Rocket m2 as a router. Revolutionary filtration technology

When there is a need for an extremely remote and stable link, Ubiquiti Rocket M2 will cope with this task perfectly. After all, our own software developments and excellent compatibility with other Ubiquiti equipment will allow you to get the most out of such a network.

Rocket M2 runs under the proprietary AirOS 5th edition and contains good hardware:

  • CPU Atheros MIPS 24KC with a frequency of 400MHz.
  • 32MB DDR SDRAM and 8MB flash on NAND chip.
  • 10/100 Ethernet port, which also powers the device over twisted pair (if your server does not support PoE or does not provide the necessary 24V and 1A, power is supplied through the power supply and adapter).
  • USB 2.0.
  • Transmitter with a power of 28dBm, operating in the range 2412-2462 MHz.
  • Throughput due to 802.11b/g/n standards and multiplexing MIMO 2x2, is 300 Mbit/s.

Among the features of the Ubiquiti Rocket M2, it is worth highlighting support for the proprietary TDMA AirMax technology, for prioritizing traffic and intelligently distributing queues to avoid collisions.

Antennas for Rocket M2

The Ubiquiti Rocket M2 has 2 isolated antennas RP-SMA output, however, the antennas themselves are not supplied - the choice is yours. The range of recommended antennas is quite wide. Rocket M2 has excellent hardware compatibility with the AirMax series and parabolic RocketDish, thereby providing a stable link up to 50 km. (for ideal conditions the stated speed is about 100-150 Mbit/s), which makes the device one of the best and inexpensive options for network bridges.

As a base station with AirMax Sector or omnidirectional AirMax Omni, and similar Rocket or Nanostation as client equipment, the model also performs excellently.

AP is perfectly adapted to outdoor conditions and is protected from any potential dangers:

  • humidity up to 95% with condensation formation;
  • static voltage up to 10kV;
  • solar UV radiation;
  • temperatures from -30°C to +75°C.

The Ubiquiti Rocket M2 also features LED power and signal strength indicators for easy targeting of the receiver. The mount is adapted for an antenna, but the kit includes a clamp for attaching to a mast.

WITH software it's convenient and easy to work with, so basic setup network, after installing the AP, it’s a matter of a few minutes, and even an unprepared person can handle it.

Using airMAX technology

Unlike the standard Wi-Fi protocol, Ubiquiti's airMAX TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) protocol allows each client to send and receive data using preset time intervals regulated by the access point's intelligent controller.

This "time slot" method reduces latent node conflicts and increases airtime efficiency, thus airMAX technology, compared to all other outdoor systems in its class, provides significant improvements in throughput, scalability and noise immunity, and reduces latency.

  • Intelligent QoS. Priority is given to continuous voice and video streaming.
  • Scalability. Large capacity and scalability.
  • Long range. Allows carrier-grade high-speed connections.

GPS Synchronization

Rocket® Prism AC supports GPS Sync for faster and more scalable carrier-grade networks, up to 90% faster than competing solutions.

Superior Performance

Next-generation airMAX ac technology enhances the benefits of the proprietary TDMA protocol.

Ubiquiti's airMAX engine, along with a custom-designed chip, significantly improves TDMA network scalability and latency. A custom microcontroller provides the ability hardware acceleration airMAX scheduler, which allows you to support the high data rates and rich modulations used in airMAX ac technology.

Bandwidth Breakthrough

airMAX ac supports high data rates that require rich modulation: 256QAM - a significant increase over the 64QAM used in airMAX. Thanks to their use in proprietary airMAX ac technology, airMAX ac products support TCP/IP throughput of up to 450 Mbps, which is three times that of standard airMAX products.

airPrism

To improve the performance of airMAX ac, Ubiquiti Networks introduces patent-pending airPrism technology found in the Rocket ac R5AC-PTP and R5AC-PTMP models.

Improved SNR (Signal‑to‑Noise Ratio)

High data rates require high SNR, which is most desirable to achieve especially in noisy, highly saturated environments.

Built into a custom Ubiquiti microcontroller, airPrism technology creates high SNR by isolating signals outside the operational channels and suppressing interference using specialized HSR (High‑Selectivity Receiver) circuitry.

Removing interference

Depending on the product model and operating mode, available channel widths may include 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and/or 80 MHz.

Theoretically, access points operate at different frequencies, but due to the wider throughput channel, overlap in spectrum usage may occur.

airPrism technology additionally suppresses up to 30 dB of adjacent channel interference through active filtering circuitry, so the airMAX ac access point with airPrism technology can provide significantly better performance than a conventional access point.

Ensuring co-location of access points

Co-location is very important in many scenarios. For example, a wireless Internet provider is limited by space on a mast and must co-locate all access points within a designated area. Shielding and other measures will help reduce interference, but may not be helpful.

Review
About the brand

The American company MSR was founded by an outstanding test engineer who was passionate about mountaineering. So the whole history of MSR is connected with an attempt to improve equipment intended for climbing. MSR's first mainstream product was the Thunderbird ice axe, but the brand's true popularity came from MSR gas stoves and tents. The MSR Hubba series of tents became an almost instant best seller. Its peculiarity was the combination of all segments of the tent frame into a single part using metal connecting nodes. The popularity of MSR Hubba tents was due to their low weight, well-chosen materials and multiple installation options.

(Review from Yandex Market) Advantages: All-weather, MIMO 300Mbit/sec, 620mW AirOS (frequency shift and many goodies) Disadvantages: No, it’s perfect. Comment: I took it with a base station. The clients have two NanoBridge M2 pumping speeds of real 70 Mbit/sec for 1.2 km! The computer just didn't show up anymore. But it will be under 90Mbit/Sec. With a channel width of 10 MHz it produces an honest 30 Mbit! The channel can be shifted greatly. Go 100 MHz lower. List of supported frequencies: 2312,2317,2322,2327,2332,2337,2342,2347, 2352,2357,2362,2367,2372,2377,2382,2387, 2392,2397,2407,2412,2417,242222, 2427, 2432,2437,2442,2447,2452,2457,2462,2467, 2472,2477,2482,2487,2492,2497,2502,2507, ,2547, 2552,2557,2562,2567,2572,2577,2582,2587, 2592,2597,2602,2607,2612,2617,2622,2627, 2672, 2677,2682,2687,2692,2697,2702,2707, 2712,2717,2722,2727,2732 +you can shift them by +2MHz +you can set the channel width to: 3, 5, 8, 10, 20, 25, 30 , 40MHz! + AirOS - a lot of all sorts of goodies. Full-fledged SSH, Telnet, etc. I saved on the antenna and bought a Russian one for 1200 rubles. Directional - 14dB, 25 degrees. It’s definitely better than TP-Link’s 5210G, but it’s also 2-3 times more expensive. You shouldn’t skimp on quality and such features.
