Conclusions of the article

Movavi Video Suite is designed to work with video, audio and images. This is a powerful application with simple controls, with wide functionality.

During my many years of work as a technical journalist in the video sphere, I have countless times had to find software tools necessary to solve new and different problems. Be it video capture with support for non-standard sources, or quick conversion from format to format, preferably from the context menu, or simple editing/trimming of short videos, creating slideshows from photos and much more. But the search for the ideal program is overshadowed by the fact that most applications do not fully meet the main requirement: a tool for everyday work should be as simple, convenient, or, to put it clichely, as “intuitive.” For occasional use, you do not need to delve into the study of the theory and peculiarities of the processes, memorize keyboard shortcuts and other specific tricks, distracting from the main task. After all, it's just a tool.

Other requirements for ideal software are secondary in importance, but it will still be better if the program also complies with them: support for any formats and the ability to work on different computer platforms and configurations. Ideally, I would like to see a universal, multi-tasking tool that will help in any situations that arise during the work process. A sort of combine. Simple, similar to Windows Notepad, only designed to work not with text, but with video.

Of course, similar software has existed for a long time, and far from being the only version. Many well-known developers write highly functional software to work with different types digital content. One of the notable representatives of such developers can be called, which has been producing amateur multimedia packages with affordable user interface. Depending on the goals and objectives, these packages are available both as separate programs and as a collection organized under a single shell - Movavi VideoSuite.

As you can see, this collection includes software that fully satisfies any media needs of any user. But we will limit ourselves to describing only those applications that provide video processing.

Movavi Video Editor Plus

As already mentioned, Movavi developers make sure that every untrained amateur can use their programs. And since any beginner naturally becomes a competent user after some time, this video editor provides two difficulty levels: advanced and simplified.

Despite its name, the so-called advanced, in-depth mode is clear at first glance. You can import video that needs to be processed by simply dragging and dropping from the Explorer window, or using the built-in import tools, including screen capture, video recording from a connected webcam, or other digital device, which transmits a video stream. From here, voice recording is made from a microphone connected to the PC for dubbing the edited film.

The next parameter can be called fundamental. This is probably the only case when extreme attention and accuracy are required from the user. We're talking about project settings. These settings consist of the main parameters for video processing: frame size and frame rate. Ideally, the size and frequency of the project should correspond to the parameters of the video being processed (edited). By default, the program creates an empty project with a frame size of 1920x1080 and a frame rate of 29.976 frames per second (this frequency corresponds to the NTSC TV standard adopted in Japan and the United States). But video cameras and cameras sold in Europe and in our country are, as a rule, configured for a different TV system, PAL. The frequency is a multiple of 25, not 30, as in NTSC. Eliminating this discrepancy - if it exists - is simply necessary. The same applies to the frame size, it must match. All of the above should be done not out of the author’s whim, but to maintain maximum quality, as well as to facilitate the work of the program, which will not have to once again recalculate the size and frame rate.

After the user has imported the video, placed it on the timeline and figured out the project settings, he is free to do whatever he wants: rearrange the videos in places to get the best storyboard, trim the beginning and end of takes, add colorful or modest clips at the junctions (which welcome) transitions, overlaying an additional video track, titles and others on top of the main video graphic objects, including animated ones.

As in “adult” video editors, the timeline here is the most important tool. It is here that the vast majority of operations are performed. Separately, I would like to point out a serious circumstance that for some reason all beginners neglect: context menu. We must not forget about the presence of this list, which pops up when you right-click. In any difficulty, the first thing to do is press the right button. The list of commands that appears completely outlines the range of available operations; all that remains is to select the one you need.

For example, if you need to stabilize a video shot handheld or while walking, then you need to select the appropriate tool for the task Stabilization. With this command, the program will launch a special built-in module, where you can use the settings to increase or decrease the degree of motion smoothing.

However, the factory settings set by default in the program are adjusted in such a way as to optimally smooth out shaking in most shootings performed in a wide variety of conditions. Taking the first handheld shot we came across, we started stabilization without changing a single parameter. However, the result of motion analysis followed by smoothing turned out to be excellent! The resulting difference can be seen in the following video, where you didn’t even have to indicate the location of the original and stabilized video. The difference is visible even without prompting.

Unlike such a complex procedure as stabilization (difficult for the program, but not for the user), other effects and filters applied to the processed video work in real time, without requiring preliminary calculation. Just select from the effects box required filter, drag it onto the clip with the mouse and the picture in the window will be transformed in accordance with the effect. Add highlights, vignettes, colorize or posterize the picture, fill with moving objects, exclude the selected color range (this process is called keying), close part of the frame from the viewer (face, car number etc.), speed up or slow down movement - these and many other operations are visual, performed with the mouse.

Many filters have their own additional settings. For example, animation - moving, resizing, rotating - graphic content is performed using key points that are created in a special module. These key points are subsequently displayed directly on the clip or title and are always available for re-editing.

Special attention in the program is paid to working with sound. Built-in tools allow you to normalize (even out) the volume of an audio track, edit frequency characteristics using an equalizer, remove noise, distort a voice, add musical accompaniment or the announcer's voice. You can even start automatic recognition of beats (the tempo of the musical accompaniment), which is useful when creating a dynamic video. The program, having quickly analyzed the audio sequence, determines the rhythm of the music and puts the appropriate marks on the top of the timeline. Now you can trim clips using these marks.

Upon completion of the work, the user needs to focus his attention once again: the project will be exported into a finished film. This process in the program is called Preservation. The software module that is responsible for export offers a variety of formats and ready-made presets to choose from. It’s difficult to make a mistake here, since the built-in templates are already pre-configured in accordance with the capabilities of the devices on which the movie is supposed to be viewed.

If you plan to upload the material to YouTube, then the task is simplified to the limit: you just need to enter your account information in the program, and the video, after processing, will automatically appear on the user’s channel.

In conclusion, let’s imagine that a user who is planning to edit a film does not want to waste time on even such a simple editing provided by the program. It is for such cases that the program developer has provided a second operating mode for the application, Simple. By selecting this mode, the user will be taken to step by step wizard automatic movie creation. The first stage is to fill the project with material - videos, photographs. Any file included in the collection is immediately analyzed by the program, which may take some time.

The next step is musical accompaniment. Here it is enough to select one of the music templates built into the program, which are divided into styles. However, if you overcome laziness, you can import your own composition, which seems most suitable. By the way, any imported audio is also analyzed by the program in order to search for bits for subsequent clip editing.

Third tab View allows you not only to view an already created film, but also to somehow participate in its design. Here you can increase or decrease the duration of the final clip, as well as change the relative volume levels of the video audio and music.

That's it, the clip is ready! Although, in fact, it was created at the time of importing the video material, when the program analyzed the videos. By changing the duration of a video using the slider, the user only forces the program to exclude some material: the shorter the duration of the clip, the fewer videos are involved in it and the shorter the edited segments. And to verify the editing skills of the automation, you can immediately launch a preview of the prepared clip.

Not bad for a project done automatically! At least the rhythm is consistent. Also, as far as the author can judge, the program did not include clearly unsuccessful moments in the final video - episodes with strong shaking and other shortcomings of amateur filming. It is hardly necessary to expect even more from the program.

We have already become familiar with the last stage - this is a standard export to a video file or upload to YouTube. The list of proposed formats is no different from a similar tool present in a full-fledged video editor.

However, the resulting video is clearly missing something. Well, of course, credits! And perhaps also transitions and other effects. It's not too late to add them, since the result is saved not only as a clip, but also in the form of a regular project. In order to transfer an automatically created project to a video editor, instead of saving to a file, you need to select another option, the name of which is too obvious to be mistaken.

Here it is, the result of automatic editing, ready for additional editing. The main work - cutting to the rhythm of the music - has already been done by the program, and the person gets the opportunity to color the result to his liking.

Converter

This program, like those that will be discussed below, is, in fact, one of the modules of the video editor just discussed. The main difference from the editing program is that the converter does not have a timeline on which the media content is placed. It is impossible to create a multi-track composition using the converter. Here you can only process one or more video files with the ability to “glue them together” into one video and add one or more filters and then save them in any format.

Like a video editor, this tool for transcoding media material created for novice users. And to speed up work (the tool should always be at hand), the program can be integrated into the context menu. Now, when you need to quickly transcode or otherwise process a video file, just click on it right click mouse and select an item with a recognizable icon.

The application window that opens will already contain the just selected file, and if the default format and other settings suit the user, all he has to do is click the button Start. But we won’t rush into recoding, because the program offers many more functions. For example, if you add one or more videos to your file collection, you will be able to combine them into one video. And pressing a button Tools will open a window with a selection of operations that we are already familiar with from a full-fledged video editor: Stabilization, Cropping, Correction, Turn and other tools. In the same editing window, the clip is trimmed and the sound is partially processed - changing the volume level, normalizing and noise reduction. It is noteworthy that the selected effects can be applied to all clips located in the collection of files awaiting transcoding.

Selecting the format for saving is done in the same way as in the export module of the video editor. The program can create files in almost all formats existing today, including the most modern HEVC (H.265) and Webm VP9. But the program is not limited to ready-made presets - the user can enter his frame sizes into the service fields and select the frequency he needs.

The encoding speed directly depends on the number of filters and effects added to the clips, as well as on the user’s availability of equipment that the program supports. So, for coding, in addition to central processor, the hardware power of NVIDIA or Intel graphics accelerators can be used.

Another “secret” mode, the existence of which only experienced users know, is unique in that it allows you to process video almost at the speed of normal copying. When working in this mode, the program does not perform any transcoding - it is only busy repackaging the video stream from one container to another. However, this mode is not supported in every case and not with all codecs. A distinctive feature of the format in which it is possible to create a video without recoding is a special icon with the signature Super Speed: .

Thus, with the help of this copying (it’s hard to call it recoding), it becomes possible to glue several video files of the same format into a single video without recoding all the material.

Another extremely useful function that the encoder is equipped with is the ability to track a given folder on your hard drive or in local network for the appearance of files in it that need processing. As soon as any video gets into the directory controlled by the program, it will immediately be re-encoded or repackaged in accordance with the specified parameters.

This function not only simplifies and speeds up everyday work, but completely excludes the user from the technological chain of material transcoding. Auto-conversion can be an indispensable assistant in the process of collaboration, when processing large volumes of material, in video surveillance and other scenarios.

In conclusion, we note the presence in the program of such a mandatory function for amateur use as automatic hibernation or turning off the computer upon completion of the current task. If the file that needs to be transcoded is large and processing threatens to take a long time, the user can safely activate the auto-shutdown function and go about his other business with peace of mind - the computer, having finished rendering, will not hum with its fans in vain, but will fall asleep on its own or will turn off.

Screen Recorder Movavi

Screen capture is another frequently encountered task. And it causes an impressive number of problems. The fact is that each program designed to record what is happening on your monitor has its own, often unpredictable, habits. Of course, you can do without “extra” software, and if you have a modern NVIDIA video cards just press Alt+F9 to record the screen using the graphics accelerator. But alas, the video card can only record the entire screen area, while the user only needs to capture a certain region. Moreover, the graphics accelerator will not provide the flexible capabilities that any software “grabber” has. After all, what to do if there is no powerful accelerator at all?

The screen capture module built into the Movavi Video Suite package boasts a large number of settings, including selecting audio quality, frame rate in video recording, customizing visual accompaniment of keystrokes during capture, inserting live video from a webcam and additional sound from a microphone, limiting the time of continuous recording and many other important parameters.

The region that needs to be captured is outlined with the mouse or selected from a drop-down menu. Now you can start recording a video tutorial, demonstration of the operation of an application or gameplay.

The recorded video is encoded into the H.264 codec and packed into a *.mkv container, but if necessary, it can be easily recoded or repackaged in the window that opens after capture into any other format. In the same window, you can trim the captured video, removing unnecessary pauses or bad moments. By the way, if the captured video requires deeper processing, then the user has a button Open in editor, clicking which will launch that full-fledged editing package.

Video cutting

In conclusion, let's look at one inconspicuous, modest module from the software package in question, the name of which fully reveals its functionality. This is a seemingly ordinary cutter, all of whose functionality boils down to the trivial cutting of imported video files into pieces. There can be as many cutting parts as you like, and you can save the fragments as in separate files, and connect them by skipping the cut frames.

H.264 H.265

It would seem, what is special about this program to describe its existence in such detail? Just think, banal cutting by key frames and then packing the pieces into a suitable container.

Not so! Of the entire Movavi software package reviewed, this tool is perhaps the most popular and in many ways even unique. At least for the author of these lines. After all, almost every day we had to search for an application that would be able to divide another rare video format into parts of the specified duration. Applications that are considered universal, including free ones, often give in to many video recordings made, for example, by surveillance cameras and other “non-standard” devices. There is something in these files that programs will definitely not like: a variable frame rate, or an “extra” stream of subtitles in a format unknown to the program, or even an “incorrect” audio format.

Unlike them, the Movavi cutter is not capricious, but obediently opens and cuts files, even if they contain specific content. It appears to simply ignore additional service streams that do not meet the standards and work only with content that it knows. Another important detail: the program does not require preliminary indexing of video files, no matter what format they are - any video opens almost instantly. Attempts to get an error on some formats, crash the program or make it freeze did not lead to success. The cutter opens and processes any “ancient” formats like *.flv in Sorenson Spark, RealVideo *.rmvb with Cooker sound (who remembers about it? How can anyone remember that?), not to mention banal DVDs, Xvid, without hesitation. MOV and even WMV. The app handles modern codecs just as well, including 10-bit 4K frame size streams compressed in HEVC (a la Ultra HD Blu-ray). It's hard to find an app that does this kind of omnivorous work, if at all possible.

The developer's statements, especially bold ones, should always be questioned; this is the basic rule of a literate consumer. But there is a second rule - do not limit yourself to doubt, check. However, we have already checked. As a result of the inspection, the skepticism on duty did not have time to bloom and withered away in its bud. All the qualities declared by the developers turned out to be in the right places: friendly interface, smart automation, support for any formats, versatility, reliability and speed. Just what an amateur needs to pursue his hobby.

Movavi Video Editor is a video editor that is great for working with simple projects. Unlike its competitors, it is much easier to use, since due to the lack of complex tool sets, its interface is free of unnecessary information. In addition, it has a simple interface. But despite this, some users experience difficulties when working with the program. This article will tell you how to use Movavi Video Editor.

Adding files

And we will start the article with the most important thing - by adding files to the program for subsequent work with them. Let's proceed directly to the first step of the instructions on how to use the Movavi video editor.

  1. Launch the application. After this, you will immediately be taken to the “Import” tab.
  2. Click on the "Add Files" button.
  3. In the Explorer window that appears, go to the folder with the required files, select them and click the Open button.
  4. After this, the file will be added to the video editor. If you want to open all the files in a folder at once, then click the “Add Folder” button.
  5. You can also record video from your computer camera by clicking “Record Video.”
  6. It is also possible to record video from the monitor screen; accordingly, to do this you need to click the “Screen Capture” button.

The selected files will be added to the library. To work with them, you need to drag them onto the timeline - the track that is located at the bottom of the program.

Filters

Continuing the guide on how to use Movavi Video Editor, let's move on to working with filters.

  1. Enter the corresponding menu. To do this, click on the “Filters” button on the left panel, displayed in the form of a magic wand.
  2. Filters divided by category will appear on the right. If you wish, you can select "All" to display a full list of them.
  3. In order to apply a filter to a video clip, you just need to left-click on the desired one and, while holding it, drag it onto the video track.
  4. If you need to add a filter to all clips, then right-click on it and select the appropriate item.
  5. To remove an applied filter, you need to click on the star button on the clip. After this, a menu will appear in which you need to indicate which filter you want to remove.

That's how easy it is to work with filters. Having dealt with this, you can move on to the next step of the instructions - how to use Movavi Video Suite.

Transition Effects

When working in a video editor, most often there is a need to stitch together one video from different cuts. To make transitions look more natural, special effects called transition effects are applied to them. Let's look at how to use this tool in the program.

  1. In the sidebar, go to the desired menu. It is located third from the top: an icon depicting two frames put together like a puzzle.
  2. As with filters, transitions will appear on the right.
  3. To add them to a track, you just need to drag the transition you like onto the video, after holding LMB on it.
  4. A transition icon will appear between the two cuts. To remove it, you need to right-click on it and select the appropriate item.
  5. Also in the menu you can select the “Properties” item, when you click on it, an additional window will open. Here you can increase or decrease the duration of the transition.

Now you know how to apply transition effects to clip cuts. But this is not the last point in the instructions on how to use the Movavi program.

Text overlay

Often when working with video there is a need to overlay text. This can be done in the Movavi video editor.

  1. In the sidebar, you first need to go to the “Credits” section. This is the fourth icon from the top and has a large T on it.
  2. A menu will appear on the right where you can select the title style you like. They are, as in previous cases, divided into categories.
  3. Once you decide on the style of the text overlay, drag the appropriate icon onto the video track. This is done by simply dragging and dropping.
  4. Please note that if you want to install captions after or before a video clip, then it must be dragged directly onto the same track on which the recording is located. And if you need to overdub them, then move them to another track higher up.
  5. You can also change how long the credits appear and when they appear and disappear. So, for normal movement, hold down LMB on a text passage and, moving the cursor, drag it to the desired location. If you want to change its duration, hold LMB on one of the edges of the text track.
  6. By right-clicking on the titles in the timeline, you can select the “Edit” option. After this, a window will appear in which you can set the main parameters for displaying text: its location, color, size, and so on.

Text is a very important element in video production, but not the last. Let's move on to the next step of the guide on how to use Movavi.

Applying Shapes

If you decide, for example, to record a video in which you instruct users on how to perform some action, then most likely you will need to overlay various shapes (for example, rectangles, arrows or circles) on the recording. Let's look at how to do this:

  1. On the already familiar sidebar, go to the corresponding section, it is located fifth in a row: icon geometric shapes.
  2. The shapes themselves will appear on the right side of the panel.
  3. To add what you need to a video, you need to drag it onto the video track below. Please note that to add on top of the video, you must move the selected shape to the appropriate area of the track. And to display before or after recording - on the track itself.

Otherwise, all the actions are clear: to delete or edit you need to right-click on the shapes and select the appropriate item.

Now let's move on to the most important point of the instructions on how to use Movavi Video Editor.

Saving a recording

Now you know how to use Movavi. But that is not all. After all, the created video must be downloaded as a separate video file to your computer. Oddly enough, this also becomes a problem for many users. Therefore, we will consider all the actions in detail:

  1. At the very bottom of the program window, click on the pencil-shaped button.
  2. The Project Setup window appears. In it you can set all the necessary parameters of the output video: resolution, frame rate, sample rate, placement in the frame and audio channels.
  3. After specifying all the required parameters, click the “OK” button.
  4. After closing this window, you can proceed directly to saving the file. To do this, click the button of the same name located in the lower left part of the window.
  5. An additional window will appear in which you also need to set some video upload parameters. After completing all the steps, click the “Start” button.

After this, a window will appear showing the progress of saving the video. It can last quite a long time, it all depends on the length of the video itself and the number of effects applied to it. At the end, a window will appear in which all you have to do is click the “OK” button.

Conclusion

So we figured out how to use Movavi. As you can see, this program has many functions, and of course, it is difficult to list everything in one article. We tried to highlight the most important ones, which are most often used by users.

How to add sound to a video or slide show.

Slideshows are often made with soundtrack. To add soundtrack– click “Import” -> “Add media file” -> Move the downloaded mp3 to the timeline. Everything is similar to adding a photo to the editor.

How to trim a video

Above the timeline you see 2 scissor icons.

The icon located to the left sets the separator in the desired place in the video. This divider divides the video into several parts. Select the unnecessary part and press Delete.

Double scissors will allow you to create video. This icon is called by a special module “ Split Movie”.

How to stitch videos in Movavi

This is also called editing. Add several videos to the program: Import -> Add media file -> move to the timeline. Determine the transition between two videos or lack thereof.

Note. A transition can be added not only between different parts of the video, but also in the middle of the entire video. First you need to break it into two parts using scissors, and insert a transition at the splitting point.

Recording a video lesson

If you decide to try yourself as a video blogger, then you need to be able to record yourself from a webcam or record video from a monitor screen. All this can be done using Movavi Video Editor.

Go to the “Import” tab and click on the “Video Capture” icon

Select the capture area, video capture device (if you select a webcam, you will record yourself, if Behold TV, then the screen). Select a folder to save the video and click on the “Start Recording” button.
