Operating temperature of the processor of the Samsung Tab 7.7 tablet. ⇡ Conclusion: the best doesn’t come cheap

In recent years, IFA has become the place where Samsung presents all its new products. And this time the company has opened a new stage in its history, which cannot but excite us. SuperAMOLED screens have been one of the most important breakthroughs in smartphone history, and now they're making their way to mobile computing. Meet the Samsung review Galaxy Tab 7.7. With detailed description appearance, compare the characteristics of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 with other models from this line.

As the name implies, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 comes with a treasure in the form of a 7.7-inch SuperAMOLED Plus display. This tablet is evidence that the industry mobile computers is progressing at an impressive rate. In just one year, Samsung has more than doubled the speed of its processors and put its superior display technology into widespread production, while at the same time reducing the thickness of its devices by about a factor of three.

We don't just get Super AMOLED Plus instead of a regular LCD, but we also get a larger screen diagonal with a higher resolution in a body that doesn't add any size. Plus, the inside is specially designed for Samsung tablets Galaxy Tab 7.7 a new version Android 3.0 system, which replaced Gingerbread, when working with which the feeling of a huge phone does not disappear.

Specifications Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7

Form factor:

196.7x133x7.89 mm

7.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen, 16 million colors, WXGA resolution (1280x800 pixels)

Android 3.2 Honeycomb, TouchWiz UI

Dual-core Cortex-A9 1.4GHz processor, Mali-400MP GPU, 1GB RAM, Exynos chipset

3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and the ability to record 720p video; LED flash; front 2 megapixel camera

inner memory 16/32/64 GB, expandable via microSD slot

All these Samsung specifications Galaxy Tab 7.7 shows that Samsung company learns quickly. In the fast-growing tablet market, you can't achieve anything by simply being as good as everyone else—you have to be the best. And what could be more convincing than the combination of the most powerful mobile chipset, an impressive screen and a thin body?

Design and display

The fact that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 has the thinnest body profile and the most harmonious proportions between frame thickness and screen size than any of its competitors tells us that the design is something to be praised. But strengths It doesn't stop there - there's also the black metallic color, intricately curved lines and the absence of buttons on the front panel - all this gives a feeling of unique high-tech.

Thus we can rule that Samsung description The Galaxy Tab 7.7 clearly represents the most advanced technology we've seen this year. And another undoubtedly positive thing is that when you hold a gadget in your hands, you understand - its class suggests - coolness is valued higher than practicality.

However, despite all the superlatives he deserves, Galaxy design The Tab 7.7 won't be its key selling point. A 7.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen with WXGA resolution is more suitable for the role of a key factor.

If you're still not impressed, it's also worth noting that Galaxy screen Tab 7.7 has the highest pixel density among tablets in general - 196 ppi. For comparison, 7? The Galaxy Tab has a pixel density of 169 ppi, the Xoom's LCD screen has a density of 149 ppi, and the iPad's display has no pixel density at all - only 132 ppi. Note that smaller tablets need to have a higher density for the screen to be properly readable at close range, so 7.7? The screen is the clearest of all competitors.

And then there is the amazing image quality that Super AMOLED Plus demonstrates. With AMOLED technology, blacks are as deep as possible by turning off individual groups of pixels, which is impossible with LCD, where the entire panel is backlit at all times during operation.

The viewing angles of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 display are simply impressive, especially if you look at the icons at an angle - they seem to be painted on the top glass, and are not distorted or stretched at all. Of course, there is color distortion at extreme angles (if we're talking about angles close to 180 degrees), but that's about the worst thing that can be said about this display. None of the competing devices even come close to these characteristics.

Finally, since Super AMOLED Plus displays reflect virtually no light, you don't have to worry about loss of picture quality in bright light. There are also no problems with clarity in the sun - a first for tablets.

Until now, tablets have used screens that are much inferior in quality to those found on high-end smartphones. The iPad couldn't compete with the iPhone, the Xoom's screen doesn't compare to the Milestone LCD, and even Samsung's own screens on the Galaxy Tab aren't as good as those on Galaxy smartphones S. And in the case of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 we see that the trend has changed.

The rest of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 case

When we were finally able to tear our eyes away from the Galaxy Tab 7.7's beautiful display, we noticed that the tablet, like the rest of the Honeycomb devices, only had two hardware controllers. All internal navigation is done from the screen, so the hardware buttons on the front are pointless. All there is is a headphone jack and a camera for video calls.

Unlike the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 runs in portrait mode by default. This way, when you hold your computer with the headphone output facing up, the Samsung logo can be read without tilting your head. Of course, you are free to use the tablet in any orientation mode, but we held it that way when describing all subsequent functionality.

At the bottom there are stereo speakers, a microphone and an original Samsung port used to charge the Galaxy Tab 7.7, connect it to a computer or provide HD TV output. Once again, we don't have a standard microUSB connector at our disposal, and we're honestly starting to lose hope that its presence will ever become the norm.

On the top of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 there is another microphone hole and a 3.5mm audio jack.

On the left there is a slot for microSD and another for SIM. Since Android Honeycomb solves all the problems associated with microSD cards, you can now use this slot to expand the internal 16 GB of memory by another 32 GB, and this solution will be cheaper than buying the 48 GB version of the device.

On the right panel of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 there are only two hardware buttons - a volume control and a power control button, which also serves to lock the screen. Below them is an infrared port, which can be used as a conservative method of communication and control. We don't see any real benefit from using infrared port on a tablet, but, obviously, Samsung is thinking about some special applications for him. And in general, its presence doesn’t spoil anything, does it?

We finished our inspection on the back panel, where there is a 3.15 megapixel camera with the ability to record 720p video. Tablets are hardly the most convenient devices for taking photos (even if we're talking about the fairly compact Galaxy Tab 7.7), so the camera here is more of an accessory than a fully functional option. That is why we see no point in dwelling on its specifications - it is good enough for the needs of most users.

Under the hood there is a 5100 mAh battery that can power the device for at least a day under medium loads. There is nothing remarkable to say about her. It is not removable, but this is normal for tablets today.

Overall, the tablet feels very well built. And only when you pick it up, you can feel how thin it is.

Although we didn't use the tablet for too long, we didn't notice any parts that looked cheap or out of place. Now let's review the software.

User interface

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 runs the latest edition of the Android tablet platform – Honeycomb 3.2. Samsung also equipped its gadget with a special TouchWiz UI shell.

In theory, this could mean that the user should find themselves in the same environment as on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. In practice, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 performs much better, and it's immediately clear that Honeycomb 3.2 delivers much better performance.

The only argument we would make against Honeycomb is the noticeable performance hit when running many AndroidMarket apps. We know they're probably not optimized for tablets, but if they work great on WVGA smartphones with single-core 1GHz processors, it would be nice if they performed at least as well on dual-core chipsets, despite the increase in resolution. And that's exactly the case on the Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Perhaps the Exynos chipset with dual-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 processor is the reason for this, but we are inclined to chalk it up to an overdue optimization.

To the extent that you are interested in convenience and simplicity, Honeycomb will not provide anything to complain about. The platform, designed from the ground up for tablets, provides apps with navigation buttons in user interface in the lower left corner of the screen - back, home and task manager (plus a screenshot button if we are talking about TouchWiz), a search shortcut in the upper left corner, an application menu in the upper right corner and last but not least - the zone quick settings and notification settings (again, thanks to touchWiz) in the lower right corner.

Editing the home window works as usual. Beautifully redesigned to work with larger screens, the environment gives you five full-fledged desktops with four tools - widgets, applications, wallpapers and more.

Thus, you can pull out the widget from the bottom panel and move it to the desired location on any of the desktops. On smartphones, you had to rewind your desktops if you wanted to move a widget from one to another.

Unfortunately, unlike most Android smartphones, tablets do not have an option to control the number of desktops. Five grand may be good for some, but if you don't need that much, it just slows down your navigation, and if you need more, there's no way to get more than that.

Another nice feature in TouchWiz is the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, which is no longer static. It slides up and reveals seven tags. Clicking on any of them opens a widget that you are free to move around the screen.

All shortcuts hidden on the taskbar are links to their own Samsung apps. Their list includes a standard task manager, world clock, PenMemo application (taking notes), calendar, calculator, music player and phone app. All of them, with the exception of the task manager and phone, are links to the corresponding full-length applications. In most cases, the functionality of these applications is overlapped by other access methods, so you will not have to use this panel often.

The applications menu is completely normal, here you operate with two sections - All and My applications. The first of them contains all available applications, and the second - only those that you have installed. If you press and hold your finger on one of the icons, you will cause five desktops to appear, allowing you to place a shortcut on any of them.

Samsung has also added several apps to the Galaxy Tab 7.7 pre-installation package. With this tablet you will get a native video player, file manager, a document editor and an ebook application (reading books) - they are all very useful, and it is gratifying that the Korean developers took care of customers.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7: reviews of first impressions

Tablets sell very well not because they are as productive as computers - but because they are more fun to use. And the “interesting use” label really suits the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. and reviews - it's fast, it looks cool and has an amazing screen.

Honeycomb was created to provide tablet interfaces with the greatest functionality, but its performance for a long time left much to be desired. Now, the problems appear to have been resolved, and Google's tablet platform appears poised to become the best yet.

Price. If the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 does not break the $600 price barrier at the beginning of sales, then it will most likely be successful in Russia - Super AMOLED Plus alone makes the device one of the best, and the powerful chipset and thin body are excellent bonuses.

We hope that Samsung will do everything as best as possible and bring the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet to the Russian market in the near future. Competition these days is very tough and today's super device can be downgraded in rank and quality assessment within just half a year after its release - it will be very unpleasant if a similar story happens to such a tidbit of technology as the Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jhosline from Great budget tablet I bought a tablet because it’s inconvenient to watch movies from a laptop, much less read. And then I stopped needing the laptop altogether. Everything was great - I took a screenshot or saved it as a .pdf and went to get the project approved (as an example)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Graflex from For the money there is nothing better. The most convenient size. The best ratio of size, weight, price and capabilities. I would like more memory, but this can be solved with a flash drive. And it’s an excellent indestructible tablet that can also be carried in your jacket pocket or cargo pants pocket, which can be controlled with one hand and which does not create a feeling of heaviness. I have never been able to drain a battery in one day. Overall, this is a very balanced product, where an affordable price does not mean poor quality and lack of features. The only thing I didn’t like was the cameras, and over time the front one collects microscopic dust particles and the contrast drops even more, very noticeably. The rest is reasonable and sufficient. Withstands bumps and falls that would likely kill something more fashionable and subtle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Luel from This device is well worth its price. I bought this tablet a few months ago. I was very pleased. Especially after all the cheap Chinese tablets, you immediately feel the power, heavier and brighter. Sometimes, of course, lags appear, they went away after a reboot or a complete reboot after deleting all the data. Of course, I took this tablet for games. Unfortunately, there is not enough memory, two favorite games cannot be on the tablet at the same time, but donate the necessary programs I can’t, even a flash drive doesn’t help. I still don’t understand why you can’t delete it here. unnecessary applications like play music, etc. After all, I never use them, they just take up space in vain. And yes, I am very pleased with this tablet, for me the only negative is the memory.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet was presented to the general public last fall, but the model entered the market much later (there was even a corresponding presentation in Russia), and it only came to us for review now. However, the device is still relevant. Main feature The manufacturer of the device calls it a 7.7” Super AMOLED Plus touch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Design and Construction

The official package includes the tablet itself, a charger, a cable for connecting to a PC, a headset with several attachments, and documentation. However, the review came from a Samsung test stock, complete with only a charger and synchronization cable, and a branded case as a small bonus. The tablet clearly passed through more than just journalistic hands. This is evidenced by a mark on the back metal cover. Apparently, someone tried to test the device for strength and, as you can see, it passed the test. With the exception of this point, the tablet looks presentable and inspires reliability and the feeling of an expensive thing. Those who have held tablets with Chinese roots in their hands know what I'm talking about. It must be said that the 3G module is present in the P6800 model, while the P6810 offers only Wi-Fi.

On the front side there are light and proximity sensors, a 2-megapixel camera, speaker, hidden behind a metal mesh, 7.7” touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and protective glass Gorilla Glass. This glass is known for its durability, which was confirmed by two weeks of testing - no scratches appeared on it. The left side is decorated with card slots microSD memory and SIM. The holes themselves are closed with plugs; opening them is not difficult, but they give a reliable impression. Nothing dangles or sticks out. On the right side there are volume keys and a power button. The key travel is moderately tight and comfortable to use. Since the sample is a test one, it has a feature that commercial copies do not have - an infrared port. The top side contains a 3.5mm jack for connecting headphones and a microphone for noise reduction and stereo sound recording in videos. Below we see two stereo speakers, a second microphone and a connection connector charger or synchronization with PC. On the back of the device there is a main 3.2-megapixel camera with flash, the manufacturer’s logo on the aluminum cover, information about the model version and its serial number. The lid does not creak or wobble, but during use it was revealed that it was slightly detached from the body, however, it is easily fixable. The metal feels pleasantly cool on the hand and looks stylish. Samsung did its best here.

The tablet really turned out to be very attractive in appearance and differs both from Samsung tablets and from products from other manufacturers. The design of the back side, however, is a bit reminiscent of devices produced by HTC, but overall the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is a distinctive and pleasant product. Comparisons with the iPad would not be appropriate here.

Software

At the time of writing the review, the tablet was running under Android control 3.2 Honeycomb. As for the update to Ice Cream Sandwich, a company representative said to expect it closer to summer. The proprietary TouchWiz, known for Samsung smartphones, but adapted for tablets. The interface is quite pleasant and understandable. Many users complain about significant slowdowns when working with the tablet, but I can say that the device does indeed stutter at times, but only slightly. As a rule, this is noticeable in the widget selection menu. The widgets themselves don’t go anywhere without demand and don’t waste traffic. Offered manual update states, but you can also set automatic in the settings.

By default, the user is allocated three desktops, the maximum number of which can reach seven. At first it was difficult for me to fill even two - there weren’t very many standard widgets. Mini-applications are hidden in the status bar. Their number and the programs themselves can be configured and selected. The “Back” button is responsible for returning to the previous position, “House” returns to main screen, when held for a long time, calls up the task manager, “Running applications” shows active and background programs, and the last button is responsible for taking screenshots. Several factory pictures are offered as desktop backgrounds, including “live wallpapers”. Some of them do not look at all on the tablet screen, the saturation and richness of which reveals all the flaws of a particular picture, so I recommend installing some program from Google Play to search and install normal high-quality images. In my case, PicSpeed Wallpaper was used.

In the Tablet Settings you can see both standard Android items and proprietary Samsung add-ons. For example, in the screen section you can select its mode - standard, film or dynamic. This will slightly mute the colors of the screen or make them calmer and more natural.

As you can see, the device has phone book, dialer and messaging app. Since the model is equipped with a 3G module, you can safely call and write to your contacts directly from the tablet. This is not very convenient, and making calls from a tablet is generally ridiculous (without a Bluetooth headset), but when your phone dies at the most inopportune moment, the “dialer” functions can help you out a lot.

The tablet offers several input types: standard keyboard, Samsung Keyboard, Swipe Keyboard and handwriting. Working with all types is quite simple and convenient. There will definitely not be any serious problems with mastering it.

The standard browser is very similar to its Google view Chrome for PC, offers synchronization with the desktop version of Chrome, allows you to customize the display mode for better power saving, supports Flash and offers many settings. Internet surfing itself gives little pleasure due to the peculiar display white, characteristic of AMOLED screens (bluish tint) and increased battery consumption when displaying it. And if the first point can be called subjective, then you can’t argue with the second. On the other hand, screen resolution allows you to view sites “as is” without using horizontal scrolling and zooming.

The AllShare application allows you to connect, for example, to a laptop or desktop PC via Wi-Fi and view or listen to files while lying on the couch. Convenient and implemented simply and efficiently.

Social Hub is an aggregator of all your online social activity. You can snap to it Facebook accounts,Twitter. The program is quite convenient and informative, but the function of loading the next tweets “Show more” caused confusion due to its inoperability.

Polaris Office is a powerful tool for viewing and editing documents. It supports many formats and its functionality seemed unnecessary to me. On the other hand, a lot is not a little.

The music player is quite simple and intuitive. Equalizer settings, sound effects, sorting by artist, year, genre, folder, composer, and so on are available. By and large, there is no reason to change it to something else. Only if you are not satisfied with the sound quality. It seemed to me very good even without the inclusion of additional “improvers”. As you increase the volume, the tablet thoughtfully warns you that high volume may cause hearing problems.

The image and video gallery is typical for Android. The video player boasts omnivorous formats. Everything I loaded onto the device was displayed without problems. However, I didn’t check Full HD films, since I see the point in watching such pictures on the tablet screen. The factory video, by the way, is made in Full-HD format and looks great. But, in my opinion, HD video will be quite sufficient, especially considering the device’s screen resolution. The image will pleasantly amaze you with its clarity and deep rich colors. What Super AMOLED screens are suitable for is video. It's hard to argue with this.

Built-in photo and video editors are quite powerful tools for editing footage.

The note taking app is very simple yet functional. It allows you to attach and protect a note with a PIN code, sync it with Google, or send it to another device. “Notes” offers almost the same thing, but by hand.

Samsung Apps and GameHub provide access to a variety of games and apps optimized for your tablet.

“Books and Press” allows you to read for free (for the first time) certain newspapers and magazines with which Samsung has agreed to cooperate. The list of Russian-language publications is constantly growing. You can also buy books or download free ones directly from here.

The tablet is equipped with everything necessary for full-fledged work out of the box. There are even built-in task manager and file manager, which are unusual for Android.

Standard Android Google Maps are installed on the tablet as navigation software. The location is determined quickly, and with good Internet speed it’s determined instantly. The program's functionality is more than enough for everyday use.

YouTube in the version for tablets looks nice and clear, and is a pleasure to use.

Application " World time” displays your selected cities and their times on the world map.

“Calendar” is also simple and clear. When synchronizing the tablet with the client social network“VKontakte” or Facebook, the calendar displays your friends’ birthdays, and the application widget will help you remember to congratulate them, in which all these days are marked with small blue rectangles.

Camera

Of course, this point in tablets is far from the most important, but who knows when exactly you might need a camera, and besides a tablet you may have nothing else at hand. The Tab 7.7 is fine with this. Photos are of above average quality. However, in low light, the camera speed slows down very much. As for the video, everything is fine here too. I really liked the quality of video shooting, but shooting on a tablet is incredibly inconvenient and you’re unlikely to want to do it often. This is explained by the fact that microphones for high-quality stereo sound recording are placed on different sides of the device, but as luck would have it, that’s where your hands end up during shooting. The only alternative is to hold the tablet vertically.

There are quite a lot of settings in both photo and video mode, but there is nothing special here, and if you have ever shot with a phone or camera, you will easily figure it out. Examples of photos and videos:

Experience of use

The tablet is equipped with a dual-core 1.4 GHz Samsung Exynos 4210 (Cortex A9) processor with Mali-400MP graphics and 1 GB of RAM, so the device performs best in terms of performance. Heavy games, applications in the background, HD video - everything works with a bang. Interface slowdowns can be attributed to TouchWiz shell, which with the update to Android 4.0 promises to become faster and smoother.

In benchmarks, the device showed itself to be high level. You can see the test results in the screenshots.

Battery life is the tablet's strong point. The 5100 mAh battery does its job. In my hands, the Tab 7.7 lived quietly for a day and a half in active use mode with a SIM card and all wireless modules, and more than 3 days in the “sometimes surf the Internet while lying on the sofa” mode. If you do not load the device and use it from time to time, it will easily last a week. In video playback mode, the device operates for approximately 9 hours. The operating time, of course, can fluctuate both up and down depending on the quality of the video being played, but, in general, the tablet fulfills the 10 hours of operation declared by the manufacturer in video mode.

The screen has good viewing angles, but I don't like the white display. At the same time, rich colors and high brightness and contrast can outshine all imperfections. The screen behaves well in the sun, the information remains readable. The display recognizes 10 simultaneous touches.

The tablet gets noticeably warm during active use and the metal back cover this only makes the situation worse, but the temperature is within normal limits, it doesn’t burn your hands and you can use the device without fear.

Bottom line

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 could easily be called the ideal Android tablet: thin, stylish, light, with good screen and big time battery life, but there is one “but” - the price. Officially, the device now costs about 25 thousand rubles for the younger version. A “gray” tablet can be bought for 16-17 thousand, and for this price the tablet looks incredibly attractive. The only disadvantages include slight slowdowns in the interface and a peculiar display of white color, but this parameter is rather subjective and many will probably not even focus on this. In addition, there are plans to update to Android 4.0, which will optimize everything. The original cable for connecting to a PC and charging can also be a hassle, but with such a battery life it is very difficult to be left without charging at the wrong moment, so there is no need to constantly carry it with you.

Unfortunately, there is not enough memory, two favorite games cannot be on the tablet at the same time, and I cannot sacrifice the necessary programs, even a flash drive does not save. I also don’t understand why you can’t delete unnecessary applications like play music, etc. After all, I never use them, they just take up space in vain. And yes, I am very pleased with this tablet, for me the only negative is the memory.
