'm talking specifically about hammering notes into a computer, and not about creating scores for printing. There is almost no musical notation here.

Magix samplitude

The interface is not very complicated, comparable to Sonar. Historically, I use exactly the Sump... The fact is that when I first got into the studio and watched the work of a professional sound engineer, he used this program. That way I got my first free experience and then never switched to any other sequencer. Although, I must admit, Sonar looks a little more convenient from the outside :) Besides, Samplitude has a rather crude implementation of work with the stave. There are a lot of glitches related to displaying and printing notes (Score mode), although other modes work just fine.

Digidesign ProTools

The fundamental difference between this program and others is that Digidesign also creates equipment tailored for its editor. Of course, this affects the quality and usability. ProTools itself has an intuitive interface and convenient sound editing tools.

Apple Logic Pro, Ableton Live

Unfortunately, I myself have not worked with any of these programs, although I have seen many times how others do it. Nevertheless, they are quite popular and one cannot fail to mention them in the review.

Adobe Audition, Fruity Loops

These editors, as far as I have seen, are less used by professionals than the ones listed above. But they have their supporters and they are regularly updated.

I use Magix samplitude... But if I did not yet have honed skills in working with any of the described programs, then I would choose for myself Cakewalk sonar because the work with MIDI is better there. Otherwise, I am completely satisfied with Samplitude. Using his example, I will show how everything can be done :)

So now you can proceed to install and configure recording program... In the next article, we will deal with the installation of Magix Samplitude 12.
