However, there are situations when the factory settings do not allow you to fully enjoy the picture of a film, video or program. Then there is a need to set your own parameters. But how to do this? Modern TVs have quite nice and convenient picture settings

Let's start with the image modes that are found in every modern TV of any brand (LG, Samsung, Philips, Sony, and so on). There are at least three of them:

  • Standard;
  • Dynamic;
  • Movie.

In almost all models, the best picture is provided by the “Cinema” (or “Cinema”) mode. In this mode, gamma and brightness are most pleasing to the eye, especially when watching movies or shows in the dark.

As for the correct color temperature, it would be best to set the “Warm” mode, since, as a rule, it is closest to the standard value of 6500 K. Some models provide several options for the same color mode, for example, in Samsung TVs: “Warm1”/“Warm2”. Here choose which one you like best, but usually the second option is the most pleasing to the eye.

If you set your TV's picture settings yourself, it is recommended that you disable all automatic picture adjustment functions and modes on your TV. We are talking about parameters such as:

  • Dynamic contrast;
  • Energy saving;
  • Light sensor;
  • Dynamic backlight.

It is advisable to disable all this and not use it.

Basic Settings

Now let's deal with one of the key and most important parameters images, namely by contrast. If contrast is considered to be the ratio of the white field level to the black level, then on TVs you will only adjust the brightness of the white field; in fact, this is the level maximum brightness pictures. If you have a plasma panel, then it is best to adjust the contrast with the lights off. Open an image with a white level window on your screen. You can download it from the Internet. Then set the contrast value close to the maximum and begin to gradually reduce the contrast until the picture with the white level is most pleasing to the eye.

Samsung TVs have a “cell brightness” item - it is this that most affects the overall brightness.

If you have a liquid crystal or LED screen, then everything is done the same way, only here a different parameter is used - “backlight brightness” or “backlight contrast”. This difference in names is due to the different design of LCD and LED TVs from plasma panels.

Please note that if the image is too bright, your eyes will tire much faster.

HDMI

The reasons why you want to get an image from a small computer monitor onto a large diagonal HDTV can be very different.     Since televisions can be equipped with a large number of similar appearance input and output ports, always pay attention to the direction of the signal in the connector.     Click directly on it and check the “Extend the desktop onto this monitor” and “Use this monitor as the main” options that become available.


    Click the “Apply” and then “OK” buttons. When prompted to save the changed display settings, click Yes.


    As a result of these steps, an image should appear on the TV screen.

    If the resolution of the connected TV is automatically determined incorrectly and black unused bars remain on the screen, you will need to launch “Display Settings” again and change the resolution on the now active second display to the required value by dragging the corresponding slider.

  3. After the settings have been made, you can work with the TV screen as with a regular monitor. Run games on your computer, watch movies in a video player program, while receiving an image on a large TV diagonal.
Additional tip
When you disconnect your computer from your TV, be sure to set your computer screen as your primary screen again. Otherwise, you will get a blank desktop when you launch it.

There are several desktop display modes:

  1. Laptop screen only
  2. Only external monitor
  3. Laptop screen and external monitor.
    a) Clone (duplication) mode;
    b) Desktop extension mode.

“Laptop screen only” and “External monitor only” modes

With these modes, as a rule, everything is extremely clear and understandable. If the video card drivers are installed correctly, then:

  • in the “Laptop Screen Only” mode, the resolution on the laptop screen should be native, and the fonts should be perfectly straight;
  • When switching to External Monitor Only mode, the native resolution of the external monitor must be set, even if it exceeds the resolution of the native display. If the monitor is connected to the laptop via the VGA port, then the only thing that may be required from the settings is to press auto-tuning button on the monitor.
    For example, a 2006 HP nx6310 laptop with an outdated 1024x768 matrix resolution should produce a 1920x1080 resolution absolutely without problems when connecting a modern monitor via a VGA connector.

Modes for combining the laptop screen and external monitor

1. Cloning (duplication) mode

If not produced additional settings, as a rule, the image cloning mode is turned on. As you understand from the term itself, all connected monitors (or projectors) will display the same image with the same resolution. In this mode (cloning or duplicating), the lowest resolution of all screen resolutions is taken as the basis. If the laptop screen has a resolution of 1366x768 and the monitor has a resolution of 1920x1080, then both screens will have a resolution of 1366x768. However, in some cases the image on the external monitor may not stretch to fill the entire screen:

If you have a laptop with integrated video from Intel, the setup can be done using the Intel utility.

  1. Graphics options;
  2. Output to;
  3. Additional displays;

2. Desktop extension mode

Extended Desktop Mode requires initial setup. Sign in Control Panel and select setting Screen:

In the next window, you can configure the resolutions of all displays connected to your computer (laptop, netbook).

  1. Select Expand these screens.
    When you switch modes, it doesn't matter which display is currently selected.
  2. Select an external monitor.
    In our case it is number 2.
  3. Please indicate its native resolution.
    Typically this is the maximum resolution available. In Windows 7 and 8, you need to move the slider all the way up.
  4. Click OK to save screen sharing settings and resolutions.

Desktop Extend Mode on Intel Graphics Card

If your laptop has integrated Intel video, you can enable extended desktop mode using the Intel utility.

Right-click on an empty field on the desktop and select the following menu items:

  1. Graphics options;
  2. Output to;
  3. Extended desktop;
  4. Built-in Display + Monitor:

Attention! The display manager program, which is controlled by the function keys in the top row of the keyboard paired with the FN key, will look different on different laptops. In addition, different manufacturers may have different function keys for switching displays.

The idea of ​​connecting a computer or laptop to a TV may be quite reasonable if, for example, you often watch movies stored on your hard drive, play games, want to use the TV as a second monitor, and in many other cases. By and large, connecting a TV as a second computer or laptop monitor (or as the main one) is not a problem for most modern TV models.

For your computer, the connected TV is simply a second monitor, and accordingly, all settings are made in the monitor settings. On Windows 10 you can do necessary settings as follows:

How to adjust the image on a TV from a computer and laptop in Windows 7 and Windows 8 (8.1)

In order to configure the display mode on two screens (or on one if you are going to use only the TV as a monitor), right-click on an empty space on the desktop and select “Screen Resolution”. The following window will open.


If you have both a computer monitor and a connected TV working at the same time, but you don’t know which one corresponds to which number (1 or 2), you can click the “Detect” button to find out. You will also need to clarify the physical resolution of your TV, as a rule, on modern models it is Full HD - 1920 by 1080 pixels. The information should be in the operating instructions.

Settings

  1. Select the thumbnail corresponding to the TV with a mouse click and set the “Resolution” field to the one that corresponds to its real resolution. Otherwise, the picture may not be clear.
  2. If you use multiple screens (monitor and TV), in the “Multiple displays” field, select the operating mode (more details below).
