And the funniest thing is that this paired product still appears, despite how long the time period after the original turns out to be.
At the end of 2007, a thin candy bar was announced, and only in the fall of 2008, its analogue with the T700 index appears. Not only does it appear 10 months apart, it lacks those advantages, there is no cover glass for the W890i screen, there is no zest in the design, but the positioning is somewhere in the middle price segment. The confusion comes out with these indices and what lies behind them, which means it's time to put your thoughts aside to the end of the review, and now decide on something small, or rather, the appearance of the Sony Ericsson T700.
Two years ago, the February exhibition of mobile technologies showed the world a thin musical product Sony Ericsson AI, namely, in which the thickness of the case seemed to be minimal, and the filling was maximal. It's funny, but then the phone seemed tiny, and its facets did not inspire any negative thoughts. But a year passed, and the W890i came out, where they cut all the edges, made an aluminum case, achieved an ultra-light weight, and for the final touch, the main problems of its predecessor were fixed. It turned out to be a "candy", to which the price range was also adequately knocked down to the output cost of the W880i. Everything looked great, but the demand for the new product was lower than expected, and many called anything but the price the reason for the modest sales. And now, more than half a year has passed since the T700 appears on the market, in which Sony Ericsson has retained almost all the features of the W890i, and at the same time got even with the upper price range. And this despite the fact that the company's management continues to press on the brand's marginality, thanks to which the price range of 20-30 thousand rubles was opened in the Russian market. It's strange how the T700 index fits in this situation with positioning one step lower than the T650i, and does it fit anywhere at all, taking into account the change in the concept of indexes a year ago.
So, we are dealing with a small candy bar, whose dimensions will no longer surprise anyone except the stubborn owner and others like him, but for the rest, the ratio of 103.7 x 47.3 x 10 mm will seem compact, but by no means minimal.
And the point is not only in the familiarity of the shapes, since in the design of the T700 the emphasis is placed on the rounding of the left and right ends, as well as an even rectangular shape without bends. In the hand, the phone is no better, but no worse than the W890i, but the reason is the aluminum design of most of the body, while the plastic is assigned to the lower part of the body, which occupies a little more than a third of it. The similarity of sensations with the W890i presupposes not only pleasant coldness and thinness, but also lightness, which has a positive effect on carrying the phone in the breast pocket of a shirt, but the solid weight of 86 grams cannot be caught.
As we noted earlier, the front and back panels are divided in half into aluminum and plastic parts, with the metal taking up a large area. Here you can see two rows of small slots that provide the output of the sound of the spoken speaker, and a little to the right is located the light sensor, which adjusts the display backlight.
Below is the area of the glossy protective plastic of the screen, under which you can see a 2-inch QVGA-matrix with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. In terms of its characteristics, the screen is typical for the company's phones, so its description predictably coincides with what we saw in the W890i,. The picture on the screen has a slightly cold color gamut with a good level of brightness and contrast throughout the 18-bit colors, but the black color slightly fades into blue, which is most likely due to the use of scratch-resistant protective plastic.
In the sun, the screen is expected to fade by a third, but the sharpness remains at the usual level, so we can talk about the possibility of taking photos and viewing pictures without looking for a shadow.
A funny design point is the identity of the distance between the edge of the screen and the protective plastic, identical to the distance between the edge of the glossy insert and the edge of the aluminum cover on the front panel. Moreover, at the same distance from the edge of the metal part, the keyboard block begins, consisting of the usual protruding number keys with a soft stroke and a clear click, flavored with a quiet click. But this is where the similarities with the W890i keyboard end, and a kind of navigation block begins. In the center there is a rectangular navigation key with a smooth inner bevel and two dashes along the edges. In the center of the bevel there is a small protruding confirmation key, which also applies the description of a soft stroke of medium duration and a clear click with a quiet click. At a sufficient distance from the navigation key, there are two rocker keys deeply concave to the center, which combine the soft keys with the Activity Menu and C delete buttons. will seem even more ergonomic than some counterparts with twice the area. Closer to the edges of the case, glossy buttons for receiving and rejecting a call are inscribed in the paired keys made of transparent plastic with unstable silver paint. Moreover, the latter also plays the function of turning on / off the phone. These buttons have a springy motion rather than just a soft one, and a clear, silent click makes receiving an incoming call quite a pleasant experience.
The last thing worth noting in the keyboard unit concerns the soft white backlighting with a bias towards light green, which is caused by the color of the key membrane. In addition, a microphone hole is located under the rim of the 0 and # keys, so it is better not to stand sideways to the wind on the street, otherwise the interlocutor will hear a lot of unpleasant nuances.
At the bottom we see something that suggests an analogy with the iPod Mini and Nokia 6500C, and on the top we can rather distinguish the phone of the Finnish manufacturer, only with a slightly protruding rim of the frame plastic.
The right end is no longer necessary to describe in unnecessary trifles, since there are two protruding volume control buttons, whose tiny size, indistinct pressing with a short stroke, as well as controversial tactility make the controls extremely uncomfortable. Fortunately, the title of an inconvenient button goes to this pair, since the glossy electronic shutter release button of the camera located in a comfortable place is pressed quite comfortably, and its clear click is felt even with gloves.
There are no keys on the left side, but there is a FastPort connector for a wired accessory, and a cover for a slot for an M2 memory card with a capacity of up to 32 GB is visible right next to it.
The rear surface of Sony Ericsson T700 seems to be similar in layout to some other models of the company's phones, although it won't be easy to pull out similar elements. It seems to be a familiar groove for threading the strap from below, an insert with the model name, and the screw caps are familiar. Above, in the metal cover of the battery compartment with glossy curves and textured plane, you can see holes for a 3.2 megapixel camera module and a mirror, a wide oval hole for a flash and a decorative mesh for a polyphonic speaker. And between them there is another small hole, through which a small LED shines through in red, notifying others that you are not just holding your phone parallel to their faces, but recording a video.
Along the ends of the case from above, you can easily find two sliders for fixing the metal cover of the battery compartment, pulling which the cover push up three soft pads, thanks to which you can not think about the backlash.
Almost a copy of the W890i with the same lithium-polymer battery BST-33, whose capacity is 950 mAh, is waiting for us under the cover, which is enough for 2 days of phone operation with 40 minutes of calls a day, 3 hours of listening to music through a bluetooth-headset DS200, as well as half an hour of using other features, be it games, the Internet, a camera.
Since the space is similar to a slim Walkman-monoblock, the installation of a SIM-card slightly protruding from the compartment will seem quite usual, although it is better not to dismantle it without handy tweezers, but rather nippers. Aesthetes can be perverted and cut out the risk in the card under the fingernail, but it is easier to refuse to buy this phone if the change of cards is brewing quite often.
User interface
Despite the hardware resemblance to the W890i, the hero of our today's review can see the updated version of the A200 user interface, first seen in the shockproof monoblock C702.
In standby mode, the corners of the top of the screen are the traditional five-level indicators of the signal strength and battery charge. Between them is a field for various system indicators, be it missed events, notification of Bluetooth activity or silent alert mode. The indicator of a running Java application was changed to an icon resembling the Activity Menu symbol.
Below the screen, the names of the operator and the active base station can be displayed, and at the bottom of the screen - the date, digital clock, and the countdown timer, if it is running. At the bottom of the screen, there are three shortcut key labels that cannot be reassigned. To call the functions you are interested in, you can use the deviations of the navigation key, to which you can assign the call of most functions, including Java midlets. If four labels quick launch not enough for you, you can use the shortcuts tab in the Activity Menu. In addition to bookmarks of shortcuts in the active menu, there are classic bookmarks of the favorite WEB-browser, missed events and running applications.
The main menu consists of 12 icons, which are not so easy to describe unambiguously. The updated version of the A200 provides the ability to quickly change the appearance of the menu, regardless of the selected skin. In addition to the classic representation in the form of a 3 x 4 matrix, there are two more icon options available, similar to the variations of flash themes in the company's A100-based phones. There is a carousel option with smooth horizontal scrolling of icons. The next display option looks more like a tribute to fashion, since there is more than little sense in displaying one large icon without animation on a large screen. The last version of the icons depends on the content of the existing theme. If a set of icons is also stitched in the theme, you can use it. The themes themselves can be switched from the same drop-down list of functions in the main menu.
In addition to the extensive possibilities of themes, the user can set background images in JPEG, BMP, GIF and SWF format.
Profiles are still limited to 7 add-ons, each of which can be modified in a number of ways:
- ringer volume

- key sound
- redirection
- White list
- method of answering an incoming call (with a separate key, or by pressing any, except for the end call).
You can change the name of 6 profiles, but the icons remain unchanged.
Phone book
The organization of work with the phone book is simple, but not devoid of many popular features. Synchronization of VCF-profiles is supported, or their transfer via Bluetooth, copying of the database from the SIM-card or vice versa. The view list on the screen displays 6 entries at a time, and the selected contact can be viewed with phone numbers. In the event that several numbers are correlated with the record, you can switch between them due to simple horizontal deviations. Unfortunately, the usual selection of several records only allows you to add subscribers to the mailing list of the message, and deleting and moving is possible only when using the corresponding functions. In total, the phonebook memory is designed for 1000 entries and 7000 numbers in total.
Accordingly, in addition to 7 phone numbers, each subscriber can add:

- and the country where the place of work is located.

Call lists do not differ in functionality, depending on the launch from the main menu, or by pressing the call button in the standby mode. There are four horizontal tabs with calls sorted by incoming, outgoing, missed and mixed. Each section holds up to 30 entries, while for each subscriber there can be only one entry.
Posts
There is a good tool for creating SMS / EMS messages. As before, it is possible to display emoticons in the form of pictures. The size limit for the created message is 594 characters in Cyrillic and 1188 characters in Latin.
The MMS service has not undergone any changes either. It is an eye-catching interface for complex messaging, up to 300 Kb in size. You can add both existing audio, photo, video materials, and directly launch tools for their creation (camera, voice recorder).
Customer Email allows you to set up an account in five steps.
First, fill in your account name and email address. Then enter your username and password, after which the phone will offer to get the rest of the settings from the Sony Ericsson.com/support server. If there is no Internet access, the other two steps will consist of choosing the type of connection (POP3, IMAP4) and entering the servers of incoming and outgoing mail.
Of the changes in the interface, we can only note the changed background of the window for reading / writing a message.
Regarding the Cyrillic alphabet, the correct display of most messages received by the author can be noted in the headers. All attachments can be saved to the phone memory - this is a definite plus.
Organizer
The phone has five alarms, in each of which you can indicate the active days of the week, set the call time, melody, or radio frequency, if the activation of the FM receiver with sound output to the polyphonic speaker of the phone will be used as a signal.
Calendar
There are two types of display: month, or table of the week, with an hourly schedule for each day. Hovering over the desired day of the week, you can quickly create a reminder. Reminders also shine with a wide degree of customization. You can set an arbitrary name, start time, duration, notification in 5-30 minutes. before the start, set the specifics of the recurring reminder (daily, weekly, monthly, annually), as well as add information about the location of the event. For dessert, it is possible to add a small description of the event. As you can see, reminders, if not perfect, are as close to those as possible, given that this is not a separate organizer, but one of the functions of a mobile phone.
Notes
Plain text notes. Each can be up to 254 characters long.
Timer
Ordinary timer. Set the time to the nearest second and enjoy the report in standby mode.
Stopwatch allows you to create up to 9 intermediate values.
Calculator allows you to perform only the simplest arithmetic operations.
Code memo interesting only by the presence as such. Otherwise, the four-digit password most eloquently indicates the severity of these closed notes.
Multimedia menu
The multimedia menu has undergone almost no changes in comparison with its predecessors based on the first variation of the A200. The settings section includes only screen orientation settings.
Video
The section for viewing videos includes the simplest sorting tool and the player itself, which does not support files with a resolution higher than 320 x 240 pixels. There is a freeze-frame function with saving in Jpeg format, and fans of watching movies will like the automatic continuation of watching the clip of the last moment, at which the playback was interrupted the previous time.
Photo
Viewing photos is equipped with pleasant flipping effects, and at the same time the ability to quickly add favorites to the album. The images in the album are broken down by month, and the entire list of photos is displayed on the screen at once. During viewing, you can quickly call the image editor or use the automatic correction of color levels Photo Fix.
The slide presentation of X-Pict Story images has not gone anywhere, although its capabilities have not changed. Unlike smartphones G700, G900, you do not have a choice of soundtrack melodies, so you will have to limit yourself to moods alone.
Games
Considering the upcoming A300 with ample opportunities for creating high-quality games, the games section has already been brought to the multimedia menu. From here, you can conveniently call running applications, or quickly terminate them and move on to others.
Streaming news feeds were brought to the title section of the multimedia menu, filling them with a full range of settings. The section contains links to downloaded or pre-installed links of network aggregators.
Music
The third edition music player is not a Walkman solution, which means that sorting sections are represented by artists, albums, all songs, playlists, and podcasts. While browsing the library, you can transfer the highlighted song via MMS, E-Mail, Bluetooth, or add to the current list.
The playback window consists of a narrow progress line across the entire width of the window, above which there is a small Album Art window, icons for playback modes and the current position of the track in the playlist. The information bar at the top has not gone anywhere, where indicators of signal strength, battery charge, other notifications and time are displayed.
Under the line, the elapsed and remaining playing time of the track, information from the ID3 tag, and the designations of actions on the navigation key are displayed. Interestingly, the key itself has the same markings. Pressing up or down brings up the current playlist, overshadowing half of the active play window. When the orientation is changed to landscape, the navigation key designation floats to the right edge of the scroll bar.
In the player's settings, you can turn on / off the random play mode, and at the same time repeat the current song / list.
Equalizer in the phone is five-band, with one user preset and classic Mega Bass.
The quality of music playback is completely identical to that of the overwhelming majority of other phones from the company based on the A200. Optimal results can be achieved by using wireless headset, while the wired solution practically leaves no headroom in terms of volume, differing even in less dynamics than the Bluetooth headset DS970 and DS200.
The phone also has an FM receiver that supports automatic search stations and output RDS information. Each of the active stations can be stored in one of 20 memory locations.
The Track ID music recognition service has also undergone minor improvements, which has added tabs for storing recognized song profiles.
Communications
The phone has a Bluetooth 2.0 module wireless with support for EDR and most of the profiles accompanying the standard. To be precise, there are profiles available:

Voice recorder
The possibilities of Java - MIDlets are by no means limitless, which means that the scope of access of any utility in the application section clearly does not reach the full-featured analogue of standard functions. As a result, it seems that the T700 is equipped with an additional dictaphone, but it is also not able to help the user in recording conversations, because the MIDP 2.0's powers are clearly not enough to work with the phone's voice communication. And the output is only sound recording in AMR format, which is also available in the standard organizer utility.
Camera
The phone has a 3 megapixel camera module without autofocus optics and other interesting features. Moreover, the interface for working with the camera, as follows from the location of the module, is made with a portrait orientation of the viewfinder, which occupies about half of the screen. At the top of the screen are the standard indicators for digital zoom and brightness settings. Slightly below is a window for switching between photo / video modes, next to which you can see the icon of the current save location and the set photo / video format.
The options menu concentrates all the available camera settings, whether it is choosing the resolution and compression quality, setting the white balance and color effects, choosing the shooting mode, activating the shutter release by timer, adding the coordinates of the phone's location to the metadata of the picture, as well as choosing one of four shutter sounds shutter, with the ability to disable it.
As you can see from the following sample shots, the quality of the photo is quite enough for shooting simple scenes without any claims to quality. The pictures look good on the phone screen, but on the PC you can quite comfortably view only those photos that were taken in sunny weather with optimal illumination of objects.
 The phone also supports video recording at 320 x 240 pixels at 15 frames per second. The situation with videos completely coincides with photographs, so it is better to watch them directly on the phone or on a PC, avoiding scaling. As for their examples, here you can suggest to look into the review of the G502, W890i, or another Sony Ericsson product outside the line Cyber Shot. Like a phone The Sony Ericsson T700 does not give rise to any complaints about the connection quality, providing exactly the same signal reception as the majority of other phones from the company. As for the conversational dynamics, everything is not so rosy here, although the voice transmission quality is quite comfortable and devoid of significant overloads. Only the volume suffers, which is maximum comfortable for a room and a calm street environment, but in the subway it is better to limit yourself to text messages. As for the playback of melodies, here the polyphonic speaker always connects to the work and the spoken one, thanks to which it is difficult to overlap both of them, and alone they are already hard to hear. Together they form a squeaky symphony with overloads of everything below 300 Hz, and the sound volume is below average, even if it does not pretend to be the laurels of the quietest speaker. The vibration motor performs better than the speakers, providing sufficient vibration intensity for a pocket of jeans and trousers, but in the outer pockets of a jacket it will be difficult to feel its presence, albeit feasible. conclusions On the way to expanding the product line with minimal cost on the development of hardware chassis, Sony Ericsson still faced a dead-end development branch, when there is only a chassis for the continuation of a model in one line, and it is used to continue several products, and one of them simultaneously loses its main feature. At the end of 2007, a well-assembled monoblock with a steel body T650i entered the market, in which many could find a good fashion product with an interesting design, good build quality, and at the same time a good camera with autofocus. Compared to the musical W880i, the hardware superiority of the T650i was beyond doubt, whereas today we are being offered the T700, which has at least a minimum of its predecessor. But the similarity with the W890i can not be disputed, since everything coincides, and what is different is performed worse in the T700, but the price of the solution is also lower. It turns out that we are offered just a thin candy bar with aluminum panels for 8,000 rubles, which is noticeably less than the price tag for a music clone, although the differences, again, are minimal. Are you confused yet, is this product good or not? But doubts and arguments in favor of buying may turn out to be approximately equal, but only if you do not have and did not have a T650i, since otherwise the product is drawn only to a simplified version. If the W890i suits everything except the price, it is definitely worth paying attention to the T700. Fortunately, this is one of the most inexpensive slim solutions for Sony Ericsson fans with the A200 interface, in which everything is implemented quite well. And to top it all off, this is a corny light phone that easily takes up space in the breast pocket of a shirt, reminding of itself only during a call. It is worth it, and whether such a phone is needed for calls is up to you, and we just have to wait for the steel candy bar to replace the T650i.

Introduction
Sony Ericsson positions the model as the heir to the legendary Sony models Ericsson T610. Last year, the 610 already had some kind of reincarnation in the face of the T650 mobile phone, while the current model is a kind of continuation of the latter. Honestly, it's hard to agree with the manufacturer about the T700, nevertheless the new device does not support the T610, it lacks any special functionality or such a strong fashion charge as its well-known ancestor. And the current device differs greatly from the predecessor model T650. I must say right away that the Sony Ericsson T700 itself is not that bad, but if we only consider it separately, without looking back, which we will do in this review.
Appearance, dimensions, controls
The device is made in monoblock form-factor, its dimensions are small (104x48x10 mm, weight 78 grams), comparable to those of the Sony Ericsson W880 (103x46x9 mm, weight 71 grams), the latter is only slightly narrower, thinner and slightly lighter than the T700. The device is absolutely free to fit both in a jeans pocket and in a shirt pocket, and it does not cause any discomfort during transportation. The phone lies well in the hand, the smoothed sides of the case make it immediately comfortable to take it in the hand. Despite its small size, the phone is quite convenient to use not only for people with small, but also with rather large hands. The phone does not sink in a large man's hand, at the same time it does not look large in a small woman's hand.
The model can be considered a unisex solution, it looks harmonious both in the hands of men and in the hands of women. The design of the device is calm, without particularly catchy design solutions, but at the same time it is not devoid of its own charisma. The appearance of the phone can easily be guessed that it belongs to Sony Ericsson devices.
The materials used in the phone case are quite standard for this class of devices and are a combination of plastic and metal. There is not much of the latter in the phone, namely, only the battery compartment cover and the frame around the screen are made of metal. It was interesting to select the texture for the metal elements, it is covered with very small grooves and to the touch is very similar to the surface of vinyl records. In general, due to such a texture, it is not immediately clear that there are metal parts in the body of the device, but there is nothing wrong with that. The surface of the parts made of plastic is smooth to the touch, not soiled at all, it is quite resistant to the appearance of scuffs and scratches on it, which cannot be said about the coating of the navigation unit keys, which gradually peel off over time, exposing the bare plastic. At least the problem with the coverage of these keys appeared on our sample after a week of talking with the phone, although, of course, it is quite possible that this is a feature of a single sample. If any of the T700 users also have problems with coverage, please write to us about this and, if possible, attach photos of problem areas. There are no problems with the build quality of the device, all the parts are fitted close to each other, nothing creaks or plays, in general, a solid build.
It's nice that the manufacturer took care of the customers, presenting the T700 in 7 body colors: Black on Silver, Black on Red, Shining Silver, Shining black, Gold on Red, Shining Gold and Shining Pink. Three color solutions from this set are monochromatic, these are black, silver and pink, the rest of the options are two-tone, in which the colors divide the body in half, the upper part is one color, the lower part is the second. In my opinion, the device looks more original and attractive in the two-color solution, this does not allow the model to get lost among its own kind, so to speak, not to lose its face. Although, of course, the color scheme of the phone is a personal preference of each user, fortunately, in the case of the T700, there is a choice, and what kind of choice.
On the left side surface of the device in the upper part there is one of the two latches of the battery compartment cover. Here, just at the bottom, there is a Fast Port interface connector, and under it there is a slot for M2 memory cards, which is covered with a rubber flap fixed to the case. The interface connector and memory card slot do not interfere with each other during operation, so there are no problems here. The only thing I didn’t like was the slot cover, it doesn’t look very presentable, perhaps in other colors it’s not so noticeable, but in our case it’s not strong, but still striking.

Battery
The device has a 950 mAh lithium-polymer battery. According to the manufacturer, the phone can work with it up to 9.5 hours of talk time and up to 370 hours of standby time.
