When working with files, a situation often arises when you need to restore a deleted file. In many cases, it is sufficient to use a similar function in the Trash. If this method is not available for some reason, the Recuva program specially designed for recovering deleted files will help us.
The free utility allows you to recover deleted files of different kinds, including music, pictures, documents, videos and other data.
After starting the program, we can provide further actions to the wizard, or continue independent work with an attachment. In the first case, press the button [Further], in the second [Cancel]... If we do not need the services of the Recuva wizard in the future, you can check the box.
In the main window of the program after launching, we will not immediately see the list of deleted files.
To start recovering files, first of all, select the drive on which you want to search for deleted files (1) , in addition, you can specify the type of files to search (2) ... Then press the button [Analysis].
The analysis may take some time depending on the settings. Upon completion, the found deleted files will be displayed:
Files that can be recovered are indicated with a green mark, and lost files with a red mark. Recuva provides a very convenient ability to view deleted files without recovery. You just need to select a file in the list and its contents will be displayed on the right side of the window.
Tab Summary contains information about the file, including the size and state of the file. In case the condition is indicated as Excellent , you can safely restore the file. State Lost (and the red mark) indicate that recovery is no longer possible.
After reviewing the list of deleted files and checking the boxes, press the button [Restore…]... The program will ask us to indicate the new location of the recovered file. The fact is that the recovered file does not appear in the same place where it was deleted, but in a different place.
If the deleted file is successfully restored, this will be reported.
Let's pay attention to a few points that you need to keep in mind when recovering files using the Recuva program.
The file names do not always remain the same as they were before the deletion. Often Recuva gives recovered files simple names consisting of numbers. After restoring, you can rename the files.
Even recovered files may not always open and display normally. The fact is that the program partially recovers files. This could be because part of the file was overwritten by another file.
You should restore files as soon as possible after deletion, being careful not to write other files or work with any programs. For example, after deleting all files from a USB flash drive and then filling it with other files, it will be almost impossible to restore the original data, since the files created later actually overwrote the old ones.
If the recovered documents still do not open, you can delete them, since it is almost impossible to extract useful data from them.
Recuva has additional settings(button [Setting]- tab Actions). For example, by enabling the option Deep analysis (longer), you can get a larger list of found files for recovery than with conventional analysis.
Check box Recover folder structure will allow you to restore files so that they will be placed in a folder with the same name where they were before deletion (although most often it is created with the name Unknown folder).

I want every visitor to my site to recover all the files that he lost and for this I will write a very detailed instructions... I will describe 6 different programs, with which you can recover deleted files from a flash drive, memory card or hard disk!
Recuva
The first program is called Recuva and in the world of recovering lost files, this program is one of the most popular and simplest. As always, we need to download it from the official site and install it.
Let's get down to business right away.
We insert into the computer a USB flash drive or memory card from which you want to recover deleted files. If you need to recover files from your hard drive, you don't need to insert anything.
We launch the Recuva program and first of all we will now turn on the Russian language. Press the Cancel button in the first window.
The second window is already the main window of the program, here we go to Options.
We find the Russian language.
Now everything is in Russian and it is more convenient to work. We indicate the letter of the drive or flash drive where you will need to restore the files and click Analyze.
After a few minutes, the program will show a huge number of files, among which there may be those that we need. Here you will immediately need to pay attention to the Status of the file.
The file can be in Excellent Condition, Average, Poor or Lost... It's good if you remember the names of the lost files. If not, then you will need to check the boxes in front of the files in Excellent Condition, Average and Poor... After that, click the Restore button.
We indicate on the computer the location where the recovered files will be saved and click OK.
The main thing is not to save files to where they are being restored from!
Upon completion, the finished files can be checked and deleted those that recovered with errors.
The main thing is to remember that if you deleted some important files, then in no case you cannot write other files to the same drive! For example, have you accidentally deleted several photos from your camera? What to do? The first step is to stop taking pictures. With each new file recorded on the memory card, the likelihood of recovering previously deleted files decreases!
The next program with which you can recover deleted files, even if the first program did not help, is called. In some cases, it will even be cooler than Recuva.
The principle of operation is very simple, even though the program is in English. You need to download, install, run and select the drive from which you want to restore files.
Having opened the drive, the program immediately scans it and builds the folder hierarchy that was before the files were deleted. You need to open the folder from which we deleted required files and try to restore them.
Hovering over each file with the mouse, we can see its size. To restore it, you need to right-click on it and select Recovery.
You can also select all files or even all folders and press Recovery. Now the matter is small: specify where the files will be saved. The first item is responsible for saving the file to the hard drive.
And in the second window, specify the drive and folder where these files will be saved.
Oh, yes, you can still give the file a new name.
After saving, we check the received files.
Another program for scanning and finding lost files is called. Distinctive feature this program is a very nice design.
In the main window of the program, we are offered to familiarize ourselves with the action plan. If you have a free minute, then I advise you to read.
We accept the terms of the agreement and click Let's get started.
Select the flash drive or disk where you want to find the files.
We are waiting for a few minutes while the search for lost files is in progress.
Upon completion, we can familiarize ourselves with the information found. On the left we open the folders in which the files should have been and on the right they will be displayed. We put a check mark on the necessary files and click Restore Selected.
All that remains is to indicate the drive where the files will be saved and, upon completion, to check them.
The next, quite powerful program capable of recovering deleted files on a computer is called. Everywhere you look, everyone speaks well of this program.
The principle of operation is similar to the previous programs. We need to select the disk with the lost files and click Scan.
The scan progress is displayed at the bottom of the program.
When it is completed, we will need to select the disk again. Only now we click on it with the right mouse button and select the item Recover all files.
Specify the path for the program to save and click Yes.
In some cases, the program will ask you to correct the file name. This is usually due to damage to the original file name. Give a name and click Rename.
The next program is called Ontrack EasyRecover and it works in the same way as the others. We are in the first window, just a description of the program is given and here you just need to click Continue.
In the next window, you need to select the type of drive on which the data will be searched.
Well, and most importantly, specify the specific drive letter or flash drive on which you need to try to recover deleted files.
We choose what we specifically need to restore, what was deleted and confirm the settings.
AND last program which we will try is called.
In the upper left corner, click Start, then Recover Files and Next.
Select the drive letter and the item Search for deleted files.
Upon completion of scanning, on the left we open the folders, and on the right we put the daws on the files that need to be restored. Click Save and save it to a convenient location on your computer.
How to recover deleted files on Android?
As for smartphones, the situation is similar here. For example, to recover deleted files on Android you need to remove the memory card from the phone, then insert it into a computer or laptop and use any of the above methods to recover lost files.
Piriform's Recuva program is one of the worthy representatives of tools for recovering deleted data (for example, after formatting or damaging removable drives). By the way, the Piriform company has made another good program- Speccy, we have it.
You can download Recuva completely free of charge on the official website. There are paid version(for February 2018 its cost is 800 rubles), but it does not give serious advantages. When installing, do not forget to select Russian and refuse to install CCleaner:
How to recover data with Recuva
After starting the program, a wizard will automatically start to help you recover your lost data. You can specify the type of files you want to recover, this will speed up the search (you can select the types: images, videos, documents, and so on):
Be sure to specify the path to the drive where you want to search, because by default Recuva will search for files wherever possible. It will take a very long time, and it will be difficult to find anything in the huge number of results.
If the files were simply deleted, Recuva will find them without any problems and offer to restore them:
If your drive has been formatted, and in other difficult cases, Recuva will offer you to do an in-depth analysis - agree. It can take quite a long time, depending on the size of the disk:
After the end of the search, click the "Switch to advanced mode" button, you will see something like this:
There can be quite a lot of items, because Recuva will find, among other things, files and folders that have been deleted for a long time. You will be able to sort files by type, size or location. It remains only to select the necessary files and click the "Restore ..." button.
Who among us hasn’t ripped our hair out after a thoughtless press of the "Delete" button? Probably only someone who has never dealt with a computer. Sometimes months of work and tons of valuable files can go down the drain with incorrect finger movement. It's good if you realized right away - a program for recovering deleted files can help you.
How data recovery programs work
The fact is that, like nature, the computer's file system abhors a vacuum. If you delete a file, then, as a rule, from file system only the file header is deleted, that is, information about its location on the disk. The file seems to exist, but it does not seem to exist, since it is "without documents". And, until something else is written over this file, it is possible to restore it in rights. For this, special programs have been created like Recuva, which we will consider further.
Installing Recuva
It is best to install this program before the "loss of loss" is detected, as it is possible to install the program over the lost files. That is, it turns out that the doctor came and sat down to the patient with a sore. But, if the files are already lost (as is usually the case), all that remains is to pray that the program will not be installed on them.
So, let's move on to installing Recuva... Download the archive with the program from the official Piriform website
and extract the folder with the name from it Recuva... Go to the folder and run the Recuva.exe file. A window will appear with the choice of the program language. Russian is suggested by default. If there is no objection, click "Ok".
A window appears with a greeting from the program:
Push "I accept", confirming that we agree with the license agreement (otherwise the program will not be installed). The next window will offer to create icons for quick launch programs and include automatic check new versions:
Having selected the necessary checkboxes, click "Install"... At the end of the installation, the last window opens with a proposal to run the program after installation. Push "Ready", and now, we have a recovery wizard:
Work through the recovery wizard
If you wish, you can skip it and go directly to manual recovery, but, for the first time, it is still better to use his help. Push "Further" and the wizard asks what type of files are we looking for?
Let's say we are looking for lost photos. We choose "Pictures" and press "Further"... New window asking about the estimated location of the lost files:
As a rule, we remember exactly where they lay (at least approximately). We indicate this place and click again "Further"... Now the wizard is ready to start the search, which he tells us about:
Push "Begin", we observe the search process and as a result we get a list of found files. As a result, we get something like this (although, depending on the settings, it can be in the form of a list, as in the photo below):
Here, some of the pictures will be replaced with an inscription "View unavailable"... This means that some new information has already been written over them, and it will no longer be possible to restore them. To restore those that we managed to save, mark them with checkmarks and press the button "Restore" in the lower right corner of the window.
The Recovery Wizard will ask you to specify the folder where you want to place the recovered files. We point him to the folder and click "OK"... Now, if you open this folder in "Explorer", then you can find the recovered files there.
Advanced file recovery mode
Let's see what is behind the button. "Switch to advanced mode":
Here we see a list of recovered files in the form of a table. In this window, you can view the contents of each file (tab "View"), parameters (tab "Summary") and title.
From here, you can also start a new restore session, specifying the same parameters that the wizard asked.
Recuva settings
Now let's press the button "Settings" and see what you can customize here. There is no point in describing them, the pictures speak for themselves.
The process of searching and recovering files is very simple, as well as the program interface itself. Search results deleted files you can sort by type (graphics, music, documents, videos, archives) and view the contents immediately.
If you need to restore many files and at the same time preserve the folder structure, then you need to tick this option in the settings.
To restore, select the files we need with checkmarks and click on the button "Restore"
In addition to recovery, Recuva is also able to completely erase files so that they cannot be restored with such programs. To do this, you need to select the method of wiping the magnetic surface of the disk on which the file (s) to be erased is located.
After choosing the method, you need to mark the files to be deleted and select the appropriate item in context menu (right button mouse).
The program is actually quite simple and intuitive, you shouldn't have any complications.
Sometimes the question is asked why the program was unable to recover something from the lost files? The fact is that on hard drives always something is erased and something is recorded, some temporary files, some background Internet downloads, etc. AND, since files on disk are usually stored out of order, but in small fragments, the less free space on the disk and the more time passes from the moment of deletion, the more likely it is that the necessary fragments will be overwritten with new ones. And the loss of any piece of the file is usually tantamount to the loss of the entire file. Therefore, small files are also much more likely to remain intact than large ones.
Do not install this program on the disk from which you want to recover deleted files, it can overwrite the deleted files.
Sometimes recovery programs give users unreasonable hope: they recover deleted files, but they cannot be read. Photo does not open, documents saved in * .doc format do not contain text - only a set of characters. What is the reason for this? Is there any program for recovering files after which there are no problems with the fact that the data cannot be read?
Causes of the problem
So, you've recovered deleted files, but they won't open. The name, size, date of creation of the photo or document are correct, but when you try to open them, an error appears. This is due to the fact that the file was not actually restored - the program only read its header and pulled out some information from there.
Naturally, such files cannot be read, even if after recovery they retain their name and extension (doc, jpg, mp3, etc.). Apart from the title, there is nothing inside. Even if there are some fragments, they cannot be viewed due to the fact that zeros are written instead of the required data. You can try opening such a photo through Photoshop:
If the JPG file is not badly damaged, then you will have chances to see some part of the image that is not overwritten with zeros. Sorry to fix those zeros by software does not seem possible. Therefore, such files cannot be read after recovery - you cannot create a photo or document from nothing (i.e. zeros).
If you have recovered a deleted video and after returning find that the file does not start, try playing it through VLC Media Player.
Unfortunately, errors are only fixed in AVI files, besides, a badly damaged video won't play anyway.
Recovery by signatures
How to behave if a file cannot be opened after recovery? Can you read jpg files to get back the photos you want? Small chances remain if you follow these recommendations:
- Try using other recovery programs - DMDE, R-Saver, Recuva.
- Run full scan disk with signature search, rather than a quick search for deleted files.
Let's see an example of launching an in-depth search (by signatures) using the R-Undelete program as an example:
What is signature search? The program scans the disk trying to find familiar pieces of data. File headers of a specific format contain a specific set of characters. For example, a photo saved in JPEG format has “JFIF” in the title.
By reading data from the file system and using signature analysis, the recovery program has a better chance of detecting and recovering deleted files. However, signature search and recovery is not a panacea either. If the file was heavily fragmented or other information was written in its place, then there will be little chances to return the photo and other data. 
The limitation also applies to strongly damaged discs: recovery programs can work only with those files that are on healthy and accessible to clusters. Otherwise, a situation arises in which the DOC and JPG files seem to be found, but instead of text and photos, you only see an error message.
