The body has also been enlarged, but so slightly that it can hardly be seen by the eye. Now the dimensions are 40 × 34 × 10.7 / 44 × 38 × 10.7 mm. At the same time, the weight decreased, its values are 30.1 / 36.7. The last fact suggests that the developers have worked hard in search of a “dimensional” compromise.
The same can be said about the thickness and resolution of the screen. The watch has become thinner (from 11.4 mm to 10.7 mm), and in the older model with a screen resolution of 368 × 448 pixels, the number of dots per inch has increased to 326 dpi (last year’s model had 304 dpi). And this is with such a diagonal!
Now about the hardware. Almost everything has been improved. Apple processor S3 was replaced by AppleS4 (it is not yet clear how much performance has increased), the accelerometer, gyroscope and even the communication chip have been updated. According to the company, the AppleW3 mobile module will finally be able to provide normal telephone communication through the clock (let me remind you that this function is still not available in Russia). And finally, the watch has a Bluetooth module latest version 5.0.
Apple has long relied on improving the sensor heart rate, and the new Apple Watch is following the same course. The gadget can now create an ECG (!) of the user - just put your finger on the wheel Digital Crown for 30 seconds. How accurate these results are is unknown, but the feature has been approved in the United States. Alas, it’s only there for now. The sensor on the back of the case has also been updated, and now the watch will proactively detect heart disease in the wearer.
Another innovation is that the gadget recognizes the user’s fall. If after this the latter does not move for a minute, the watch will automatically call the rescue service. Need I say how indispensable this new product will be for older people?
Other elements have also been changed: the wheel received a new tactile response mechanism, the back panel is now made of ceramic or sapphire glass, the electric speaker has gained an increase in volume, and new desktops have been added to the watch software. watchOS 5, of course, has also been announced - it will become available for Apple watches of all generations. And finally, just as it was with the first version of the Apple Watch, now buyers will be able to choose between an aluminum and steel case - unfortunately, so far only in the States.
And I almost forgot: of course, the new product is compatible with all Apple Watch straps ever released. Well, how could it be otherwise?
New iPhone models
The hottest event of yesterday evening was the release of new iPhone versions, of which three were presented. As expected, the number nine was safely missed (hello, Microsoft), and therefore it is now even easier to get confused about the names of new products (and their differences) than before. For clarity, I will briefly and clearly describe the models in three paragraphs, one by one. And then what is common to all three new products.
The main model, the iPhone Xs (read as “ten es”), is an update to last year’s “ten.” Externally, and in many other ways, the new product is identical to the latter. The changes affected the maximum storage capacity (up to 512 GB), a new microchip with an improved processor and the degree of water protection (IP68 versus the previous IP67). The new iPhone can swim in water, wine or beer, as Cook said, and can stay in liquid for up to 30 minutes (at a depth of 2 meters). The screen diagonal of 5.8 inches was retained, but the weight increased to 177 g (previously 174).
Another version of the flagship is the iPhone Xs Max with a large display. The 6.5-inch diagonal sets a record for all existing iPhones, as does the resolution of 2688 × 1242 at 458 dpi. The dimensions, accordingly, are also larger here - 157 × 77 × 7.7 mm, and the weight of the Max is 208 g. By the way, thanks to the “frameless” screen and the new aspect ratio of the screen, the large Xs does not look so huge and, in principle, comparable to last year's iPhone 8 Plus.
And finally, the star of last night is the semi-budget iPhone Xr (pronounced “ten ar”). Almost all reviewers and journalists agreed that this new product looks more attractive than older models, and it comes in interesting colors. The screen here looks a little less “frameless” than its counterparts, but has a diagonal of 6.1 inches. Resolution - 1792 × 828 pixels, dots per inch - 326 dpi. The smartphone weighs 194 g and has dimensions of 151 × 76 × 8.3 mm. It only has one camera, but everything else, including the processor, is identical to the flagship stuffing. But the water protection here is the same as last year's flagship- IP67.
So, what's interesting about these three? The most revolutionary thing is support for two SIM cards. Alas, again not for Russia. Two physical SIM cards will only work in China, and in other countries the place of the second slot will be taken by a virtual copy of the SIM card - in our country this function is still prohibited (that’s why we can’t make calls through the Apple Watch).
Next, the camera. It is identical for all three models and has not changed much compared to last year's releases. However, powerful processor will now be able to process an incredible amount of data, which the company says (and has demonstrated) makes it super-fast in selecting the best shot from a series of automatically captured footage.
The Cupertino team also promised increased battery life - how long the new products will be able to work is still unclear.

And among other things, there was only room... for the updated HomePod speaker. Now it can be combined with other similar devices, and, more interestingly, used as a telephone headset.
Neither new iPads, Apple did not present either the updated AirPods or the long-awaited promised wireless charging yesterday. Needless to say, this was a disappointment for the fans, but let’s be objective - in the main, the Cupertino team did a great job.
