Russian users of Android smartphones began to receive notifications about the availability of a payment service application for installation. However, you cannot use it yet - bank cards cannot be connected to the service.

According to TASS, on Sunday a number of Android smartphone users in Russia began receiving notifications about the possibility of installing the application “ Android Pay" from Google Play. In particular, the notification came to a gadget running operating Android systems 7.1.2. Users of devices with more earlier versions The OS has not yet received such notifications.

When you first launch the Android Pay application, the system prompts you to add a bank card, but it fails. The application does not accept either Sberbank cards or Alfa Bank cards. “Your bank has not yet allowed this type of card to be added to Android Pay,” the message says. In this case, 30 rubles are first written off from the card, which is designated as a “purchase”, and Google Services is indicated as the seller, then this transaction is canceled.

Previously officially download Android app Pay was impossible - in the store Google applications Play reported that the service is not available in Russia.

The system also suggests contacting bank employees for additional information. In the list of banks participating in the system and cards that support Android Pay, banks are grouped by country, but Russia is not there. The list contains banks from countries such as the USA and Great Britain, Japan, Australia, Belgium, Hong Kong and Singapore, Ireland, New Zealand and Poland.

The fact that Android Pay will work in Russia on May 16,. According to sources, among the banks that were already working on implementing the system in February were Sberbank and Alfa Bank. Google has not officially commented on its plans.

We believe that the combination of all technologies will provide the majority of smartphone owners with the opportunity to pay from their phones, it doesn’t really matter what kind of phone they have, because it will use tokenization and make secure payments,” formerly Director of Business Development and Digital Payments of the payment system Mastercard in the Russian Federation Mikhail Fedoseev.

The date of the official launch in Russia of the payment service from Google - Android Pay happened on May 23, 2017! Owners of smartphones running the operating system of the same name are happy and, of course, wondering what devices this service works on.
The list of devices that support Android Pay is quite extensive, and this is its advantage over analogues that focus only on one brand.

Android Pay compatibility with your gadget

Your gadget will be fully compatible with only two components. This:

  1. Operating system Android version KitKat4 and higher. This version works successfully on models of almost any brand released after 2013. View your version operating system You can go to “Settings” by selecting the “Device information” sub-item. Read more about this here.
  2. The developer version of Android won't work either.
  3. The next point will be the presence on your or another Android gadget of a module that is responsible for contactless data transfer (NFC module). If you don’t know for sure whether such a function exists on, say, a phone, you can find out more information in its technical specifications. In addition, on some smartphones and tablets, the contactless data transfer function must be enabled additionally in the settings. Read about that in our article.
  4. You do not have to have a rooted smartphone. Also, Android Pay cannot be installed on a smartphone with an unlocked bootloader. In this way, Google strives to protect customers from scammers: devices with an unlocked bootloader are less secure. For more information, see our information. Anything is possible 😉
  5. Should not be installed on the phone Samsung app MyKnox.
  6. The device must be certified by Google.

And there are also some phones that seem to be suitable, but nevertheless you will not be able to use the payment service on them:

  • Samsung Galaxy: Note III, Light, S3
  • Elephone P9000
  • Evo 4G LTE
  • Nexus 7 (2012)

Well, that’s all, you’ll agree – a little. Today, there are about 40% of Android gadgets with the appropriate characteristics. That is, in addition to almost any smartphone or tablet of the latest generation, the service can be downloaded, for example, to a phone released in 2014. And they can do so at any retail outlet where contactless payments are accepted, and there are a great many of them today. If you want to know, go to the corresponding article.

The moment has come when Android Pay has reached Russia. Official date release in the Russian Federation - May 23, 2017. New way payment has great importance, because About 80% of the population has an Android phone. Accordingly, it is necessary to sort out some aspects of the new product.

is a technology that allows you to make contactless payments using a phone under Android control. To use it, on a smartphone (or other suitable device, e.g. smart watch) a special application “Android Pay” is installed, in which they are “scanned” plastic cards.

Which banks support this technology?

A complete list of banks and payment systems that support Android Pay. At the time of writing this article, these are 14 banks and 1 payment system.

  • Sberbank
  • Yandex money
  • VTB 24
  • Binbank
  • Promsvyazbank
  • Opening
  • Rosselkhozbank
  • Dot
  • AK Bars
  • Alfa Bank
  • MTS Bank
  • Raiffeisenbank
  • Tinkoff Bank
  • Rocketbank
  • Russian standard

How to start using it?

Download the application from Google Play. Download exactly from there, no need to install the application from third-party resources!

Next, add a card. To do this, the application will open a camera through which you must scan the desired plastic card. Then enter the date and CVC code. Wait for an SMS message from the bank and enter the code indicated in it. A test 30 rubles will be debited from you, and after a short period of time, they will be credited back.

Is it safe?

Yes, this payment method is safe to use. There will be no actual linking of real data to any transaction. When paying, new sets of symbols will be generated in the “cloud” each time, replacing real data. The real details are stored on Google servers, in encrypted form.

When entering the application, you need to unlock (standard: enter a PIN code, graphic key, etc.), the screen lock is set during installation. In case you want to disable the lock, the data will be erased.

If your phone is stolen or lost, you can block or delete data remotely through the service Android Device Manager.

What is needed for the application to work?

Operating system Android, version no lower than 4.4

Availability of a working NFC chip

Attention! If your device is rooted or has unofficial firmware installed, then there is a chance that the application will not work. The same applies to Chinese phones, purchased, for example, from Aliexpress.

Do you need internet when using android pay?

Another question that interests many is whether Android Pay can work without the Internet? It can, but not for long. The fact is that information about transactions is stored in the Google cloud, in encrypted form. Accordingly, without connecting to the network, Android must use tokens from the phone’s memory. And this, approximately, multiple transactions. As a result, you will be able to pay for purchases several times without connecting, but then the application will ask you to go online.

Android Pay - how to use

The process of using the application itself is very easy: you just need to bring the phone to the terminal and enter the PIN code (for purchases up to 1,000 rubles, you do not need to enter the code, the code will not be requested).

If a payment is made in an online store, you need to click on the appropriate icon (it will be highlighted there), and you will be taken to the application to make the payment.

If there are several cards, then before paying you need to select the appropriate one. Otherwise, the funds will be debited from the default card.

How do you know that payment this way is possible?

Regardless of where you want to make a payment using this method (in a hypermarket or in an online store), you can find out whether this can be done or not by the image of the following button:

Those. if there is such an icon on the terminal or in the online store, then payment is possible.

Advantages and disadvantages

pros

Convenience. Plastic cards can now be left at home; they will not take up space in your wallet. And most people have devices running on the Android system. In addition, you can “hold” several cards in your phone at the same time.

Speed. Slightly, but using the phone, payment will be made somewhat faster than using a plastic card. No need to waste time inserting the card and entering the code. It is enough to bring the phone to the payment terminal (up to 1,000 rubles - without entering a PIN code).

Safety. As stated earlier, Google guarantees that your data will be protected. And the payment scheme itself is implemented reliably.

Telephone. If you lose your device, you need to spend time using the application (for this, it is now better to set a password on your phone). If these were plastic cards, the theft of funds would have occurred faster.

Minuses

Charger. If you don’t calculate correctly and the battery runs out before you pay, the only alternative will be cards. And if they don’t exist, then you won’t be able to pay for your purchases. In other words, you are addicted to your phone as a device.

Prevalence. Because The technology is new for Russia, and it has not been implemented everywhere. Some stores will not be able to accept payments from Android Pay. But nevertheless, this problem is gradually being eliminated, and the number of points that support the new type of payment is steadily growing.

Cash. In order to remove cash, you need to carry a card with you. Not all ATMs are equipped to accept payments from Android Pay. The problem is temporary. I think that this feature will soon be available at all ATMs.

When paying up to 1,000 rubles, a PIN code is not required. Whether this is a plus or a minus is up to you to decide.

Surely many already know that on May 23, 2017, the mobile payment service Android Pay was launched in Russia, also known as Google Pay since 2018. This means that now not only owners of Apple and Samsung, but also many users of smartphones on the Android platform can pay for purchases with their phones. If you haven’t heard about the new service yet, I’ll try to tell you everything I managed to find out about it!

BUNES AT THE END OF THE REVIEW!

Sberbank notified me about this application when I logged into mobile app Sberbank Online. My debit card was asked to be added to Android Pay. As a curious person, I rather went to download the application to test it.

Briefly about the new application: just bring the unlocked phone to the terminal - and the payment is made! To confirm payment, a check mark appears on the phone and a winning signal is emitted. I made four payments through the application - from 84 to 59,000 rubles - I never needed a PIN code or a fingerprint scanner.

With the advent of the Android Pay payment system, not only users can pay for purchases with their phones Samsung smartphones, but also owners of other models on the Android platform. But you should know that to work with the system you need phones with relatively new version firmware - no lower than Android 4.4 and an NFC module (almost all modern smartphones have it). Plus there should only be official firmware!

Where can I pay for Android Pay purchases?

In stores equipped with terminals supporting PayPass and PayWave contactless payment technologies. But the service will not work in older terminals with a magnetic stripe. This is where Android Pay loses out to Samsung Pay.

It was an unpleasant moment for me debiting 30 rubles to check the card.

The system is Google’s, and Google often does this: they withdraw a small amount, then return it. BUT! I didn’t think about this when I decided to link the Tinkoff credit card to the application, which I had lying around just in case, but was not activated. I have already linked this card to Samsung Pay - I linked it and that’s it. And Android Pay bang - and debited 30 rubles from the inactive card. He returned them back, but was it written off? Was! This means the card has been activated and the annual service will be charged. Keep this in mind, it is better not to bind such “spare cards”!

To pay with an application, you need to select it as the main one in the contactless payment settings of your smartphone.

Previously, I used Samsung Pay, linking Sberbank, Alfa-Bank, Tinkoff Bank and Yandex.Bank cards to it. In principle, of the cards I have, I cannot link only the Kukuruza and Megafon Bank cards to the service. Kukuruza has the ability to pay by phone from the application, and Megafon Bank supports PayPass. Of course, you still need to take it with you.

The list of banks that cooperate with Android Pay is almost identical to the list of Samsung Pay (and Apple Pay). Most banks only work with Mastercard cards. Here is a comparison table:

For Visa cards the list is more modest:

It is worth understanding that, as a rule, Mastercard Maestro and Visa Electron cards do not work in mobile payment services.

Cards are sorted in the order in which you added them to Android Pay. If desired, they can be swapped and arranged in an order convenient for you. One of the cards will be used by the application by default; you can use it to pay for a purchase without unlocking the screen. This card will be at the top of the list.

The process of linking a card is simple. After you scan or photograph your card, you will be asked to check and enter the missing information - full name, address, zip code, phone number. By the way, I read that some people have problems with the index, and the system does not want to accept the actual index. Therefore, residents of Moscow, for example, indicate the index of the Moscow region - and everything works.

As additional confirmation, you will be required to enter the verification code from SMS.

You also need to accept the terms and conditions of the issuing bank. The scope and content of conditions may vary for different banks. Examples:

Just like Samsung Pay, Android Pay uses tokenization for transactions.

Tokenization is a method of protecting your card data by replacing the card number with a virtual one (token).

The token changes with each new operation, which you can see in the photographs of my Sberbank card - the last 4 digits are different.

In the application, under each card, a short list of transactions carried out on this card through the application is displayed.

You can also add store loyalty cards to the application. I added some cards, but didn't use them. For these purposes, I am more familiar with another application. And I'm not sure I want to overload payment system discount cards.

The application can even add gift cards. These appear to me extremely rarely, so there was no opportunity to test this function. However, I don't quite understand how to use this service - aren't gift cards confiscated at the time of purchase?

Payment with the Android Pay app will be available after the phone is unlocked. Without a PIN code or fingerprint protection installed on your phone, the application should not work. However, they write that with an unlocked phone you can make three transactions in a row for amounts up to 1000 rubles. Personally, my payment still hasn’t gone through. And that makes me happy.

Even in Samsung Pay, for example, payment is activated by the fingerprint of the phone owner. Android Pay does not have this, even when I paid for services for 59,000 rubles at a car dealership, they did not require any additional confirmation from me. It's faster, of course, but I feel more comfortable with the print.

Let's summarize.

  • the service works on most modern smartphones based on Android
  • for check google maps will write off her and then return 30 rubles
  • You can also load store loyalty cards and gift cards into Android Pay
  • both services use tokenization to protect card data
  • the list of partner banks for Android Pay and Samsung Pay is almost identical
  • Android Pay will only work with NFC terminals, while Samsung Pay will also work on magnetic stripe terminals

For me, the choice is obvious - I will continue to use Samsung Pay, and I like their interface better. But I recommend trying new service owners of other Android smartphone models. Pay by phone - fast, convenient, safe!

PROMISED BONUSES:

When paying with a Mastercard card through the Android Pay app, Burger King will 50% discount on all burgers. Verified ✓

Bank cards have quietly entered our lives and become part of everyday life. Just a few years ago, payments without cash seemed something unusual. And today everyone uses at least 2-3 cards.

At the same time, progress does not stand still. Contactless payment services are becoming more widespread every day. With their help, you can aggregate all the necessary cards in a smartphone, which you always have with you. In the meantime, the original plastic can be stored in a safe place to avoid damage or loss.

On May 23, 2017, Android Pay, a contactless payment service from Google, began operating in Russia. Unlike competitors, the new application supports all smartphones and tablets with OS version from Android 4.4 KitKat, as well as watches on Android Wear 2.0! To make payments, the device must be equipped with NFC.

Already at launch, Android Pay works with Visa and MasterCard. The list of partner banks promises to expand every day, more detailed information on the official website.

How to install Android Pay

Installation and Android setup Pay is a simple procedure that even a novice user can handle.
  1. First, make sure your smartphone is equipped with NFC using special application.

  2. Download and install latest version Android Pay.
  3. After launching the application, it will offer a list of maps linked to your Google account.

  4. Please read the terms and conditions of the issuing bank carefully.

  5. To use the service, you must activate a secure screen lock.

  6. The last step is to confirm the card via SMS or call the call center.

Attention! After adding a new card, a test payment of 30 rubles will be debited from it. After some time, the money will be returned to your account.

You can also add new map. To do this, you will need all the details: card number, expiration date, security code and holder’s payment address. The number can be removed automatically using a photograph, but the quality of recognition leaves much to be desired.

Unfortunately, performance on some smartphones is not guaranteed. In particular, the service is not available on Xiaomi devices including with official firmware and a locked bootloader.

How and where to use Android Pay

Pay with using Android Pay - truly convenient! The only requirement for the terminal is support for contactless cards PayPass/PayWave. Already today, old-type terminals are the exception rather than the rule, and every day there are fewer and fewer of them.

To pay you need bring the smartphone with the activated display to the POST terminal. The transaction can be performed offline, without an Internet connection. If the payment amount exceeds the safe limit of 1000 rubles, you will have to unlock the device and enter the traditional PIN code.

Unlike traditional cards, the service provides detailed information about each transaction, information about the location of the terminal is also attached.

The practical application of Android Pay is not limited to non-cash payments. Using a special API, application developers can integrate a new payment method. Which in the future will make it easier to pay for services online; the need to enter card details manually each time will disappear.

Residents and guests of the capital have the opportunity to pay for travel on the metro and MCC using a smartphone. Despite the fact that initially there was talk of tariffs at the level of 35 rubles per trip, the fare is 40 rubles, as in the case of using Apple Pay. The Moscow City Hall also “Travel by metro or MCC for 1 ruble in the first month,” however, at the last moment, the conditions changed, the actual discount is 50% of 40 rubles. On practice, new feature is unstable, presumably due to incompatible validators. And the lucky ones who paid for the metro via smartphone report that the proposed promotion is invalid.

Extremely useful feature- aggregation of discount and gift cards. The list of partners includes not only large chains, but also small regional stores. In addition to emulating contactless cards, the system is capable of simulating a barcode for reading directly from the display.

How secure is Android Pay?

After a quick acquaintance with the capabilities of the service, it arises logical question about his safety. After all, payment is carried out literally in one touch, it seems that unauthorized access can be obtained just as easily. But this is far from true! Android Pay has been working for more than two years in the USA, Great Britain, Australia and some other countries. When launching a service in our country, all accumulated experience is used, which allows us to avoid unforeseen situations.

Scheme Android work Pay

The mechanics of such systems deserve special attention. Payment security is the basis modern services! The data of the entered cards is not stored explicitly directly in the device’s memory; a special remote storage has been created for them. The smartphone only has an electronic impression, which becomes useless apart from mobile device, which eliminates the threat of data theft. Temporary tokens are used to communicate with the terminal, and any operation is confirmed by the issuing bank. Theoretically, the data intercepted during payment does not contain important information and is intended for one-time authorization.

Also, do not be afraid of unauthorized payment by touching the portable terminal to the smartphone. A turned off smartphone will detect the terminal and notify you with vibration, but to make a payment you will need to activate the display. Or enter a password and PIN code if the payment amount is greater than the secure limit of 1000 rubles.

No matter how reliable the system is, no one is immune from errors, including large corporations. Therefore, additional precautions will not hurt. Rule separate card for online purchases fully applicable to contactless payment services. Special account with a small amount for pocket expenses - best way out. Translate additional funds through Personal Area bank if necessary is not so difficult, but the consequences of losing the main card may be irreparable!

Superuser rights in combination with Android Pay completely shifts the responsibility for data safety to the user. By default, the application is blocked on hacked smartphones; security systems are used for verification SafetyNet. Therefore, bypassing the blocking in this situation is a matter of chance; there is no clear method. Wherein, It is highly recommended not to use the service on jailbroken devices, the consequences may be unpredictable!

Conclusion

The launch of Android Pay in Russia is another confirmation that a new era is dawning in the world of payments. Contactless payment It’s really worth trying for yourself, especially in the summer season, when you don’t want to carry anything extra with you, including traditional means of payment.

Android Pay as a service looks quite attractive, primarily due to its wide coverage of user devices at the start. It is worth recognizing that NFC is a common function in the Android world. In addition, many promotional companies are expected in the near future to popularize it, because each of us loves pleasant bonuses and discounts!
