Xperia e4. Sony Xperia E4 Review: One of the Longest-Lasting Smartphones The screen of a mobile device is characterized by its technology, resolution, pixel density, diagonal length, color depth, etc.

In our opinion, the Sony Xperia E4 looks simple and quite cheap. Its dimensions are 137 × 74.6 × 10.7 mm. The body of the device is small in height, but wide. As a rule, state employees, for example, Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime or Philips S398, are slightly longer and narrower. The device has an impressive thickness - up to 10.7 mm, the smartphone clearly does not claim to be a thin device. The weight of the novelty is 145 grams, the same weight for the 5-inch YotaPhone 2 or HTC Desire 610.

As for the appearance, it seems that the design of the Xperia models has become boring already for the company itself. Now the smartphone has more rounded shapes, there is a removable cover “enveloping” the body, almost like in Lumia smartphones (though it's strange that the phone's battery is not removable). By the way, the cover is not easy to remove. The display panel rises slightly above the rest of the case.

But the shape and arrangement of the buttons remained the same: the round power key and the volume rocker are on the right side. The speakers are on the bezel at the top and bottom, and another one on the back at the bottom.

The main body material is inexpensive plastic. The Sony Xperia E4 is available in white and black (we tested the white model). Build quality is decent, but the removable lid squeaks and clicks when you press down on it.

Screen - 3.5

The diagonal of the display of the Sony Xperia E4 is 5 inches. The display resolution is typically budget-friendly - 960 × 540 pixels, which gives a pixel density of 220 per inch. On such a screen, you may notice individual pixels. If the quality of the display is the determining criterion for you when choosing a smartphone, then we recommend that you pay attention to the Acer Liquid Jade or Philips S398 with HD displays.

The matrix type is IPS, the viewing angles are average, which is good for its price. In our tests, this is a pretty bright screen. The maximum measured brightness was 431 cd / m2, which is a good indicator. The minimum brightness of the white background was 18 cd / m2, which is noticeably bright when reading in the dark. In the display settings, there are no "fancy" modes, like the flagships of the company, but there is a smooth adjustment of the white balance. We also found that the display reacts well to the sun: information remains readable, despite the fact that the protective coating of the display reflects noticeably. The smartphone has an auto-brightness function available, which works quickly, but, in our opinion, in a rather narrow range of brightness changes.

As we expected, the Sony phone does not have a glove mode, but the display does not actively collect fingerprints.

Camera

The Sony Xperia E4 has 5MP and 2MP cameras. The main camera has an LED flash, autofocus and a mode for improving the details of shadows and highlights in the frame. It detects faces and smiles, takes a series of photos with a finger hold, adds touch-up effects and shoots panoramas. In addition, there are fun virtual effects: you can superimpose virtual scenes on the video, for example, gnomes or walking dinosaurs.

The maximum photo resolution is 2560 × 1920 pixels. Moreover, in auto mode, the resolution will be lower if you do not change the aspect ratio from 16: 9 to 4: 3.

The detail of the main camera is typically low for 5 MP (2560x1920 pixels). During our tests, we noticed that the camera takes a long time to shoot (a lot of time passes between shots), so it is better not to shoot moving objects. In addition, the quality of the photo depends on the lighting: when the lighting deteriorates, "noise" immediately appears in the pictures. Many photos are too bright or overexposed. However, the problem is partially solved in HDR mode. It works efficiently.

The front 2 MP camera shoots photos with a resolution of 1600x1200 pixels and HD video at 30 fps.

Working with text - 5.0

The Sony Xperia E4 keyboard is highly customizable. It supports Swype, dictionaries, and multiple keyboard skins. In the settings, you can adjust autocorrections, use your writing style (the smartphone will analyze the words you wrote in social networks and the email client to use them in tips). There is also voice input, markup for additional characters and a separate key for emoticons. Switching to another language is carried out using a separate key.

You have the option of using the one-handed keyboard mode if the screen seems large to you. In it, you can move the keyboard to the right or left for convenient one-handed typing.

In our opinion, the keyboard is thought out to the smallest detail, which is why we rated it highly.

Internet - 3.0

The Sony Xperia E4 has Google Chrome as a browser. Its main feature is synchronization with the desktop version. We tested the browser - in general it works fine, but sometimes it "slows down" on the pages. There is no multiple scaling of pages or a separate reading view in this browser. But you can scale it once to a preselected size - to do this, you need to double-click on the screen. There is also a search on the page and a traffic reduction mode.

Communications - 1.0

The set of interfaces of the Sony Xperia E4 is typical for a budget smartphone. Available in the phone: Wi-Fi (b / g / n) with Wi-Fi modem mode, Bluetooth 4.0 with low energy consumption and support for A2DP, A-GPS and GLONASS. Note that its predecessor, Xperia E3, worked with LTE, but here there is no such possibility. We tested the interfaces - everything worked fine.

The smartphone works with Micro-SIM cards, there is a choice of a dual-SIM version of the device and a version with LTE support. There are connectors: for a headset and a simple Micro-USB 2.0 without MHL or USB OTG for connecting devices to the phone.

Multimedia - 4.6

The Sony Xperia E4 audio player supports many formats and plays MP3, FLAC, WAV files and a number of less popular formats. Only AC-3 or DTS formats were not played in the tests. It's a pity, but the Xperia E4 does not come with headphones, but there is a proprietary Walkman application with good customization options, including an equalizer.

In general, everything is also good with video, but the player did not want to play MPG, FLV videos and some MKV videos. The built-in video player has a number of settings, including support for subtitles.

Battery - 2.8

The Sony Xperia E4 has a 2300 mAh non-removable lithium-polymer battery (recall that the Sony Xperia E3 had 2330 mAh). In our tests, the smartphone battery performed well for a budget employee. The device played HD video at maximum brightness for 6 hours and 15 minutes. While listening to music with the screen off, the device was discharged in 54 hours (more than two days). In the mode of not the most intensive use (Wi-Fi on, periodic browsing, a couple of calls a day, listening to music, one movie a day and casual games) the battery lasted 1-1.5 days.

The kit comes with a charger for 0.85 A. At the same time, the smartphone takes a long time to charge: it took us about three hours to fully charge the Sony Xperia E4.

Performance - 1.7

The Sony Xperia E4 is powered by a mid-range chipset, a quad-core Mediatek MT6582, clocked at 1.3GHz. The transition from Qualcomm to the more budgetary MediaTek looks very strange, apparently, Sony decided to save on the budget line. The amount of RAM is 1 GB, the Mali-400MP2 accelerator is responsible for the graphics. By the standards of Android smartphones, the Xperia E4 is pretty fast and sluggish. With active browsing with several open pages, the device starts to "slow down", but not critical.

The Sony Xperia E4 is suitable for most applications and undemanding games. According to the results of our synthetic tests, the smartphone takes the middle position. In games, the Sony Xperia E4 performed moderately. Games like Asphalt 8 will have to be played on low graphics, while Minion Rush runs smoothly. In synthetic tests, the smartphone showed results typical for the middle-level "filling". So, in the AnTuTu benchmark, the smartphone received an average of about 19,000 points, and in 3D Mark Ice Storm Unlimited it did not reach 3,000 points a little. The "filling" is far from the flagship, but the smartphone works fine and allows you to run most games.

Memory - 3.5

The total amount of internal memory of the Sony Xperia E4 is limited to 8 GB, of which 4.78 GB is available to the user. It's not much, but you can buy a memory card separately. The Sony Xperia E4 supports microSD cards up to 32GB. In this case, you can make a "hot swap" of the memory card without rebooting - just remove the cover and insert the card into the slot.

Peculiarities

The smartphone runs on Android 4.4.4 operating system with a proprietary interface from Sony: all standard applications (from SMS messages to the gallery) have been redesigned and have an original look. As of today, the Sony Xperia E4 is not on the list of smartphones that will receive the update to Android 5.0, and this is unlikely to happen. The features include a removable smartphone cover in combination with a non-removable battery and a proprietary Walkman application with a good equalizer.

The Sony Xperia E4 is honored to be the first device in the new Xperia line with the number 4 in early 2015. The model received rather simple characteristics, but along with them a design that is not typical for the company's past products. Sony dubbed this look flagship and catchy, making it clear that the next smartphone models will adhere to the new concept (for example, the upcoming Xperia C4). In this review, we have to evaluate in practice the pros and cons of this approach.

Unboxing and video review

Complete set and design

The delivery package of the smartphone is painfully familiar and ordinary: a white box, inside which there is only a short microUSB cable for connecting to a computer or a complete ordinary device for 850 mAh, as well as documentation. An inexpensive device is not supposed to do anything more, although available gadgets have examples of rich sets.

Externally, the phone is a reflection of a new design concept, very different from OmniBalance, famous for its symmetry and balance of all sides and parts of the device. It does not yet have a specific name, and it will not work to call it particularly original. We have a rounded body with a protruding glass front panel, which has already been encountered in smartphones Nokia Lumia, Samsung Ativ S and, of course, Apple iPhone 6. For some reason, unlike its predecessors, Sony did not care much about the smoothness and streamlining of the front surface. equipping the E4 with a glass panel with strongly protruding sharp edges. This is somewhat out of harmony with the overall roundness and smoothness of the device, and also negatively affects the usability - swiping from edge to edge will not cause aesthetic pleasure here. At the same time, the body itself is quite comfortable and feels comfortable in the hand. It is made of velvety white plastic (or simple matte, if we talk about black color) and can be easily removed, under it there are slots for a memory card, one or two SIM (for E4 and E4 Dual, respectively), a non-removable 2300 mAh battery and incomprehensible origin and destination is an elongated slit that looks like a receptacle for a small stylus. If you wish, you can even put something there and store it inside the smartphone (a couple of matches just in case, for example).

The control elements are arranged in a way familiar to Sony products, everything is accessible to any hand, except that the proprietary metal power button would be felt a little higher, and the volume keys sometimes require interception of the case. One oddity is associated with them - they are pressed very easily and unpredictably during normal use, and if you remove the lid several times, then the normal functionality of the volume down key is likely to break (it seems to be not pressed and the phone adjusts the volume back and forth). In this case, all the grooves and fasteners of the cover are in place. Perhaps this is a feature of our test sample. There is a microphone under the screen, although the hole is identical to the earpiece speaker and can be misleading, making you think that there are two speakers on the front panel at once (like the older Xperia). But there is only one multimedia speaker and it is located on the back panel. There is also a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash located higher in the center.

The screen in the Xperia E4 is simple - 5 "with qHD-resolution (960x540 pixels), an inexpensive IPS-matrix with inversion when tilted, but with good viewing angles. By the way, the Xperia E4g model has no air gap with a slightly smaller display and a slightly more powerful filling. currencies) much to wait and do not have to, especially since Sony does not favor affordable devices with flagship screens.

The phone is firmly assembled, but after several removal of the back panel, a strong creak of the left side of the case and its noticeable pushing came to light. Hence follows the recommendation: inserted the SIM card for the first time - forget about the removable cover and do not pull it again. There is no water protection familiar to many Sony smartphones.

Software

The smartphone runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with the latest version of the Xperia Home shell. The set of applications is standard for inexpensive Sony Xperia (there are no display enhancers, some audio tricks and other features typical of flagships), except that Party Share is something new (allows you to share various content with friends via Wi-Fi Direct). The upgrade to Lollipop is likely to be the last thing after all flagship and mid-range devices on the rollout roadmap. It makes no sense to talk about a typical set of Sony services and applications for the hundredth time, see the screenshots - they are quite clear and understandable.

Camera

The Sony Xperia E4 uses a 5MP autofocus module as the main camera and a 2MP non-autofocus selfie module as the front camera. The interface is similar to the older models and offers the same variety of functions and modes.

As for the quality of photos and videos, it is not enough stars from the sky, but for such a simple smartphone it is sufficient. Below you can evaluate the examples yourself.

Benchmarks and performance

The smartphone is based on the MediaTek MT6582 chipset, the processor has 4 cores and a frequency of 1.3 GHz. In the presence of graphics Mali-T400MP2 and 1 GB of RAM. The filling, at first glance, is sufficient for most simple scenarios of use, but the phone noticeably slows down even during the most common operations. The fact is that for some reason 1 GB of RAM is not enough for him, despite the modest qHD resolution, and in fact about 300 MB is available to the user after closing all programs. Downloading several applications from Google Play, working with several programs at the same time - all this is accompanied by noticeable jerks of the interface.

Sony Xperia E4 is a smartphone with a good battery, sufficient performance for basic tasks, good design and a moderate price tag. Of course, any device has its own nuances and, as a rule, there are even more of them in a budget phone, so the E4 is no exception. Without wasting a minute, we go to review.

Equipment

The packaging familiar to other Xperia products (thick cardboard with good printing) hides the phone itself, charger, Micro USB cable inside itself, and that's probably all. Sony has not been seen in the generosity of various bonuses for buyers before, so immediately to the appearance and ease of use.

Design

The appearance of the smartphone is simple, uncomplicated and at the same time interesting. The smartphone is wide enough, even unusually wide when compared to devices from competing companies. Nevertheless, it fits well in my palm, wide enough. Owners of narrow palms thinking about buying should definitely try the device live. Impressions may be very different from mine.

Since we're talking about the convenience and dimensions of the phone, it's worth taking a look at the size plate.

The back cover is made of plastic and covers all sides of the smartphone. On the right side are the volume keys and the power button, made in the corporate style of Omni Balance.

The buttons on the lid are just repeaters of the keys, which are located directly on the body, under the back panel. It is clear that it is not easy to press on them without the battery compartment cover installed, and in general it is not necessary.

Surprisingly, the Japanese have not installed a separate physical key to release the camera shutter. The presence of the latter has always been typical even for devices that could not boast of photo quality, but now the policy has apparently changed course. Where to? It's not clear yet. Instead, any of the volume keys are responsible for taking pictures. And what, in principle, is an option.

There are no elements on the bottom except for the hole for attaching a lanyard to the device. By the way, Sony is perhaps one of the few manufacturers that still continue to equip their products with lace loops. Maybe the president of the company wears his phone this way?

On the upper part, right in the lid, there is a hole for connecting headphones - standard 3.5 mm jack. There is nothing else here.

The Micro USB connector is located in a non-standard place - on the left side of the device. Whether it is convenient or not - let everyone decide for himself. But a little strange - that's for sure.

At the back is the main camera lens, and next to it is an LED flash. In the middle - the company name, and closer to the bottom of the slot for the multimedia speaker.

The volume of the latter is average, on a noisy street, especially if the smartphone is in a bag, it costs nothing to miss an incoming call.

The back cover is removed interestingly. Anywhere along the perimeter of the sidewalls, it is enough to pick it up with your fingernail and the lid will give in. Contrary to expectations, the battery is not removable here - it is hidden deep in the case and you cannot replace it yourself without losing the warranty.

There are also slots for installing a SIM card (Micro) and a memory card. One of the recesses is tightly sealed. This means that in nature it is found and even sold here, a two-symbol version of the phone - Sony Xperia E4 Dual. Later we will definitely talk about the modifications existing on the market, since there are enough of them in stock.

Above the display is a standard set of elements: a front camera, earpiece, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor. The brightness control is generally correct.

The hole for the earpiece is located symmetrically to the same slot, which is already under the screen. A spoken microphone is hidden here.

The manufacturer successfully played with this moment and did not make additional holes around the perimeter of the case. The touch-sensitive system control keys are part of the software interface, so it is convenient to hold the smartphone in landscape orientation when playing games or watching videos - there are no accidental presses.

The display itself is covered with a protective glass. There may be an oleophobic coating, but it does not fight the accumulation of fingerprints in the best way. When the screen of the device is in the bright sun, greasy fingerprints make it difficult to see the details of the interface - you have to hide the device in the shade.

There is a small edging around the display bezel that protrudes slightly from the body. It is plastic and quite sharp to the touch, but fortunately it does not cause any inconvenience.

Two color variations will be available on our market: black and white. Of course, you won't go too far, but there are the most popular colors - classics in one word.

Display

The manufacturer installed a 5-inch screen in the smartphone with a resolution of 960 x 540. The density of dots per square inch does not exceed 220 ppi. This, of course, is not much, so individual pixels are quite easy to distinguish. You do not need to have special eyesight for this.

The viewing angles are good. The image is not inverted, does not fade and remains fully readable at any angle of inclination. It is clear that the brightness drops, but this is typical for all LCD screens.

Specifications Sony Xperia E4 (E2105):

  • 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6582 processor (4 cores)
  • video chip Mali-400 MP2
  • RAM 1 GB
  • 8 GB built-in storage (4.78 GB actually available)
  • Support for Micro SD memory cards (up to 32 GB)
  • 5 '' display (TFT) 960 x 540 pixels, Multitouch (up to 4 simultaneous touches)
  • front-camera
  • main camera 5 megapixels
  • sensors: accelerometer, light and proximity sensor
  • battery 2300 mAh
  • connectors: 3.5 mm, Micro USB (2.0)
  • Android OS 4.4.4

Wireless interfaces:

  • GSM GPRS / EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz, UMTS HSPA + 900, 2100
  • Wi-Fi (b / g / n /), Bluetooth 4.1

The system on a chip (SoC) MediaTek MT6582 is used here as "brains". It is based on a relatively old (late 2013) processor with four Cortex-A7 cores. The chip is produced on the basis of a 28-nm technical process and includes a Mali-400 MP2 video accelerator with an operating frequency of up to 500 MHz.

UMTS / HSPA + (3G) modules, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS wireless interfaces are built directly into the SoC. This explains the lack of 4G support - this requires a different processor, which is installed in the more advanced version of the Xperia E4g.

Our hero does not shine with performance. You can play modern toys only by setting low graphics settings. Some games may not launch at all.

Quite serious brakes are observed even in the AR Effect camera mode. Virtual gnomes jump onto the screen with a long delay, and during the shooting they move with visible delays. You can hardly call it comfortable using this feature on a smartphone.

There were no obvious and serious brakes in the interface of the system. Yes, the device is thoughtful and does not instantly open any installed applications, but the proprietary shell is generally well optimized. It is comfortable to work with it when performing ordinary, non-resource-intensive tasks.

At the end of the section, of course, the results of passing synthetic tests are in their rightful place.

Camera

Front camera 2 megapixels with a maximum resolution of images up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. There is no need to talk about any special mode for selfie-maniacs. For video calls, the front module will do quite well, but for your own portraits it is much worse.

The main photomodule is represented by a 5-megapixel sensor, which is capable of taking photos at a resolution of 2560 x 1200 pixels.

The shooting quality can be called satisfactory. It often happens that the sensor misses the exposure or focus, as a result of which the frames are either blurred at the edges or overexposed in some places.

You can only deal with this by taking 3-4 pictures at a time. This can partially save the situation.

In general, what to say. Everything can be seen in detail on the example of photos shot with the Sony Xperia E4 camera.

Of course, like all other devices of the company, there are a whole bunch of different interesting shooting modes here. You already got to know a little about AR Effect when describing the performance of the device and using the examples of pictures above. The most interesting scenario is Timeshift Burst. Using an example and we described this technology in detail, and in the case of E4, it can only work as a cool feature. Nevertheless, the initial level of photographic materials does not reach the necessary level.

The smartphone can record video in a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with a frequency of 30 frames / sec. Except for the problems described above, the quality of the videos is not bad.

Battery life

The manufacturer claims over 10 hours of talk time on 2G or 3G networks, continuous music playback for 48 hours, and video playback for up to 7 hours. All this is possible thanks to the 2300 mAh non-removable battery.

In practice, battery life is the strongest point of the device.

The E4 can operate under load for a full two days. In moderate use, this figure can be improved up to 3-4 days of operation without connecting to a charger.

And if you take into account the preset power saving modes, then even four days is not a record.

Models and prices

Our review is about the Sony Xperia E4, also known as the E2105. More advanced is the Sony Xperia E4 or E2003. The modification differs for the better due to the MediaTek MT6732 processor with a frequency of 1.5 GHz versus 1.3 GHz in the regular version, the Mali-760 MP2 video accelerator, as well as support for LTE frequencies (bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 , 8, 28). Of course, the cost of the last device is higher (from 10,490 rubles).

Modification E4 Dual or E2115 does not differ in anything except the presence of a second SIM card (only 2G on the second slot). The same processor, the same video chip, and so on. The price is slightly higher and amounts to 9,990 rubles.

Hopefully now you have a complete picture in your head of what Sony offers to consumers in the budget range.

Outcome

Model on the market now Sony Xperia E4 can buy for 8,990 rubles and this price can be considered quite adequate. In return, you get an ordinary, modern budget device that can perform almost any (see not resource-intensive) tasks and lives on one battery charge for a day with a little more than products from other manufacturers.

Yes, a display with a higher resolution could be installed here, the camera is better, as well as the device with support for LTE networks, but, following the realities of the market, this would already be something from the category of 12-13 thousand rubles.

Nevertheless, Sony, apart from the cool and, so to speak, chubby design of the E4, did not offer anything interesting that would make the smartphone stand out from its competitors. Yes, the device is reliable, working, the price is adequate and that's it.

The smartphone has one single competitor that beats it on all fronts (with the exception of battery life) - the Huawei Honor 4C. The latter stands out against the background of competitors due to its very good characteristics and a very affordable price. However, it was not without a fly in the ointment - the Chinese just won't be able to buy this. Read more in.

    1. Price. My budget was limited, but this smartphone is very good for its price category. 2. Screen. In the bright sun, everything is clearly visible, the glass is not scratched, the pixels are almost invisible. 3. Functionality. 4. Appearance. Nice and comfortable in the hand. 5. Android 4.4. Before that I used Windows Phone, android turned out to be much easier for me, more pleasant, and also more customizable. 6. Fast. 7. I was very pleased with the presence of two energy saving modes. 8. You can adjust the overall sound volume in certain applications separately, in video and games, for example 9. It catches the network well even in the subway.

We can say - Everything. Smart, there are no glitches yet, very energy-intensive, easily enough for the whole day, although I rarely set the brightness of the screen to maximum, but it's too early. The Internet is fast. The sound is very good in headphones, at least someone will not seem loud It's enough for me. True, the headphones are not plugs, but full-sized senheiser. I have not tried small ones. Games go easily, while there is no big heating, What else distinguished from my previous phones is the sound when making calls, the interlocutor is always heard perfectly, no extraneous sounds and distortion of the voice, at first it was even unusual. Even if it was noisy around and you could hear me perfectly. The camera is quite good, and the photo is always quite clear, even during the day or at night. The flash is bright.

    A very nice sensor, like all Sony, however; + good sound, very good for a smart, voluminous, not very loud, but clean. In some headphones, there will be no bass (if the headphones themselves do not focus on low ones, the bass will be very weak); + speed of work, 4 cores (although a media library), 1 GB of RAM - quite enough to work without brakes for calls, music, internet and some other applications (I don't play games); + you can turn off almost all applications (which I did), battery life will significantly increase, Stamina mode (it helps, you can add exceptions); + appearance, nice matte back panel; + build quality; + non-removable battery; + support for Micro SD up to 32 GB;

    1) The proprietary shell of the operating system from SONY 2) The sound quality in the headphones (clear sound, good bass) 3) The optimal amount of memory for a phone of this level 4) Acceptable performance (modern games run smoothly, you can perform many simple tasks at the same time) 5) Quite holds a charge for a long time (during normal use, it lasts for 2 days) 6) Discreet appearance 7) It fits comfortably in the hand, and does not slip (the back panel feels like ceramic)

    1. 5MP camera ... Even my previous Sony Xperia tipo with 3.2 camera, in my opinion, took better pictures. Although, in the daytime, with different camera settings, the photos come out quite well! The front-end has not yet been used.
    2. Speaker. When talking, some complain that they do not hear me well. Yes, and I myself noticed that the sound seems to be removed, but for me this is not very critical.
    3. As soon as Wi-Fi catches, it immediately starts updating all programs.

The short usb cord included in the kit is only 10 cm, it gets very hot when you play games, there is little memory, out of 8 GB only 4 with kopecks are available, it is impossible to transfer some of the programs to a USB flash drive and delete unnecessary ones

    1. Camera. On my previous phone, Nokia Lumia 610, the 5 megapixel camera shot better than the current one at 8. Even the front camera seems to me better than the main one.
    2. About 4 GB of built-in memory is available. Some applications cannot be transferred to a memory card.
    3. No headphones included and very short USB.
    4. So far, only one case for this model.

The sound is quiet, especially if it is lying on something. The unlock button protrudes strongly from the case, you can accidentally press it if it is somewhere far away, in a bag, for example. Well, I didn’t notice the essential ones.

    I'm not sure about ips, the screen is strongly illuminated, it is difficult to see in the sun, dull by itself (although on the other hand it does not consume a charge), the colors are slightly distorted when viewed from corners;
    - 4GB on board, not 8!
    - the screen is not capacitive, it is easily controlled by some stylus, wires from headphones and a jeans pocket (my jeans are very fond of changing songs);
    - there are a lot of unnecessary applications in smart;
    - the keyboard is bad: it changes dictionaries by itself and moves the cursor to the end of a word suddenly when editing a word with all corrections disabled. It is very inconvenient to type;
    - the unlock button is on the side in the middle, personally I am not comfortable with this arrangement.

The camera is supposedly 5 megapixels, in fact, it's just horror, some stains and unnatural colors. Wifi works only when you turn on 3G, (you can turn off 3G only through data transfer, then Wifi is cut off - that's how it was planned), more precisely, and then it does not work - when all the gadgets are attached to Wi-fi, the valiant Xperia writes "Wifi rejected from - for an unstable signal ". The system itself is clumsy to the point of disgrace. It seems to be Android and that's it - but there are frightening differences from the usual android, which, as if out of spite, were created by deranged people. For example, to make a call, you need to press the handset icon, enter the contacts (the button at the top of the screen), then the search icon - it is at the very bottom of the screen. The search line itself immediately appears at the very top of the screen. To dial a couple of letters of the desired subscriber, you immediately need to use your finger again

Very little RAM, only 860MB. The device began to slow down after six months

    1) Meager equipment (except for the charger there is nothing)
    2) Short charger cord (causes a lot of inconvenience)
    3) The general appearance is satisfactory, but has moved away from the SONY style, and has become at the level of some Chinese noname phones, only a beautiful power button and SONY icons save from oblivion
    4) An extremely mediocre camera that clearly does not live up to expectations. Previously, SONY put good cameras even in budget phones, but now there is no such thing (although the official website claims that the camera is wonderful)
    5) Outdated hardware (old processor and graphics)
    6) The IPS display is poorly configured, the colors are unsaturated and incorrect, graininess is noticeable due to the small number of pixels per inch (in the settings you can adjust the white balance

There is a gap in the lid on the left side, sometimes it loses its connection via Wi-Fi and there are problems with entering the Gmail mail when authorizing the phone in the playmarker (it always gives an error). After rebooting n times, the problems with Gmail disappear. Complete USB cable 8 centimeters long.

Sony Xperia E4 is a representative of the budget line of smartphones of the Japanese company, which is positioned as an affordable device that can satisfy all the needs of an ordinary user who does not pursue a top-end filling and wants to have a quality product by finding a reasonable compromise between price and performance. Therefore, if you are among those who want to become the owner of this model, then this Sony Xperia E4 review will be at least interesting to you.

If earlier the phrase “budget smartphone” made us realize that most of the things that the device can solve will be calls and SMS, now such a budget employee can quite satisfy all the needs of the user and Sony Iksperia E4 confirmation of this: communication with friends on social networks, working with applications, capturing a moment in memory, playing games - the smartphone does an excellent job with all tasks.

Key features of the model:

  • 5-inch IPS LCD display
  • 4-core Mediatek MT6582 processor
  • 2MP front camera
  • 8 GB of internal memory with support for microSD memory cards
  • Sony Xperia E4 Dual Dual SIM Version
  • 2300mAh battery
  • Built-in microphone for noise cancellation
  • All the wireless connections you need

Although the smartphone cannot be called ideal and it has some weaknesses, although they will not be such for everyone and the available parameters will completely satisfy the user aimed at this price group.

Possible disadvantages:

  • Screen resolution
  • The processor is not the newest
  • The camera is not the highest resolution
  • Lack of 4G LTE

Smartphone design and appearance

Externally, the smartphone is somewhat different from the rest of the models that we are used to seeing in the latest Sony lineup. The design was somewhat refreshed with roundness, the display is slightly moved forward compared to the back cover. The case is made of plastic, which is pleasant enough to touch and doesn't look too cheap. But the power button and the ring around the camera are made of metal. There are no complaints about the assembly, and even despite the removable back cover, no backlashes or creaks were found.

Under the back cover there are slots for a SIM card (in the case of the Dual version there are two of them) and a microSD memory card, but the battery, unfortunately, is not removable. On the upper edge there is a headphone jack, on the left there is a microUSB connector, and on the right there are volume and power buttons. The model is presented in black and white body colors.

Display

Sony Xperia E4 is equipped with a small 5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 960 by 540 pixels with a density of 220 pixels per inch. These are not the best indicators, however, the picture on the display looks pretty good, the viewing angles are high. Of course, one cannot say that this display is the best, but within the framework of its price it is a good matrix. By the way, its coating reflects quite a lot, so the matte anti-glare film on top of it will not interfere with the user.

User interface

Hardware part

The hardware is based on the Mediatek MT6582 chipset, which consists of a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and Mali-400MP2 video. Although the chip is not the newest, the Japanese managed to squeeze the full maximum out of it, because the smartphone works quite smoothly and copes well with modern toys:

Also, the smartphone has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage for storing personal data. By the way, in synthetic tests the smartphone does not show much better results than its predecessor Xperia E3, but in real conditions it is apparently faster and smoother. This proves once again that synthetic tests do not always show a clear picture and should not always be guided by them.

The built-in 2300 mAh battery in special tests showed good results, sometimes even surprising. In general, the phone showed 88 hours of operation - that is, if you use it for an hour of calls, an hour of watching movies and an hour of working on the Internet, it will easily last three and a half days from one battery charge. General indicators of autonomy: 11 hours in 3G calls, almost 16 hours and 40 minutes in web surfing mode and 9 hours of video watching - very decent results for a budget employee! Here we can definitely say that if you need a state employee with good autonomy, then Sony Xperia E4 is the best candidate.

Camera

The resolution of the main camera of the Sony Xperia E4 smartphone is 5 megapixels, which is not revolutionary. The interface of the camera application, if you have already met the company's smartphones, will be familiar to you. There is an automatic shooting mode, a manual mode with the possibility of self-setting, as well as various applications for the camera, which were previously available only to top-end and mid-price models, and now they can be found in the state employee.
As for the quality of the images, we were surprised that such a small sensor was able to take such photos. Color reproduction, exposure and contrast are decent, detail quality is also high. But all this is observed when you look at the photo in 1 to 1 resolution, but if you try to zoom it in, you can immediately see how the noise suppression algorithm affects the details, although a certain amount of noise still remains. The dynamic range is also not high enough. In general, this camera is quite useful for sharing pictures on social networks and quickly capturing some moments of your life. Examples of photos from the Xperia E4 (albeit in cloudy weather):

An example of how HDR mode works:

And here is what the front-facing "crumb" can do - a photo from a 2-megapixel front camera:

The smartphone can shoot video in Full HD (1080p) frames per second and has digital image stabilization.

conclusions

The model is definitely interesting considering its price. Even without being a style icon, the smartphone looks very interesting, plastic materials and assembly are excellent. It is worth praising the capacious battery and good performance that was achieved on the not very new MediaTek chipset. Of course, the display could have a higher resolution, and its fading in the sun is a little upsetting. In general, the smartphone may well become very popular among domestic users, because it corresponds to the “cost-opportunity” balance.
