Extra power connectors 6 PIN. Connecting the video card. Connecting additional nutrition

Power connectors for peripheral devices

In addition to connectors for motherboard, everything power supplies also equipped with various additional connector, most of which are intended for powering disk drives and other peripheral devices, for example, a powerful video card. Most peripheral connectors, in turn, comply with industry standards for one or another form factor. In this part of our material, we will look at what additional connectors you can meet in your PC.

Power connector peripheral devices

Perhaps the most common type of connectivity that can be found on all BP is the power connector of the peripheral devices, which is also often called the power connector of disk drives. What we understand under this type of connectivity, first appeared in the AMP power blocks in the BP series and was called the Mate-N-Lok connector, but since it began to be made and sold by Molex, he also began to be called "Molex connector", What is not entirely correct.

To determine the location of the contacts, look carefully on the connector. As a rule, in the right side of the plug, there is a plastic protrusion and the key that is necessary for properly fixing the connector in the nest. The following diagram shows a standard connector with a key on a fork. It is such a connector that is used to power the disk drives (and not only):

Power connector peripheral devices

This connector was used on all PCs, starting with the original IBM PC model and ending modern systems. It is most famous as a connector for disk drives, however, is also used in some systems for additional nutrition of the motherboard, video cards, cooling fans and any other PC components that can use voltage +5 V or +12 V.

This is a 4-pin connector having four round-shaped contacts located at a distance of 5 mm from each other and designed for the current up to 11 and each. Since the connector includes one pin +12 V and one +5 V (two others - grounding), the maximum power of the current through the connector reaches 187 W. The plug of the connector has about 2 cm in width and it can be connected to most disk drives and some other components of the PC. On the following table, we give the purpose of contacts on this connectivity:

2 GND. The black 4 +5 V. Red

Power connector floppy disk drives

In the middle of the 1980s, for the first time, drives for magnetic disks 3.5 inches and then it became clear that they need a more compact power connector. The answer was that today is known as a power connector of floppy drives, which was developed by AMP as part of the EI-series (Economy InterConnection - economical connection). These connectors are used to feed small disk drives and devices, and have the same contacts +12 V, +5 V and ground, as well as a large peripheral connector. Distance between contacts in this type The plugs is 2.5 mm, and the fork itself is about half less than a large connector. All contacts are calculated by 2 and each, so that the maximum power of the current on this connector is only 34 W.

The following table provides configuration of contacts on the power connector of floppy drives:

1 +5 V. Red 3 GND. The black
2 GND. The black 4 +12 V. Yellow

The power connector of the peripheral devices and its younger fellow have a universal contact layout, in what can be seen in the following scheme:

Power connector of peripheral devices and a connector for floppy disk drive

The location of the contacts on the floppy connector is mirror, compared with the large connector for peripheral devices. When using an adapter from one type of connectivity to another, caution should be caution and do not forget that in this case the red and yellow wires are changed in places.

First power supplies Equipped with only two connectors for the periphery, while modern BPs have four or larger connections and one or two connectors for floppy drives. Depending on the power and destination, some of the BP have eight and even more connectors for peripheral devices.

If you use a lot hard disks or other devices needing additional nutrition, you can use a Y-shaped splitter, as well as an adapter with a large connector to small. The splitter allows you to transform one power connector of peripheral devices to connect to it at once two drives, and you can use a large connector to power the floppy disk drive. If you use several adapters, make sure that the total capacity power supply It is sufficient. The connectors connected to the splitter should not exceed the capabilities of one connector.

SERIAL ATA power connector

The overwhelming majority of modern rigid disks and all SSD are equipped with a SATA power connector. So, if a few years ago connectors SATA. The BP was a kind of pleasant option, then on new power blocks they are provided without fail. The SATA power connector (Serial ATA) is a special 15-pin connector that uses only five wires, which means that three contacts on the connector are connected to one wire. The total power supply for such a connector is exactly the same as the conventional peripheral connector, but the SATA cable is noticeably thinner.

SATA power connector

In the SATA power connector, each wire is connected to three contacts, and the numbering of wires does not correspond to the numbering of contacts. If your power supply is not equipped with SATA power connections, you can use an adapter with a conventional connectivity for peripheral devices. However, such adapters do not provide voltage over the line +3.3 V. Fortunately, this is not a problem for most SATA devices, as they do not use the line +3.3 V and use only voltages +12 V and +5 V.

Additional power connector PCI-E video cards

The ATX12V 2.x specification implies the use of a new 24-pin motherboard power connector that provides more energy to power various controllers on the board and pCI cards-E. The specification is calculated for an additional power of 75 W directly for the PCI-E x16 slot and such power, in principle, enough for many video cards with an average performance. But productive graphics cards usually need a higher nutritional level. For this reason, the PCI-SIG development team (Special Interest Group) presented two standards to provide additional power to PCI-E video cards, which involve the use of the following connectors:

 • PCI EXPRESS. X16 Graphics 150 W-ATX - Specification Published in October 2004. An additional 6-pin (2x3) connector is used, which provides an additional power of 75 W. The total power in the PCI-E X16 slot reaches 150 W.
 • PCI EXPRESS 225 W / 300 W HIGH POWER CARD ELECTROMECHANICAL - Specification published in March 2008. It assumes the use of 8-pin (2x4) additional power connections, providing an additional power of 150 W. The total capacity is 225 W (75 + 150) or 300 W (75 + 150 + 75).

Multiple connectors can be connected to video cards requiring even more energy:

PCI-E Power Connectors Configurations
Maximum power Additional configuration. Nutrition
75 W. Not used
150 W. 1 x 6-Pin
225 W. 2 x 6-Pin or 1 x 8-Pin
300 W. 1 x 8-pin + 1 x 6-Pin
375 W. 2 x 8-pin
450 W. 2 x 8-pin + 1 x 6-Pin

Additional PCI EXPRESS cards are provided using 6-pin connectors (2x3) or 8-pin (2x4) Molex mini-fit, equipped with a fork type "Mom", which connects directly to the video card. For reference, these connectors are similar to Molex 39-01-2060 (6-pin) and 39-01-2080 (8-pin), but in both other keys are used to prevent the possibility of their erroneous installation in the +12 connector in the maternal board. The following scheme presents the layout of the connector, including the fork. Pay attention to the "SENSE" signal on PIN 5 - it allows the graphics card to determine if the connector is connected. Without proper power level, the card may turn off or operate in limited functionality mode. Also note that PIN 2 contact is designated in the table as N / C (NO Connection) according to the standard specification, but in most power supplies, apparently, the voltage is also supplied to it +12 V.

Configuration of contacts on the 8-pin PCI-E Power Connector is shown in the diagram below. Pay attention to the presence of additional voltage +12 V on PIN 2 contacts and as many as two SENSE signals along PIN 4 and PIN 6 contacts, which allows the map to determine which connector is connected - 6-pin or 8-pin - or there is no connection.

The design of both connectors provides backward compatibility: PIN connector can be connected to an 8 PIN jack. Thus, if your graphic card has a slot for an 8-pin connector, but the power supply is equipped with only 6 PIN connector, it can be connected to the map, simply shifting the socket, as shown in the figure. The plug has a key design that prevents the installation in incorrect position, but when connecting the connector, excessive effort should be avoided, which can damage the card.

Connecting 6-pin connector to 8 PIN socket on a graphics card

Signal contacts are located in such a way that the video card itself recognizes which type the connector is connected to the nest and, thus, what power is available to it. For example, if the video card is required full of 300 W and it is equipped with two 4 PIN sockets (or 8 PIN + 6 PIN), but you use two six-tie connectors, the card will determine what can only be used 225 W and, depending on the design and firmware, may Or disconnect, or will work in limited functionality mode.

Thanks to the special key on the fork, the 8-pin connector cannot be installed in the 6 PIN socket. For this reason, many manufacturers of power supplies equip their products with forks of type "6 + 2", which allow you to disconnect additional two if necessary, resulting in the usual 6-pin connector instead of 8-pin. Such a connector, of course, will be installed in the 6 PIN slot on the board.

Attention! 8-pin PCI-E card connector and 8-pin EPS12V CPU power connector use close-up Molex MINI-FIT JR fork design These plugs have different keys, but at a certain effort it may turn out to connect the EPS12V connector to the jack on the video card, or vice versa, connect the PCI-E power connector to the EPS12V motherboard jack. In any of these scenarios, the +12 V contact will be connected directly to grounding, which can lead to the failure of the motherboard, video card or power supply.

The 6-pin connector uses two contacts +12 B to provide power up to 75 W, while the 8 PIN connector uses three contacts +12 V, providing up to 150 W. But according to the specification for Molex connectors, such a set of contacts allows you to provide greater power. Each contact on the PCI EXPRESS power connector can keep the current up to 8 A when using standard contacts - or more if the HCS or Plus HCS contacts are applied. If you multiply the limits of the power of contacts by specifications on their number, you can determine the capabilities of keeping the current of certain power:

Maximum current power supply PCI-E card
Type of connector Number of contacts + 12V When using contact contacts When using HCS contacts When using Plus HCS contacts
6-PIN. 2 192 W. 264 W. 288 W.
8-PIN 3 288 W. 396 W. 432 W.

In a 6-axle current connector, the current is designed for two contacts +12 V, although most of the BP have three such contacts.

Standard Molex contacts are designed for current 8 A.

Contacts Molex HCS designed for current 11 A.

Contacts Molex Plus HCS Detached 12 A.

All values are indicated for a bunch of 4-6 contacts Mini-Fit Jr. When using wires of the 18th caliber and standard temperature.

Thus, although according to the specification, the connectors are calculated on the power 75 (6 PIN) and 150 W (8 PIN), when using standard contacts, the power can reach, respectively, 192 and 288 watts. When using HCS and Plus HCS contacts, you can get even greater power.

Two additional power connections, which are speaking, may appear in the documentation under the names of PCI Express Graphics (PEG), Scalable Link Interface (SLI) or Crossfire Power Connectors, as they are used by productive graphic cards from pCI-E interface X16, which can work in SLI or CrossFire bundle. SLI and CrossFire are the modes of using NVIDIA and AMD cards that allow you to combine cards into bundles using the computational resources of each of them to increase the performance of the graphics subsystem. Each card can consume hundreds of watts, so many Hi-End video cards have two or three additional power connections. This means most powerful

It costs more than 100 rubles, while the Molex 4 Pin Male splitter ( photo) on 2x. 4 PIN FEMALE (AT The Power Supply Cable) (photo) - 50 rubles, I decided to go in advance to the market conditions and make it from the remedies. Moreover, 20-pin forks From which you can make a 6-pin, exist in old ATX-blocks that are no longer suitable for working with modern computers.

The difference in the design of the connector 6 PIN and 20 PIN, if you look at, lies in the fact that pins with chamfer with chams and without them (photo and drawing). There is a combination of 2 beams in one middle vertical row.

However, the necessary beveled chamfer is easy to make a blade or a construction knife, since the material of the connector is polyethylene. For the source material of the 6-pin connector, it is well suited, for example, the edge of a 20-pin, which contains multi-colored wires: white, gray, lilac and others. Choose it with such a calculation so that on the middle pin it is easy to make the knife edge of the 2 chamfer. Insertively cut and the middle of the connector with a latch, however, it will be a bit not in the place, in which there is a return wedge (see fig. On how to make another 6-pin connector from the remaining piece of 20-pin connector).

The abnormal part of the adapter (4 PIN MOLEX MALE) can be found in the diet for any fans or in the same 1x2 splitter. The wires are soldered and insulated to the desired contact wires or crimped the metal from the contact connector. You can directly connect the 6 PIN connector to the power unit, if it is not supposed to do an adapter.

Cropped up 6 pins from a 20-pin connector comfortably with a metal or with the same building knife. So that the plastic wall is preserved on the segment we need. At the same time, do not regret the holes of the 4th with the edge of the pins of the pins, although you can sprink down so as not to damage the wires located there.

After sawing and cutting the chamfer, the connector is already ready for operation, it will only be left to solder the necessary wires to the 4-pin Molex MALE connector to the ground and to 12 volts (yellow wire). But you can make it more beautiful, rearing the wires of one color to the same contact rates (photo) (3 long-distance fees - to GND, 3 close to + 12V). Remove the contact with the wire from the socket will help a thin flexible needle. We run the end of the needle a small "stick" so that turning it around your axis, click on the protruding wedge of contact and adjust it to inside. Such wedges are on contact two from the opposite sides, so the operation on the pressing of the wedges should be done twice. After that, contact is possible to pull out the wire connector. The figure shows the direction of pressure on the wedges in the contact of the connector.

After pulling out the wires of the desired color of the wedges in the contacts again lay (Fig.)

... and carefully check the accuracy of the installation into the place you need. If we make a mistake with the connection, at best we are waiting for the triggering of the power supply unit for a short circuit, and at worst, when confused by polarity, the failure of the video card. So, the black wires are placed on the contacts of the Earth (GND), and another color (better than yellow (12 V), but more of all red wires, from 5 volts) - 12 volts on contacts.

Black wires We connect to the average contacts of the 4 PIN MOLEX connector, and the 3 others - to the yellow wires of the 12 volt source. Do I need to install 2 Molex connectors? It is useful if the video card will consume a lot. In general, the outlets of 12 volts are often combined in the power supply, so the video card power from one source will not differ from the power from 2 sources of current. Before soldering or assembling it is useful to make sure that you install contacts in the correct sockets.

Adapter assembled, wires and power connections from the old power supply helped new system block Perform your functions. The cost of the source materials will not exceed 100 rubles, even if they are taken "on the layer" a working low-power unit from computers with Pentium II. Time will take from half an hour to an hour, depending on the skill and the preparedness of the workplace.

By the way, this is not an invention of today. In the network already you can find instructions with an idea of using It is this part of the 20-pin connector (in English).

Discussion and comments are made .

Video adapters are one of the main components of the computer. Every year they are becoming more productive and require an additional source of energy, since the tasks imposed on them are no longer a corresponding drawing of one 8-bit pictures, but a complicated 3D rendering. So what type of video cards exist and in what cases it is necessary?

Varieties of video cards

Depending on the adapters consume a different amount of electricity. In the older models, it was not required to have additional video cards, since 75 W from the PCI slot itself was enough, and where passive cooling was used and half of this power was used.

Energy consumed almost completely depends on the type of graphics processor and the cooling system. She may be:

 1. Active - on simple coolers (1, 2 or 3 fans) and water, where liquid is used for cooling.
 2. Passive - one large volume radiator is used without any electronics. There are separate versions of fairly productive video cards with such a type of cooling. But, as practice shows, such a decision can not always cope with the assigned tasks.

How does the video card feed on?

Food of modern video cards are carried out in three ways:

 • Via PCI slot. Maximum power consumption 75 W.
 • 6 PIN connector. Additional 75 watts.
 • Pin connector 8. Additionally before

In this case, all three types of video cards can be combined or have two 6/8 PIN connections. It is necessary to power the boards with a power of over 250-300 W for stable their work or for video cards with several graphics processorsthat should receive energy over individual channels.

In addition to powerful flagship video cards, with powered by a nuclear reactor, adapters are found, on which there is the possibility of using only PCI slots to obtain all the necessary energy. Usually, such a type of connection is used by low-power and old video cards.

If someone wondered - what a video card to choose, then the answer is simple: the presence of an additional connector is present only where it is necessary. A more powerful map will always consume more energy from additional sources.

It is possible when video adapters will become multi-core or the number of processors will increase, they will get even more powerful additional food, or acquire their own BP, but now it is enough 6/8 of the contact connector.

SLI, CrossFire and electricity bills

Installing multiple video cards into one system is a fairly common solution for improving performance, especially in cases where the second video card gets conditionally free. NVIDIA and Radeon have multiple video cards support the parallel operation technology called SLI and CrossFire. So you can associate several video cards into one powerful computing system.

The problem is that video cards are powered into continuous consumption of a huge amount of energy. Well, if your block is able to cope with it and it will even have enough connectors - you do not have to buy a new one.

Some craftsmen went even further - they set several low-power BP into one system. This solution helps to distribute the load into two blocks, make the assembly less loaded and even reduce the noise. True, this decision has some problems associated with the synchronism of the launch.

Connecting additional nutrition

Most modern power supplies have built-in outputs for GPU and CPU 8 PIN. They are very similar among themselves, but they have a distinctive pinout from each other.

Usually, the adapter is supplied for the adapter's additional power socket. It is a branching of 6/8 PIN contacts by two peaks. What, in principle, it will be enough when using two channels of 12 V. If there was no adapter in the set, then it can be purchased separately literally for a penny.

Of course, food through connectors not intended to issue such power often leads to their burning and even failure, like the entire power supply. Therefore, it will be desirable to acquire a new BP with a power sufficient for the normal functioning of all components.

Emergency power connection

Sometimes, buying a used video card, you can not detect an adapter to 8 PIN. How to connect the power of video cards in this case? You can try to make a plug into two remaining pins. To do this will need old plug ATX, CPU or GPU 6 PIN power supply. The pinout contacts is as follows.

In the connectors of 8 PIN, the difference consists of two GND contacts. If you try to run the technique with 8 PIN from the 6 PIN connector, then you will get an error about insufficient diet of the video card, and, accordingly, the failure in startup.

Contacts No. 4 and 6 are not only GND, but also alarm, which means boldly powered either from another source (as an option - max-connector) or simply duplicate the GND channel from the already connected 6-pin connector, as in factory adapters. In theory, you can just stick the jumper between the contacts from a reliable wire, but it looks not very, stable contact is difficult to achieve.

It is important to remember that each plug has its own keys to prevent connection to other connectors. Therefore, you need to cut only those parts that exactly fit to the nest.

Connecting the video card power in this way can help if you really understand the essence of what is happening and all possible risks. Yes I. long work At such "crutches" is unlikely to be provided.

Power block selection

Power supplies are classified mainly by power. In the past times, a rather productive computer was enough and 300 W consumed energy. Now, one top card can consume such an amount of energy, and if two or worse than three are installed, let it even be not the most demanding?

BP with connector for video cards began to release immediately with the output of the first video adapters that require additional nutrition. In some power blocks, you can meet connectors directly with adapters from 6 to 8 pin, in which 2 pins are simply unfastened.

For a successful selection of the power supply for a video card, it will be advisable to use special calculators, which are quite a lot on the network. It is necessary to simply enter the names of the components and the recommended power will be automatically selected. If you plan in the future upgrades or you want more quiet workIt is worth choosing a BP with a slightly high power - 100-150 W.

Good day! In this publication, we will look at different types Connectors that serve to power. It is necessary to take this issue as carefully as possible, because errors can end up at best short circuit, and in the worst fire and loss of equipment.

In the process of writing the article, I applied to various sources, ranging from Wikipedia, and ending with English-language specifications for each type of power connector. This allowed me to draw up a table with an indication of power constraints, which will allow you to avoid the use of dangerous adapters and splitters. The article will not be excessive "water", just what everyone needs to know.

Maximum allowable power

To begin with, let's remember physics lessons from the school program. There was such a formula there:

P = I * U

The power is indicated by the letter P, is measured in watts (W). The strength of the current is denoted by the letter I, is measured in amperes (a). The voltage is indicated by the letter U, is measured in volts (B). I will use this formula for all calculations in this material.

When in the article I will talk about the maximum permissible power - it should be understood as a restriction of the power connector developers. On thematic forums, you can often find messages from the series "I connected through one PCI-E a bunch of video cards and everything is good." With high-quality materials, indeed, such a configuration can work for a while if the author of the message is a lover of acute sensations. With poor-quality materials, problems may occur even before the maximum current allowed by standards will flow through the adapter.

Also stand right to determine the terms. Power connection is a pair device connection, that is, consisting of two parts. These parts in the documentation and in conversational speech can wear different name. The rosette, as a rule, is located on the device (if it does not go about adapters, extension cords, etc.). It can be called: socket, female, "mother", connector, nest. The fork part, as a rule, is located on the end of the cable and is called: fork, male, "dad", plug, connector. All these names are widespread and have the right to life. In this article I will use the name "Connector" and "connector".

Connectors and power connectors

Now let's talk about connectors that can be detected on a modern power supply.

Power supply connector (ATX-connector)

There are 20-pin and 24-pin motherboard power connectors. In farms, 24-pin are used, but for compatibility with older motherners, four extreme contacts are often made removing. The type of power connector on the motherboard should correspond to the type of power supply connector.

Power supply connector

With regard to the mining about this connector, it can be noted that four additional contacts just serve to power the PCI-Express devices, they provide power up to 75 watts.

CPU power connector

There are 4-pin and 8-pin connectors. It is easy to see from the scheme below that the 8-pin is two 4-pin, located nearby. Often 8-pin make composite, by analogy with the motherboard power connector.

CPU power connector

On the power blocks, the processor power connector is located on a separate line. Sometimes 8-pin (inseparable) and 4-pin is also located on this line at the same time. One of them is connected to the motherboard.

PCI-E Connector

It is this connector that is for powering video cards, often manufacturers of power supplies make them red (and some blue) colors, there are 6-pin and 8-pin. In modern power supplies, the 8-pin can be composite, just like the connectors described earlier.

Power connector Video card

The PCI-E connector is the most popular in Mining. Its purpose is an additional meal of devices (video cards, in our case) connected to the PCI-Express Tire of the motherboard. According to specifications, the 6-pin provides 75 watts of additional nutrition, and the 8-pin is 150 watts. At the same time, another 75 watt video card receives from the motherboard (or from the riser).

Course on video cards for mining:

A multiple connectors may be on the video card. For example, you can take video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX. 980 Ti, its limit power consumption, if you believe manufacturers, 250 watts. Of these, 75 watts device receives from the motherboard, and there are still connectors at least 175 watts. One 6-pin little (up to 75 watts), one 8-pin or two 6-pin (up to 150 watts) - too. One 6-pin and one 8-pin (total up to 225 watts) is required. We look at the picture below - it is, everything is correct.

Power connectors on the video card

Connector Molex

Initially, this connector was designed to power hard drives and drives, however, for modern devices, SATA connectors are performed for modern devices (about them below), and Molex serve to power various additional equipment.

Connector Molex

The advantage of Molex is the presence of simultaneously lines by 5 and by 12 volts, and for each line there may be a current to 11 amps, that is, the power of a 12-volt line 132 watt, and 5-volt - 55 watts. Often on the Internet you can find information that Molex provides a power of 187 watts. This is true, but the internet connector video card has only 12 volts lines, and the 5 volt line is not activated. In the mining farms, Molex connectors are used to connect the risers, cooling fans, the supplemental nutrition of the motherboard and as a replacement of the missing PCI-E connector.

With the use of Molex, many adapters are invented. And some of them carry a real threat to fire!

The top of the most fire-hazard adapters is headed by the Molex-> 8-pin PCI-E. The strength consumption of the video card according to the 8-pin connector, as I have already noted above, up to 150 watts. Molex is designed for 132 watts.

Do not use video cards through Molex-> 8-pin PCI-E

With caution, the Molex-> 6-pin PCI-E and 2XMOLEX-> 8-pin PCI-E should be used. In terms of power there is no excess, but do not relax. Adapter manufacturers often use low-quality materials - thin wires, cheap plastic, unreliable metal parts. It may also lead to fire. After installing such connectors, regularly monitor their condition.

To burn equipment due to adapters - do you need it?!

The most secure option is 2xmolex-> 6-pin PCI-E adapters. A good power supply allows you to avoid fire due to overheating, but there is still a danger of problems due to poor contact, with the result that this adapter will actually turn into 1xmolex-> 6-pin PCI-E, and this is the first step to big problems.

Relatively safe adapter

It is advisable to avoid using Molex adapters to connect video cards. However, molex connectors can be relatively safe to power the risers (remind, their consumption is no more than 75 watts), including the help of adapters.

Connector SATA.

Like Molex, this connector is designed to connect hard drives and drives.

Connector SATA.

From the scheme it is clear that the connector has three contacts by 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V. According to the specification, each connector is designed for the maximum current of 1.5 A. Thus, the total power of the lines of 3.3 V is a non-small 15 watts, Lines 5 V - 22.5 watts, and lines 12 V - 54 watts. Thus, the maximum power of the line 12 V in this connector is three times less than that of Molex. And the line 5 V is twice as smaller.

That is, you cannot use SATA-> Molex connectors for powering devices that consume more than 50 watts.

Dangerous! SATA-> Molex

Connector for FLOPPY Disc

This "dinosaur" is the power connector for the floppy drive. It is also called mini-molex.

Fuel Connector for Floppy

It has lines 5 V and 12 V, for each of which the maximum current 2 A, that is, the maximum permissible power of 10 watts and 24 watts, respectively. This is enough except for just a cooling fan.

Final numbers

To be clearer, imagine the values of the maximum allowable power consumption over the lines with different voltage in the form of a table.

Table 1

The following table is the maximum power consumption of connectors on various devicesthat can be part of the farm for mining.

table 2

The obtained tables will allow you to determine which adapters and for what purposes are safe, and which are not. For example:

 • One 8-pin PCI-E to power the video card (150 watts are required over a line 12 volts, Table 2) can be connected from two 6-pin PCI-E (summarizes 150 watts along line 12 volts, Table 1);
 • Two 6-pin PCI-Es to power the video card (a total of 150 watts are required over a line 12 volts, Table 2) can be connected from one 8-pin PCI-E (gives 150 watts along line 12 volts, Table 1).
 • One 6-pin PCI-E to power the video card (75 watts required along line 12 volts, Table 2) can be connected from one molex (providing 132 watts along line 12, Table 1), but better from two, given the low quality of such Adapters.
 • One 6-pin PCI-E to power the area (75 watts are required over a 12 volt line, Table 2) can be connected from one molex (provides 132 watts along line 12, Table 1).
 • Two risers with any connectors (require a total of 150 watts) can be connected from one 8-pin PCI-E.

I brought these examples. But do not forget that in this case a lot depends on the quality of the materials from which they are made. If possible, try to avoid using.
